I think relegation and promotion is important in sport So maybe we need 20 BBL teams as above and two leagues of 10? To really have something!! We need an amazing genie!! Lol Well, the NBA doesn't have this and what you find is that teams go up and down in the pecking order all the time. So providing all teams had enough money and could assemble competitive rosters every year, I don't think it would be the same old teams winning every season. That would keep it interesting. Hard to see a big enough market for a BBL2 and the NBL! IMO in an ideal world there would be a 16 team BBL and below that a very strong NBL. With a strong BBL there would be more interest in basketball which would benefit the NBL clubs. NBL could become like what the BBL is now. It seems that clubs like Solent Kestrels and Worcester Wolves are very committed to basketball and see their futures in the NBL. Overall this is good for basketball in Britain. So, assuming we keep the 10 we already have, and a genie will build 6 new arenas or reburb old ones, where do we want these 6 new BBL teams?

Birmingham Worcester (back) Edinburgh Leeds Northampton or Milton Keynes Cardiff Ps we could do with a decent team again in Newcastle as well at some stage

Good suggestions, especially considering we don't have a genie.
Cardiff has a few suitable existing venues. Worcester, goes without saying. Milton Keynes has that arena on the side of the football stadium.
Edinburgh could use Oriam and Leeds could use Leeds Beckett Arena. Both could do with their own new arenas but as neither team exists yet those venues would be good to begin with.
Birmingham Rockets as said previously really could do with an arena.
Other locations I would like to see are South London, West London and either North London or Hertfordshire. I don't think one London team is enough. It would be great to have rival London BBL teams.

I'd say it was more important to have a good geographic spread of teams than having a second team in any city.

I'd say it was more important to have a good geographic spread of teams than having a second team in any city. I would expect about a quarter of BBL teams to be in London. This would be in line with the Premier League and Premiership Rugby.

I think I'd have my 16 teams in: Glasgow, Newcastle, Manchester, Sheffield, Leicester, Cheshire, Birmingham, Cardiff, Bristol, Guildford, Plymouth, Brighton and 2 in London with 1 just outside for example Kent. That leaves one more, and I think perhaps the East Midlands market might be worth exploring? Ipswich? Norwich? Or if thats a dud, back to Derby.

Guildford is just outside London!
Having a quarter of the teams in one area is too high.
A second Scottish team would be good, also one on the central south coast, in Hampshire or Sussex.

1 Sky to continue live BBL coverage 2 All clubs to have 3000+ seat venues 3 Spectator numbers increase so that all venues regularly sell out.

It would be good to have a team in South London (Crystal Palace) and a team in North London or West London. This is where I think a basketball department of a professional football club or rugby club could be a possibility.

Is there any comercial advantage for a football or rugby club to add a professional basketball team? It's unlikely to be a net profit, or give much added value to their commercial sponsors etc

The only benefit I could see would be to tick some boxes on community activities. So relatively wealthy clubs like Spurs, Arsenal, Chelsea wanting to be able to fill their social media feeds with pictures of the likes of Harry Kane shooting hoops with school kids etc. Otherwise the european sporting club does not seem to have legs over here?
It would be interesting to know how much mutual benefit there is for these set ups on the continent? Must be some decent pull through in cross over fans and of course sponsorship. I can only think of most benefits being for the non footballing sports

Is there any comercial advantage for a football or rugby club to add a professional basketball team? It's unlikely to be a net profit, or give much added value to their commercial sponsors etc Maybe not commercial reasons but Wasps, Leeds Rhinos and Saracens all have Netball Superleague teams so they're already onboard with the idea of a multi-sport club, and two of those don't even have an arena to play in. If Leeds Rhinos had an arena it might make sense to have a basketball team as well. I think they have a wheelchair sports club so that's another team within the Leeds Rhinos brand that could utilise an arena. And I think Matt Newby is back in Leeds so that might be something he would be interested in. Saracens very much see themselves as a sports brand representing North London, Herts and even Essex. Saracens play some big games at Tottenham's stadium. Saracens Mavericks play some of their games at University of Essex but they are based at University of Hertfordshire, and their home court isn't exactly a show court. I don't think having a basketball team would help their finances but it would extend their brand. It is a pretty cool brand but with a men's rugby team, women's rugby team, and a netball team it does feel to me like they are missing a men's basketball team and an indoor arena.

I wasn't suggesting another team in Surrey, just having the current Surrey team in Guildford - but yes, it is quite near London I suppose. I suggested Brighton which is in Sussex, not sure you need another along the coast but perhaps there's a market in Southampton or Bournemouth? Leeds would be a good option too I'd have thought.

I think those are all good options if there's a nice arena for them to play in. Going to watch a basketball team play in a local leisure centre or college might appeal to us but it isn't going to attract the wider public. Venues are key, probably more so than the city itself.

It was packed as were all the futsal games in the complex. When the game ended most of the spectators were leaving the arena to make the 100yd walk to the Camp Nou for the 9pm kick-off
