Time will tell, but the Brits on Gladiators’ squad and I suspect Gareth will have chosen his (new to BBL) imports wisely.

Some of the views in here are absolute wack. Did people honestly think the gladiators would go for nba level talent? Weird people questioning the talent level of a squad with 2 Olympians, An mvp candidate 2 seasons ago, eagles most consistent player, a bbl all defence team, dpoy in macedonia and a strong returning core... Got to say I agree with this. That Gladiators team looks the next best after London on paper for me at the moment.

IMO Lions currently don’t look anything like as strong as they were last season without Zubcic, Hubran, Oni and Koufos.

I was expecting a BCL quality roster TBH the way the owner was talking. Not quite Lions level obviously but bringing in players who'd played consistently at that level before. Very high level BBL roster sure but absolutely nowhere near BCL standard and it'll probably be an achievement to even win a token game in FEC depending on how the draw pans out.

Unsure whether my opinion was one of the absolutely whack ones. I wasn't expecting a BCL level roster. I wasn't expecting ex NBA players. I wasn't expecting London Lions II. I was expecting more players with higher level European experience. There's plenty of middle ground in between what Lions are doing right now and what the rest of the BBL is doing.
Looks a pretty rough draw that to me. Last season's champions and one of only two ACB teams likely to be in the competition. Shouldn't imagine the Romanian side will be world beaters but hard to see Gladiators winning too many games there. A much tougher first round group to the one Lions had a few years ago in my estimation.

Ouch that’s a tough draw.
is it me or have the FIBA got a little carried away with themselves on the Europe Cup? It’s fourth tier European basketball and the inclusion of Spanish teams who’ve finished lower mid table is not really developing the concept it was introduced for

Why are people writing off the Scottish team, I mean winning your national league loads doesn't necessarily translate to Continental success Like, to use a footballing example, there are plenty minnow teams who dominate nationally but get thrashed in Europe GB are ranked 48th in the FIBA Men's Rankings, Switzerland are 58th Well this post was right

Well it was right for a quarter anyway Fribourg was a perfectly beatable opposition but victory today would really just have been delaying the inevitable anyway. A win or two against the Romanians seems about as good as Europe can possibly go for Gladiators this season, given the draw.

was surprised at his minutes (lack off) at points in last couple of leage games where the team was needing a spark and the lines tried were not doing it - I guess this explains it as better to try lines that will be here going forward. Jovicic has left the Gladiators. caledoniagladiators.com/mihailo-jovicic-departs/

He was decidedly average. I'm surprised he lasted this long given Glads ambitions.

I guess Glads will have had to pay up his contract as from documentary I picked up they seem to be handing out guaranteed contracts. I guess that’s why they tried to make it work for so long and I guess that’s why buttrick remains. I expect they will bring in an American point guard to replace as they should have done to begin with

What’s happened with Bunyan? Only recently realised he doesn’t seem to be involved anymore?

So much for Timoney saying 'we won't cut players, it's our fault if a player doesn't work out because we haven't done our homework'. Finding out the realities of basketball pretty fast.

What’s happened with Bunyan? Only recently realised he doesn’t seem to be involved anymore? he is still there and on the roster - just not selected to be kitted up and on court so far. Have seen him around the bench supporting the squad on a couple of the broadcasts. He has a new job at the club - he is the basketball development officer, so that suspect is his main role now. I assume that includes the community program sessions they have put in place - but I know it also includes sorting tournament days at U12b and U13g as our club is part of that.

If that's really what he said, and that's really what he meant, then what a naïve thing to say. However if he meant they won't leave any players high and dry, and will pay them for a full season even if it's not working out (perhaps, because they haven't done their homework), then that's quite honourable.

Mike Bothwell to replace Jovicic by the looks of it.

Mike Bothwell to replace Jovicic by the looks of it. Seems like an improvement on Jovicic.

I see the owner got richer by £51m, was on Page 14 of yesterday's Daily Record, no mention of the Gladiators though
