A very welcome piece of good news after yesterday's rebrand debacle. In terms of starter calibre, potential impact players I actually thought there was a good chance Pinson was the final piece. I definitely didn't think we'd have someone with this type of potential left to announce. Leading scorer on a Big 12 team last season. I shouldn't imagine there have been too many BBL players over the years with that on their resumes. It appears he also had multiple pre-draft workouts with NBA teams this summer. Not entirely sure where he slots in to this team but definitely a promising addition.
The dearth of pro experience among our new signings this year does surprise me. But with the exception of Thomas, all of our new Americans have, at one time or another, been impactful players at elite NCAA1 level. Lots of explosive looking all round playmakers. Lots of guys who play above the rim. TJ Lall did a pretty good LeBron impersonation in TBT and I'm not sure he's even a starter now. As a collection of high upside young talent, I'm coming around to the idea that this a pretty impressive group we've put together here. I definitely think it has the potential to be a very fun team to watch.
Could I request that more Riders fans start to sound excited please.

As I have consistently said, Riders will have recruited wisely and will be right up there in the scrap for second.

Think this singing is a really exciting addition.
Maybe we’ve played our cards wisely, maybe this is the start of a cycle as often Coach Rob does. A season of adjustment for the overall goal ?

Yeah I'm definitely excited. Given the choice at the beginning of the summer I'd have probably taken the majority of last years team and hoped for a couple of key improvements but there's something exciting about the unknown.
You can definitely make a case that on paper this is the most talented set of rookies Rob has ever recruited. 4 guys who have averaged double figures in elite conferences. Big 12 and SEC ranked as 1st and 2nd best conferences last year. Holmes looks the pick of the bunch to me. Leading scorer on a team that was ranked for most of last year, nearly cracked the top 10 and looked as if they might challenge for the big 12 title before a couple of injuries. He was also invited for a second predraft workout with the Bucks, so they must have seen something in him to ask him to come back in. If Pinson can produce like he did in his season at LSU we could have a special back court this year. Would expect to see some 3 guard line ups with Holmes at the 3 too.
Lots of rookies though. Doesn't always translate to the pros. We've had a few guys with good college careers that have come in and it just hasn't worked out. Hopefully it will this year.
Wonder if this move is necessity or whether Rob has gone for high upside to try to challenge London. You obviously pay for experience because it's the known commodity. But if you know that what you're getting is not enough to beat the team above you is it worth rolling the dice. Also the interesting contrast with Newcastle in the way the two teams have recruited.
Looking forward to the season...assuming we actually have any fixtures to play.

I'm really looking forward to seeing how this set of players perform as a team. Given the ridiculous divide between £ions and every other team then why not go for something fresh? It's not as if the league's there for the taking but the cup competitions just might may be. I'm sorry we couldn't retain Whelan though. He was one of Riders' best acquisitions. The spectre of injury always seems to loom over our guards so I'm keeping my fingers crossed that we'll avoid that curse.

So Riders recruitment policy this season is pretty much the total opposite of Eagles
Do we call Riders policy "industrious" recruitment? Lol
Compared to "lazy"
Let's see which policy works best
Rob won't be intending to play for runners up spot either
It's not in his nature
This will be his roll of the dice to challenge Lions the best he can

If he can get his head back into the game, riders can be second and snag a potential cup. Doubtful though, his job is ghe hardest its been in a long time. Theres 3 or 4 teams fighting for 2nd whereas it used to just be 2 teams fighting for first

I actually think Riders recruitment is really smart. If you can hang onto those high profile rookies for a few seasons while they get better and better it could work really well... But if they do well and leave for Europe after one season (like Flyers last season) then it's perpetual rebuild time which as an Eagles fan I can say mostly sucks.

And I reckon with the playoff final last season he felt he let that one get away as out of all the games against London I felt that one was one where Leicester should have and could have beaten the Lions. And I agree with IRF whilst to begin with his goal was to make Leicester a force to be reckoned with. Now he certainly won't be playing for runner up position and would like to think they can challenge the Lions. Although I suspect for Riders this year is going to be more of a rebuild year more then anything. But until I see the teams take to the court who knows.

Tbh, if we have an exciting team to watch then I'll be happy. If we actually win any silver I'll be VERY happy.

Assuming that 777 doesn’t implode, I suspect that London will be a step too far, but I fully expect Leicester to be a well-coached talented group who will be a force to be reckoned with. The challenge for everyone else will be to deprive London of a (3 trophy) domestic clean sweep (they won’t ever do the proper 4-trophy one but that’s down to their owners so no sympathy there!).

Pretty clear that much of this is budgetary. Bottom line is rookies (even very good ones) are cheaper than 3/4 year vets. No way Leicester loses Whelan to the BBL if they can afford him, probably the same with Adekoya : they did well to keep Mckenzie but it might be that the cost of that has forced them down the rookie path with their US options.

Nah I dont buy that they lost those 2 to cost. I reckon whelan wanting european basketball and Adekoya wanted playing time. Riders have plenty of money for a competitive squad, rob recruits well. Rookies or not they'll be above average bbl for sure. Its not like rob runs a lazy camp either, probably the most professional run club in the country

Europe may be a factor but in my experience money talks!

Still no news re Conner Washington? Thought if he was staying it would have been announced by now. Are Eagles or Gladiators going after him with a silly offer? That would be ultimate lazy recruitment for them!! But a proper sign of intent And would well and truly set the cat amongst the pigeons!!

Not certain he'd attract big offers. He was out for much of last season with persistent injury. Can he fully recover? Debatable. Moreover, he's coming to the twilight of his career.

I honestly would not be bothered if Conner didn’t return next season, After last season i wouldn’t risk a place on the roster to one one who’s now injury prone, Saying that we resigned Walker, But when he’s fully fit he’s a beast for us.
