Still no news re Conner Washington? Thought if he was staying it would have been announced by now. Are Eagles or Gladiators going after him with a silly offer? That would be ultimate lazy recruitment for them!! But a proper sign of intent And would well and truly set the cat amongst the pigeons!! Not Gladiators. The Gladiators when announcing Johnson said that he rounded off the BBL squad - then the next announcement was the three departing players - so for now Glads have their roster. 13 strong - other than the games where the 'apprentice/training squad' u23 type players were on bench to fill the sheet out, I dont recall a full bench in the times since the move to the Emirates and not sure it happened at Kelvin hall either.

Presumably both contain the letters "wash".

What about Aaron Menzies? I haven’t heard anything about where he will be playing next season. Won’t teams be starting their preseason training soon? Does anyone know where he is training?

That's an interesting thought. Difficult for him to hide away anywhere without being spotted. Perhaps Paternoster saw him as a work in progress then decided he would be too much work.

Riders would certainly have tried to keep Whelan. But if Gladiators are supposedly the biggest threat to Lions now financially, it doesn't seem particularly surprising that they were able to outbid us. Perhaps if we'd taken on Europe this season it would have been a different story. I think there's a very good chance Adekoya was simply let go rather than 'lost'. Solid bench player but he never struck me as someone we'd be all that fussed about holding onto once his studying was done. Would I take Jubril back over Lall or Idowu? Absolutely not. Idowu has barely been spoken about all summer but this is a guy who was last seen averaging 13 points, 7 boards and better than a block a game in the competitive BNXT league. His injury problems and inactivity the last couple of seasons are definite red flags but if he can stay healthy, and if he's the same player he was a year or two ago, this is surely another potential impact player.
If Eagles are one extreme in terms of how to put together a BBL roster, Riders are indeed pretty close to the other this year. Ideally I'd have liked a better balance between the two. I'd have liked a few more quality returnees and a bit more pro experience... Jackson signing with a Japanese third tier side seems rather underwhelming considering where some other players who were in the league last season have landed. But in terms of college pedigree, I think you'd do well to sign a better bunch of rookies than these. Lots of uncertainty but bags of upside. That's this years Riders team in a nutshell for me. Quite looking forward to USA Select next month. Not normally a fixture I pay much attention to but it feels well worth watching this year.

I'd be really excited if I were a Riders fan, they've really rolled the dice with recruitment. Going to be interesting to see how they stack up against the more known quantities like Newcastle in a few weeks time

If Zach Jackson has signed in Japan D3 then, whilst it sounds underwhelming, the cash may well have been great. From memory CJ Gettys went to Japan 3 for lots of $$$ after leaving Newcastle
