Lions will be the team every other team wants to beat Riders and Rob will no doubt relish being under dogs once more Let's hope Lions don't make Rob an offer he can't refuse to be assistant coach Whilst he's still at Riders I fancy our chances of upsetting the apple cart for lions every now and then Can't see him accepting second lieutenant to anyone in the BBL!

This place is more depressing than Whatsbev was Bring back Hersey and DTB to save us from all this doom and gloom Whats depressing? Im made up its happening but this whole lions thing aint gonna last long - weve seen it before! Its just realism here, once bitten twice shy... Also I made one comment on WB the other day and Hersey told me im judged by the company I keep. Im just so tired of it haha That’s fine but there’s about 15 regular posters here and I’ve read about 50 variations of ‘it ain’t gonna last’ or ‘how can they afford x’ over the last couple of weeks I think everyone has had there say already I just think maybe we can go steady on the doommongering now I’m not blaming you at all btw because at least you’ve dropped a bit of info with your pessimism

Well I for one am very excited and positive about this season. I don't support any particular BBL team. I am a fan of London Lions in Europe so how things are turning out are far beyond my highest hopes.

There's a difference between doom and gloom and the soap opera from the old Whatbev forum. I have no issues with this as it is on topic and basketball related.
Let's be honest London Lions will they or won't they be successful is one of the main topics of the Summer especially after the salary cap has been lifted.
To me I would say with everything that's happened for both Lions and the Leagues there are scenarios predicted for what can happen if it goes right and wrong.
I think we can all agree whilst we hope it does go right for the league it is a huge gamble and a lot of money to being chucked around which history has shown is a recipe that has sunk alot of teams once the finances, poor leadership/decision making and circumstances have gone south.
Birmingham Knights, London City Royals, Plymouth Raiders, Worcester Wolves, Mersey Tigers, Leeds Force and Durham Wildcats are all franchises I have watches fold during my time following the league cause one of or all 3 of those points.
With how crazy the London Lions project is then you can't blame people for questioning whether or not it will be a success or not?
Although given how much they spent and what they pulled off so far. If they were to announce their pre season friendly being against the Golden State Warriors it wouldn't surprise me in the slightest.

I mean even you casualhook, have made a couple of reasonably negative posts about it! And I think you'll find it's the same at Bev. I think the general consensus is, we're in for some high quality basketball and they should be competitive in Europe, but the financials just don't seem to be realistic. It's like on dragons Den, a pitch starting off well but when they drill down into the detail I think they'd probably say "I'm out". So I think as basketball viewers, great. As basketball fans, looking at the bigger picture? Right to express concerns.

But as a viewer I am very excited.

I was joking about Whatsbev, this place is still absolutely miles better than that place ever was while I was there Was just joking about that bit at least, I very much appreciate having this place still

If it works the entire game here benefits. My problem is that I've been in and around something similar albeit on a smaller scale at Everton (their 300k playing budget was huge at the time) - the returns simply arent there based on winning alone. They need to fill that copper box with paying customers weekly and get major sponsors in and actually offer returns/benefits for them over and above their name on an A board here and there. Can it work on the scale theyre attempting? Maybe, but there HAS to be more than just paying the best talent to play for them. But ay, whilst theyre doing it Im damn sure going to enjoy watching the team!

On the subject of Koufos by the way, check his twitter out. Hes not showing signs of coming here for an easy pay day - putting in the hard graft. Love that professionalism.

The interesting thing about this 777 investment and London is that they also own half of the BBL now? So it's obviously in their interest that the BBL does well as does the Lions. If their funding of the Lions forces other teams to beyond their means and potentially bankrupt that. That doesn't seem like good investing?
