I'm not against withdrawing the salary cap at all Just really interested to understand what the actual plan is long term They can't really be that bothered about winning BBL Trophies ? The plan seems pretty straightforward to me, and it was laid out pretty simply on the BBL Show podcast, By competing in Europe it gains credibility for the BBL, it gives players coming to the other teams a chance to put playing against a euro cup team on their resume, which will hopefully mean certain players will be more open to joining the BBL than before, the added quality will then hopefully make fans want to come and see this higher level of player more often, leading to increased viewership and media attention,, at which point the league is much stronger than it was, with loads more fans and is now worth a lot more than it was Whether any of this will work or not who knows but I think they’ve been pretty clear about their long term vision/goals

I have to ask the question
Is the Lions coach of the level to manage this group of players?
Now we actually know his name?
The better and more experienced the players the better and more experienced the coach needs to be surely
I realise they might not need much coaching to win at BBL level
But they will at European level?

It’s going to be fine - we’ve got Rob Youngblood and Nick Lowry helping 😂

Could someone clarify what the rules are with regards to non-domestic players in EuroCup? How many are Lions allowed to use and does it matter what country they're from? You'd think this would be an easy thing to look up but I'm struggling. Assuming these deals get done, that takes Lions overseas quota to four, three of which hold European passports. Its crazy, I've just read through the Eurocup bylaws and it doesn't seem to mention this? I checked Gran Canaria from last season, they had 10 non spanish players on the Eurocup website under their roster.

Dekker is officially a Lion now 2 hours ago that appears, I just looked him up on Wikipedia, 6:45 p.m. and he's now listed as a London Lions player!! They may have their faults but someone's pretty fast with the Wikipedia postings.

I heard between 2.5 and 3 for the season. They should take the absolute mickey in the BBL this year.

So if the Lions are going to run a 12 man roster assuming the rumours of Tarik Philip and Tomislav Zubcic are true then that would be the 12 done
PG: Nelson, Soluade, Kaboza SG: Phillip, Queeley SF: Dekker, Hruban, JWH PF: Ovie, Zubcic, C: Koufos, Sharma
My only worry there is all 5 guards are all fairly small and Dekker is more of a power forward really I think, ideally I’d have not gotten one of the bigs and got an athletic, defensive wing instead

Its crazy, I've just read through the Eurocup bylaws and it doesn't seem to mention this? I checked Gran Canaria from last season, they had 10 non spanish players on the Eurocup website under their roster. I'm guessing you've dug up the same document as me. 456 pages long and still doesn't seem to contain the pretty basic info I was looking for. Needless to say I was only skim reading. Difficult to figure out how the various pieces are going to fit together without knowing the rules. Even with Phillip and Zubcic Lions are surely not done. You apparently need a minimum of 13 registered players in EuroCup. The likes of Ward-Hibbert and Kaboza won't get a sniff in that competition. Not convinced Queeley will be too involved either. This would also only give them four overseas players and three of those have European passports. They had seven overseas last year. Think it's hard to have much of an opinion on the coach at this stage. He's clearly pretty young in coaching terms. The fact that he was involved in the chaotic end to last season does strike me as more of a negative than a positive. And I think that if I had very deep pockets and was trying to transform a so-so BBL team in to some sort of European force, more or less overnight, I'd feel a lot more comfortable with a coach that's been there and done it before. Given what Lions are trying to achieve and how much money they seem willing to spend to do it, Schmidt does feel like a slightly underwhelming appointment.

Forget about basketball tactics
Dealing with the egos of these players and keeping them happy and as one as a team will be hard enough
Most players will surely be earning 5 times plus what the coach Is earning?
