After some success in the recent the recent NCCA college tournament Tosan Evbumowan has declared himself for the upcoming NBA 2023 Draft. If selected he will become the first British player to be drafted to the NBA since Ryan Richards back in 2010. If successfully drafted could this be a huge step for the game here in the UK? (happy to be corrected) Yeah, it's debatable what nationality he is. He was also born in the US, so officially he's Polish-American/British. But even if we discard Sochan, has it really been 13 years since a Brit got picked in the NBA draft? What about Luol Deng? |

Deng was drafted in 2004 (he only played one season in college)
Same draft as Ben Gordon who was also British but didn't play for GB until after his NBA career was done.

The football World Cup was on at the time and he bought an England shirt up to the stage with him for his photo with a very confused looking David Stern. Mullins was later, 2008 maybe. The last British player drafted was O.G. Anunoby in 2017, although to my knowledge has never expressed an interest in playing for GB. |

Yeah but I always think that and sometimes it's available on league pass, but after the lottery picks have come and gone, it gets really repetitive and you don't know who most of the lads are by that point. Better to just see where the Brits get picked then watch them on YouTube.

For someone like me who knows nothing about college basketball is there a chance that either Tosan or Quinn will get drafted? I assume both would be late 2nd round, if at all. I don't think I've seen either players name on any mock drafts from journalists.

I saw a report that Quinn had withdrawn from the draft last week. Tosan's name has been linked with a couple of teams in the late second round so has more of a chance, but all depends on how the tryouts went. He certainly has a lot of tools for a decent European if not NBA career.

In the end anyone who got a Betamax finished up with egg on their face  Annoyingly Sky Arena isn't one of the free channels for us non-subscribers. I'll have to see if I can catch anything on league pass but looks like they are shilling a summer pass that includes the draft. There will be highlight videos up tomorrow but not quite the same, plus I like the analysis you get from Kenny Smith and Barkley on the new guys coming in. |
