Hi guys for fun I wanted I thought an interesting topic to throw out would be a BBL Genie.
We all have ideas of what we would like to see for our teams, the league and British Basketball in general. But if you only had 3 wishes for the BBL what would you wish for?
The only ground rules are...
1. You can't wish your team a championship, trophy win or sweep. So this would still need to be earned.
2. You can't wish badly on a rival team, player or person for example you can't say "I wish Robbie P would leave Leicester so they start losing games"
3. Like all genies would say you can't wish for 3 more wishes.
I look forward to hearing the responses.

Every team playing in a proper, profitable arena.
A BBL2 or at least some form of progression/demotion system.
BIRMINGHAM.

1. A refurb of the Crystal Palace National Sports Centre and a team to play from there. If that counts as 2 wishes, just the refurb then because if I have a Genie I'm going to ask for the more expensive thing. I reckon with a nice facility there a team would follow.
2. A Premier League football team to set up a basketball department. Someone like Man City or Chelsea. Or a big rugby club like Saracens or Leeds Rhinos. That would be a game changer in terms of investment, media interest and fans. If one team does that others are likely to follow; especially those with international owners.
3. COB Basketball club to have a 3000 seater arena in a central Birmingham location.

All the clubs being linked to professional football teams would be great Works for Barcelona I know the owner of Man City plans to build a big indoor arena, probably too big for BBL, but they tend to build facilities almost just for the sake of it. They have endless oil money that they use to build things. Their reserves play in an actual second football stadium. They could build a basketball arena and fund a BBL team for less than the salary of one of their reserve players.

Lol They could make him very wealthy indeed, give him a very high profile platform, recruit the best British players in the world, fly him to all the far away games, and give him a chance to test himself in FIBA Europe Champions League. So, maybe.

Although I do really like this idea and I believe Newcastle United tried to do something similar under John Hall uniting the Eagles, United, Ice Hockey team and Falcons Rugby club but it never stuck or materialised as far as I am aware. I think for my wishes I would probably go... 1. For my the Eagles club I would like to see us compete in Europe once we have thr right team together. 2. For the League I would like to see more franchises but maybe I would wish the return of the Worcester Wolves to the BBL as they were great rivals with a nice venue. 3. And finally I was debating a copa del rey style tournament but will probably opt more for a best of 3 playoffs instead. But I am loving the ones shouted out so far. For those still thinking can be as serious or whacky as you want so long as it is within the rules. Could even wish LeBron James played for your team.

To really have something!! We need an amazing genie!! Lol Well, the NBA doesn't have this and what you find is that teams go up and down in the pecking order all the time. So providing all teams had enough money and could assemble competitive rosters every year, I don't think it would be the same old teams winning every season. That would keep it interesting. Hard to see a big enough market for a BBL2 and the NBL!

Man United were a decent team but none of the promises by the club were kept (move out Stretford s/c into new venue on car park at the end of OT where statues are now) then thy lost interest. Glasgow Rangers was a short lived team as well (though basketball politics rather than football prioritisation saw that one fall away). Newcastle while part of the sporting club, don't think they actually took on the name United unlike Glasgow and Manchester who did take on the football clubs name - but same result in NE that focus of board on football and lost interest in the other parts of the sporting club.

Everton Tigers did OK as well until people looked at how much money came in and how much money went out. It was a little more complicated that that, I suspect Bigz could fill a couple of pages with his take on that.

1) A good, well equipped, venue c4-6,000 capacity in Birmingham 2) COB Rockets attracting the comercial funding to move up to the BBL 3) Better media coverage of the sport, that caters for the different audience demographics that are interested.

1) Relegation and promotion 2) Financial stability that would lead to roster stability and improved basketball 3) IRF not to somehow turn every single thread into a Riders thread
To be fair not sure that even a genie could handle the third? 😂

Nice wishes, so far I'm noticing a theme of Birmingham, big arenas and promotion/relegation system. I am surprised no one yet has wishes for Surrey Scorchers to be alot stronger.

1) European basketball type crowd atmospheres at BBL games 2) All BBL teams playing in min 4k venues with jumbotrons in place 3) min 16 sustainable clubs with players who hang about multiple seasons
