Does the bigger picture involve yet more roster changes and making Phoenix, without their best player, look like the Harlem Globetrotters?

If you mean French, he’s on court now beefing up the defence!

I’ll take a +18 defender in an 8 point loss even if an IRF lol comes with it !

Eagles fans have got to take whatever crumbs we can, and French’s performance straight off a plane gives us just a glimmer of hope !

As a long-time lurker both on here and whatsbev (though i did occasionally post on there) I note that this thread has gone in a predictable direction; IRF telling us that Eagles are doomed which will then be followed up by a series of long replies anyone daring to even slightly dissent. I watched other people try to disagree with him and saw them simply worn down. So this will probably be my only post on the matter. As an Eagles fan we were utterly spoilt by the Fab years, and Dave F played a signficant part in that both in recruiting and on a game day. Losing both in the space of a year was bound to have an effect. I think it's a shame that nothing could be done to keep Dave involved with the BBL team. I've never really been part of the love-fest for Steutal, I'm not sure he's done anything to justify the big job with either Eagles or GB (if he really is their coach - it's unclear), He doesnt really show the ability to change things or recruit properly with Eagles and the buck stops with him. I do think the two appointments after Fab left have been a bit lazy but after the way Paul Blake has built this franchise from being a bit of a laughing stock in the BBL, I'll give him a pass. I think an immediate change in coach - even if it writes off this season - would be a step in the right direction, although it's absolutely crucial Paul gets it right this time. Completely agree with your view on Steutel, its not surprising that a coach straight of NBL D3 (essentially local league) is struggling in the BBL. Never wanted him and don't think he'll be successful. However, I really can't see him being sacked this season or even in the summer. This farce at the moment can't just be for nothing. The losing I can deal with, the manner of it I really can't. The revolving door is dragging our club's reputation through the mud, if this isn't for some greater good what's the point? On another note, the new signing did OK. I'm just glad I don't have to see Shelton fumble another pass in the lane or miss another chippy under the basket.

If Steutel recruited the team then hes got to take some responsibility but then again that's literally the first time he will have recruited a squad at this level What do you expect? I said when they appointed Steutel I was glad as I was worried they would appoint Newby Who actually has good experience of recruiting squads and getting them to play I can't see how its going to improve this season tbh Don't think the owner nor Steutel will have any answers Some tough games coming up as well for Eagles

Is there anyone in this thread who thinks Eagles are making any progress? Have I missed people suggesting they are and disagreeing with me? I think yours is a good post Be surprised if you get shut of Steutel at this stage though And would feel sorry for anyone coming in to have to work with this squad at this stage But then again just getting the odd victory every so often from them could be considered a success at this stage

I didn't expect much to be honest, but I didn't think they would be this bad.
I thought Newby was a no brainer to be honest, and was gutted we didn't go for him. He did a tremendous job at Worcester and would've kicked on even more here, I'm convinced of it.
There's not much i can really do though, other than just support what we have and hope we can put this season down to growing pains for an inexperienced coach. I realise that may seem like wishful thinking to some, but it's where we are unfortunately.

Apparently French is from Raptors G League so perhaps Fab is helping with Eagles recruitment???

Knowing that Fab is so involved in US basketball you would think that should actually give Eagles an advantage when it comes to player recruitment?

Knowing that Fab is so involved in US basketball you would think that should actually give Eagles an advantage when it comes to player recruitment? Yes and no, I guess. He's operating in a different stratosphere realistically, so other than G League rejects (such as our new signing! I'm not sure how helpful he can be. He's not exactly gonna be watching a load of college ball thats relevant to our level, but I'm sure he'll help where he can. He spent some time over here in the summer working out academy players, which I'm sure was great for those lads. Also lovely to see him back here. He's obviously revered up here for what he achieved but he was such a lovely presence around the club as well. Always had time for anyone, he's a big miss in so many ways.

The best G League rejects combined into one squad would be more than good enough to challenge at the top of BBL wouldn't they? Working with players rather than just watching them has to be a huge advantage? You would think would help make Eagles recruitment lesson risky than the rest? All other things being equal?
