I definitely have concerns having seen what overspending did for the Bears when they were in ULEB. And probably their bill was nowhere near this one.

Ive just been given details of Tariks contract. If Lions are still around in 5 years spending like this then I'm a monkeys uncle. Id actually be surprised if it lasts another season truth be told. I will give them 3 years A very expensive 3 years!! But like Bigz says we may as well all enjoy the ride whilst it lasts

Looking forward to seeing you at the Phoenix for that one then, I'd make the first of the games just in case the wheels come off at Christmas! Interesting that a number of people are looking forward to see Lions play at an away venue but how many are getting home season tickets?

So if the owners can only cover 65% of expenses and their wage bill is say £2.5 million, they still need to find £875,000 on wages alone. They're going to need the mother and father of all sponsors.

they just need paying customers and can cover the £875k just like that
what they going to have - 30 odd home games between eurocup and bbl? achieve an av ticket price of £15 and an av crowd of 2000 and you are already at £900k
decent marketing and promotions manager, lots of folk paying top ticket price for courtside - surely they would even manage to make those numbers look conservative estimates? well if they are serious about this, I am sure they will be looking at better numbers than those as their targets.

Then give us some insight? So we know how long to expect the team to last for I’m not going into figures as I don’t think it’s my place to do so in all truth, but most players won’t take home a season what he’s taking a month. And he isn’t the best paid on that squad by a distance.

I wasn't too worried about losing the salary cap initially as I am all for the level of players and competition in BBL increasing as high as it can reach
However, every top level British or BBL import player will now be playing from with one eye on getting an offer to go and play for Lions
It's clearly as good or better than most European opportunities it appears
Players talk. Everybody in the game will know what Lions are paying

This could be the most damaging thing for decades for British Basketball.
Imagine a player at say Newcastle knowing he is playing against someone earning x10 or whatever.
Lions shouldn’t lise a domestic game again for years. Where’s the fun in that for anyone?
Just waiting for some overpaid American to kiss the badge (before jetting back ASAP)

Well from what I hear some players salaries are more than the entire budget for some clubs. But it's still 5v5. Chemistry and coaching are factors. As long as other clubs don't try and throw cash at it things will be ok. Leicester and Newcastle were dominant for years, Kingston used to rule the roost, Solent Stars, Crystal Palace...London's turn for however long this lasts. What happens after the money stops? No development program I can see.

I'm no numbers man but how many times did Lions have 2000 + full paying crowd? Agree the European games could attract more midweek but how many will rush back to pay £50 or more to watch a BBL game three or four days later and watch a 30+ game blowout? And that's after they've paid their energy bill ( sadly I'm sure that factor will affect all BBL clubs).

Lions will be the team every other team wants to beat
Riders and Rob will no doubt relish being under dogs once more
Let's hope Lions don't make Rob an offer he can't refuse to be assistant coach
Whilst he's still at Riders I fancy our chances of upsetting the apple cart for lions every now and then

Last time I checked they were still delivering the kind of inane drivel that drove most people away but that's the beauty of it, everyone can choose what content they want to consume.

Maybe you should leave if you think this is depressing. Seems like a sensible balanced discussion to me.
