Should be a good final - anyone giving Dragons much chance to win?

Not much change this week, Thunder lose to Thames Valley which means they'd basically need to win all 4 remaining matches and probably hope results go their way for a place in the playoffs. They lost in recent weeks to Thames Valley, Nottingham Hoods, Bradford Dragons & Barking Abbey so probably wouldn't have been favourites to lift the playoff trophy anyway.

The trophy final is available to watch here:
Very good presentation, good crowd, good game albeit not as close as you might want. But definitely an advert to show basketball goes beyond the BBL in this country.

That game had some ending!!! Well done to breakers, losing the league after going undefeated all season couldnt have happened to more deserving team in solent! Thats what happens when you clearly had a d1 team but chose to not play d1

I was so surprised that we won against Reading Rockets that I forgot to update the league table! Good weekend for Hemel coming away with 2 wins, but Derby would need to lose 2 out of their remaining 3 now to not win the title. Great weekend for Thunder as Daniel Johnson Thompson blocked Reading's shot on the buzzer to seal the win. I believe that it may actually be 2 teams dropping (happy to be corrected), which means there never was a relegation battle between London Elite and Barking Abbey as they're both going down. Clearly they're the worst 2 teams this season as the table shows. 4 teams could make the final playoff spot, Thunder might need to win all 3 but possibly 2 could do it (I haven't checked the permutations). I think we have Birmingham and Nottingham so 2 possible wins and could clinch the head to heads on both that way. Thames Valley have the head to head over us so would need to get ahead of them (or have a very favourable 3 or 4 way tie I guess).

A bit of a mixed bag this week, losses for Derby and Hemel shake things up at the top. Derby just need to win both in their double header weekend to be sure of the title, would be interesting to see it go down to literally the final match in the NBL1 calendar. Loughborough add their names to the small list of teams who won 2 in a double header weekend this season. Barking get their win to finally lift them off the bottom but I believe both teams will be relegated regardless. Teams have been tied on points all over the table all season, but finally seem to have some space between them other than at the top. Although Essex are on top, Derby will overtake them if they win both so it will likely be short lived. Thames Valley have finished all their matches with only Worthing and Derby with 2 left to play, everyone else just the 1. Thames Valley therefore finish 10th, unless Worthing can with both their remaining matches. London Elite could still regain 12th if they win and Barking lose. Worthing will have 11th unless they win both which would only get them 10th. Birmingham could make it to the playoffs if they win and Nottingham lose. Nottingham will retain 8th if they win, or Birmingham lose. Bradford have 7th, Loughborough have 6th, Newcastle have 5th, but could steal 4th from Reading with a win and a Reading loss. Reading have 4th if they win, or Newcastle lose. Top 3 is a bit complicated, assuming Derby win both then they're top, Essex would be 2nd and Hemel 3rd. I don't think Hemel can win the title, it could end a 3 way tie which I can't be bothered to work out right now! That's how I see it, hopefully no mistakes but no guarantees!

Ok, if Derby lose both then Essex win the title, if Derby lose 1 and Hemel lose then Derby are tied with Essex with Derby winning due to having the head to head. If Derby lose 1 and Hemel win, they would end in a 3 way tie (all assuming Essex win here), which Derby coming out top, Hemel 2nd and Essex 3rd. So I think Derby can finish 1-3, Essex can finish 1-3 (if they finish in a 3 way tie), Hemel can only finish 2-3. They'd be 2nd in a 3 way tie. 3 way tie would only be if Essex lose, Hemel win and Derby wins 1 and loses 1. Hopefully got that right!

Second thoughts perhaps not. You're right, I should have done. I missed the fact that Derby could lose both which would also put Hemel 2nd, not that it really matters anyway. Essex have won today, so Derby need to win both for the title, any slip ups and the title will be Essex's. This literally could go down to the final shot of the season as their match tomorrow tips off last.

So here it is, the final league table (literally!). Derby won, Essex will be gutted to have lost to Derby twice, comprehensively, which cost them the title, but also a month ago they lost to Birmingham, their only loss against another team not in the top 3, and one that should they have avoided would have won them the title. I hope you've all enjoyed the league table this season (if there's anyone out there?!). I only did it this season as for some bizarre reason the league weren't doing their own. So assuming they manage to get their league table working again next season then this is my last one. Benji signing off for another season, see you in a few months!

Thanks Benji. It's been interesting. A close season.
Whilst there's little prospect of BBL getting any new teams, and a likelihood of losing at least one team, in NBL D1 there is plenty of potential for well funded teams to come into the league, teams to improve and for the league to improve overall.

Plenty of people out there reading this Benji - we have loads of 'lurkers' who read but don't post as well as a few regular contributors! It would be nice if some more BBL fans would take an interest in the NBL though, as its really the life blood of British basketball, with the BBL a kind of separate entity on its own that just happens to be a higher standard, but not massively so. I used to think that way in the early days before the Bears moved and Worthing acquired an NBL team, then I really got into it. Shame to see Thunder do so piss poor this season though!
