From the Euro league website The BKT EuroCup Regular Season Round 5 game between Hapoel Shlomo Tel Aviv and the London Lions will be played in London instead of Tel Aviv, with the contest now taking place at 19:30 local time (GMT) on Thursday, November 2 instead of on Wednesday, November 1. This decision has been taken considering the impossible nature of hosting games in Tel Aviv due to security concerns derived from the ongoing armed conflict in the area. Euroleague Basketball (EB) has requested that Hapoel Shlomo Tel Aviv present an alternative arena located out of Israel to host its upcoming BKT EuroCup home games. Fingers crossed the Palestine protestors or worse don't take an interest in this. This is one of those times basketball wants to be a minor sport and not attract attention.

Euroleague Basketball (EB) has requested that Hapoel Shlomo Tel Aviv present an alternative arena located out of Israel to host its upcoming BKT EuroCup home games. A few comments on this... London have confirmed that on the advice of local police this game, now on Thursday night, will take place behind closed doors. I understand the reasoning behind that. However, given the circumstances I think this should still count as Tel Aviv's home fixture. It seems unfair that London have basically sacrificed a home fixture. Given the game will be played behind closed doors I'd love to know the agreed financials around this. Are London really expected to cover the costs of staging a home game with absolutely no ticket revenue to offset it? Or are Tel Aviv and/or EuroCup covering the costs of this one? Also, this now means London have 2 games in 2 days. Could this effect their performance against Bristol - which could already be a challenge given they're 2nd in the league, on Friday night? Finally, I write all the above with the awareness that this is just basketball and there are far more important issues going on right now

Interestingly now this game is being opened for a limited number of tickets to season holders. Whilst I'm glad I'll be able to watch, I'd much rather this not count as the 'home' game and get to see us play them in front of a packed crowd.
However, as LTfan rightly pointed out, there are far bigger things going on so I'm just thankful it can go ahead.

Well, the cash hasn’t run out yet in London - Lions have signed a short term deal with Lithuanian big Rostas Gustys who started the season in ACB…………..
Maybe there is a magic money tree out there after all.

I'm still a bit miffed that this was considered a London home game... watching the game on TV it looked like there were as many away supporters in the arena last night as there were home fans!
Any, Tel Aviv won 98-90, and are now one of only three teams to be unbeaten in the competition (they have played one less game than the others though). If anything that final score was fairly complimentary for London, even with Tel Aviv's half-court 3 pointer on the final buzzer, as they were clearly the better team last night. Looking for the positives and London are still 4th in their group, and I'm hoping this might spur them on to win against Bristol in the BBL tonight.
Anyone know why Sam Dekker wasn't playing last night? Is he out injured again?

Back in action overseas tonight with a mid-table clash against Spanish team Joventut Badalona. Both teams are 3 -2 so far this season.
Joventut Badalona were the team that knocked London out of the play-offs last season (89-78).

TNT Sports 9 (red button), if you have access via BT or Virgin.
Looks like most of the squad without Dekker and Sharma, could be a tough night for Lions.

Unfortunately I didn't have time to watch it, but this is a big milestone for London Lions. They are now a Liga Endesa level team. The best league in Europe and maybe the second best league in the world. All we need now is for the other 9 teams to catch up, and then to add about another 6 teams, then it's job done. BBL will be the second best basketball league in the world.

Wow - beating Joventut in Spain feels like a huge win. Also impressive that they did it without Dekker playing. Great team performance!

Cracking game. Badalona were without some key players and played a young squad, but still a historic win!

'other teams just need to catch up'
or be comfortable losing 10s of millions of pounds.
Hmm

A great win. I know this wasn't perhaps the Badalona team it has been, but still to beat them (or any ACB team!) on the road is an achievement.
I know we're not yet half way through the regular season but London are currently looking quite comfortable in a play-off spot even with the tougher new format this season.

Yes well I am putting this historic win in the context of 777 Partners own stated objectives. I calculated we're 6% there. 1 ÷ 16 = 6%

A 5pm game against Besiktas Istanbul tonight, who are 5-1 and 2nd in the group. I think this'll be a real challenge for London, who are 4-2 and 4th in the group. It's the first time London have ever played Besiktas, and Besiktas haven't lost a home game this season.
