was out officiating tonight and kept phone off so could get in and watch this game so just finished - so glad I did, made it so much more enjoyable not knowing if London would let their big 5 (could argue 6) play 30+min and pull it back. Coach decided nope wanted to learn more about his other guys - liked his comment in the HT interview that last night was not an excuse - recognition the issue was the basics, not the schedule.
Only downside of this game was the commentary - you are broadcasting for the league and sky, not a Lions channel - need more balance. Plus this constant reminder through the game that Lions played last night. Well hello last weekend Eagles played Friday then travelled for a game on Saturday and managed to win them both. This loss was all about Lions deep squad doesn't click the way expected and 20 turnovers leading to a very low shot count. If your going to take 16 less shots than your opponent - your going to need a very high shot made % to stay in the game let alone have a chance of the W.
Thought other than a 2min spell that Eagles moved the ball well, looked decent intensity and despite a big lead coach called that timeout to sort them out and return to being in control.
We all missed JJ when he moved on from the Rocks - despite being on another team (and the driving force of the Glads loss last saturday), am enjoying seeing him perform again in our league. I think it is also helping Green as the early season focus all seemed to be putting the weight of responsibility on Taj's shoulders that as much as he was an exciting showman at Giants, thought too much was being built up by some on him - love to see him in a squad but using NBA terminology, dont see him as a face of franchise and all that goes with that.
Also nice return from Austin Jr - making me regret my prediction lge entry for Saturday's game.

Well done to Newcastle on a well deserved win. Yes, London played in EuroCup last night, but if I’m being totally honest I’m not convinced we’d have won even if we hadn’t. Lots of talk about London not playing their A team, but the likes of M Morgan, C Morgan, Taylor, Sharma and Queeley all played 20+ minutes. That team should have been better than a 22pt loss. I think we’d have only won if we had a fully fit squad with the likes of Dekker and Nelson playing too. On another note, was nice to see framed London jerseys presented to JWH and Will Neighbour before the game. I’d like to see more if that. I hope there’s one for Justin Robinson being planned next time Surrey are at the Copper Box. It’s always going to happen when you have 5 “bench” players play big minutes after hardly having any game time together. They had no cohesion last night. Kaboza, Queeley, Sandy, Udeh, Gustys.. similar to the Plymouth game and lacked that team edge. Which is understandable given how little games they play together. Newcastle had it in abundance and looked like a team that were 5 games unbeaten. London won’t be concerned about losing but will be concerned by the recent defence and points conceded. Happy for coach Steutal. Has taken ALOT of criticism, specially on the Eagles social media.

Eagles were relentless and took the well deserved win. JJ is an elite BBL player and I thought JWH also showed out against his former employers. One bright spark for Lions was Queeley who showed he is more or less fully fit and will be a useful addition to the rotation.

Got to hand it to Steutel - he's got this roster playing really well and no other BBL team will want to face them. The absolute gem that shines out is JJ. What a performance from him - again! He's shown up with his A game each time he's stepped onto the court. Doesn't appear to have any real weaknesses and he excels in most respects. Not many players will relish guarding him or be able to prevent him scoring and, most importantly, dishing out oodles of assists per game.

With everyone fit no one should have to play more than 30 minutes.

However he had a great impact off the bench last night, and is probably where Eagles should look to use him. Whats the deal with Scott Spencer? Obviously coming back from injury but Stuetal must really see some potential in him to keep him around this long taking up an import slot. Featured in the last 6 games but for an average of about 4 minutes.

Yet they had the opportunity to give him one a few weeks ago and didn't, so fear he's not getting one. The fact that Will Neighbour got one (nothing personal, but how many games did he actually play for London?) and Justin Robinson might not really, really, angers me. London Lions - please prove me wrong.

Plus this constant reminder through the game that Lions played last night. What about the constant reminder it was Thanksgiving night... a holiday not even celebrated or relevant in this country! Plus the obligatory mention of Gabe Olaseni's moustache... for heavens sake, how many more times do we have to be told he used to have a beard then over the summer just decided to shave it off. It feels like we get told every time! No reminder that Azania had her own t-shirt this week though, so at lease there's that. A lot of steps forward with the coverage this season, but the commentary has generally been a step backwards - at least on the Sky games.

Oh and the biased new Commentary team On sky is awful Azania and that other guy, Azania appears to want to talk about herself quite a lot. And Gabe Olaseni's moustache. It's quite funny that on the YouTube stream there was a very short technical hitch during an advert break where we saw Todd and Azania in the commentary booth when we weren't supposed to and a make-up artist was doing Azania's hair and make up. Now I know they're on camera for a few minutes each game, but to need a make-up artist?! I very much Dan and Ant require that.

I think it's just Todd Harris. He is the most awful biased corniest commentator I've ever heard. He literally has zero knowledge of the BBL, just terrible. Azania is ok when paired with either Josh Bett or Dan. I also found Troy Deeney far more interesting and insightful than Ovie.

Nothing compares with Dan Routledge. When it's Dan and Azania he does sometimes seem a little irritated by her aimless contribution.

I wanted to try and stick up for the sky commentary, but there's really no basis to be able to do that - the performance, for sky games, is of a much lower quality than recent years. Kieron Achara is still sadly missed - disgusting! Thought Troy Deeney was a pleasant surprise - showed that you can still make a useful input even if you're not steeped in the BBL - contrast that with the commentary team. I will say that I think the general level of commentary across the YouTube games has improved this year (although they don't see all the game, not being at the arena) and it's a step forward from some of the local approaches last year (speaking as a Sharks fan 😉).

I'm flabbergasted no one at the league has realised how terrible Todd and Azania are and done something about it. I can't listen to them and just mute the feed now. They offer nothing whatsoever and seem to be put on air for their own self gratification.
The fact they are more often than not the pairing for our NATIONALLY BROADCASTED games is even more galling.
