Enbl and bcl are not the same level? One is FIBA ran the other is not. Also if Gladiators dont qualify they drop into Europe Cup. Where I think they'll play 6 games 3 home/3 away. Enbl doesn't matter where you place in your league you can apply to join. BCL you need to qualify for and meet different stipulations (arena size alone rules Flyers out) within your league. But I thought the Euro Cup was higher then the BCL? And also if they ran separately how come Glads will drop into the Euro Cup if they lose. And also why didn't that happen to Riders last season when they didn't qualify?

You may also see fans of the other teams turning up. Most countries are way more into basketball than the uk, so if one of their home nation teams is playing here they'll turn out in droves, but wouldn't normally go to watch BBL. I remember a weeknight in Brighton when 700 rampant Lithuanians turned up when Rytas came to play the Bears. What an incredible atmosphere it was too! Can't think of many other teams fan travelling to watch these games. It's rare that BBL teams bring significant numbers to watch away teams play certainly the very regular faces for all teams will be there but don't see more than a handful (Giants apart). Distance also plays a part, certainly Glasgow and Newcastle aren't easily got to midweek.

Europe Cup is the 'drop in to' competition from Basketball Champions League. EuroCup is the competition Lions play in, which is affiliated with Euroleague but a step below. Someone might want to correct me, but I believe if you tiered the competitions it would look something like this: Tier 1 - Euroleague (no current UK team) Tier 2 - EuroCup (London Lions) and Basketball Champions League (Glads, if they qualify) Tier 3 - Europe Cup (Glads if they don't qualify for BCL) Tier 4 - European North Basketball League (Eagles and Flyers)

If you lose in the BCL qualifiers you drop into the Europe Cup not the EuroCup.

Having read the story about 777, maybe Riders are being far more wise than we thought

So the 700 or so I mentioned who turned up to Brighton v Rytas, I think was mostly Lithuanians already living in the area. I imagine Newcastle must be pretty cosmopolitan so depending who they get, expats from those countries might turn out in big numbers to see one of their local teams play here.

and "FIBA" govern the Basketball Champions League (BCL) and the Europe Cup.......
who governs the European North Basketball League (ENBL) ?

Looks like Gladiators have a likely short path to FIBA Europe Cup. To those claiming EuroCup is above BCL, why are so many teams competing to get into BCL that pre-qualifiers are needed? EuroCup is more similar to ENBL. Obviously EuroCup is a higher level but the concept is the same. A group of teams who want to play in a cross-border league, that only the teams in that league and their fans care about.

So they have to play a qualifier for a qualifier? Huh? Why not just call it round 1 of qualifying and then on to round 2?
Anyway they are playing the 17 times Swiss champions, suggesting they'll get squashed like a grape.

Quite funny to note that the Swiss team sent their Champions League application to the wrong email address so actually missed the original deadline, fortunately (for them) the CL has added this extra round in

Will they still drop into the other cup if they lose their qualifier to reach the qualifying found? Suspect that wasn't in their plans for European basketball.

If you were Gladiators you’d asked for immediate relegation to the Europe Cup. Spend a significant amount of money to play a pre qualifier and be the only team made to play additional games

Why are people writing off the Scottish team, I mean winning your national league loads doesn't necessarily translate to Continental success
Like, to use a footballing example, there are plenty minnow teams who dominate nationally but get thrashed in Europe
GB are ranked 48th in the FIBA Men's Rankings, Switzerland are 58th

Fribourg have a history of competing and regularly winning games in European competition. The Men’s Rankings are irrelevant as they are rating the ability of the national team, not the quality of the league. The BCL own league rankings have the Swiss higher by 5 placings.

the big investments keep on coming
on top of 2 WBBL signings, thats a mini exodus from Leicester to East Kilbride
rumours continue that as well as the upgrades in the BBL brit core there could be an import spot surprise that shows the intent of the franchise. Time will tell.
also very busy 'off court' getting the temp arena ready - guessing the first pictures of that will be out in August to whet the appetite for new season in September. Maybe its the use of the word temp - but think it passed a lot of folk by that the home court for 2023-24 - if as per the announcements - will be a slightly larger capacity that the wee hall at the emirates they have left behind.

Wow just when I thought the signings and moves this off season couldn't get anymore unpredictable I certainly wasn't expecting that. If I was a Leicester fan right now I'd probably be crying and laughing if he'd somehow came to us instead. Although from what I seen so far if someone was to suggest something crazy like Darius Defoe to end up at Plymouth Patriots I wouldn't rule it out.

It'll be interesting to see if they can improve on their crowds moving to the new place. There was plenty games I saw last season that were well off being full, I hope the new venue has a positive effect. I'm definitely planning on a visit when Eagles head up.
