Our season peaked when we defeated London on Sky! I'm still struggling to understand how we can be down with injuries and yet push a team all the way but when we have a fully fit squad we go from Newcastle Eagles to Newcastle highflying Pigeons?
Although I think I've bomb this thread with enough Eagles Frustration. How were the other games last night?
Bristol had another close win over Sharks and Surrey got a suprise win over the Rocks! I think it's to little to late for the Scorchers but for Rocks being 6 points behind that loss could certainly be a sign of trouble for them.
Losing to London sucked but dropping 40 points to Cheshire in the Trophy Semi and to top that with a loss over the Scorchers. March isn't proving to be a good month for coach Gareth.
As for Nix vs Riders the Riders obviously dominate as usual but the Nix I would hope be wanting to put in a better shift in order to prepare for the Trophy Final. You could say they are maybe their being cautious in the hope no-one gets hurt for the final. Although watching then on Sky against Giants and Lions at the start of the season defensively they were ripped apart. Hopefully whatever didn't work out will be sorted in time for next week.

But a valuable player at other clubs So is the player at fault or the club? How's Corey Johnson doing? I bet he must wish he was still with Riders I thought he was exactly the kind of player you needed to sign But he needs a system to believe and trust in just like every other player He was a great character and energy on court for us I thought Showed a lot of leadership qualities Is he another example of right player wrong club or wrong coach maybe? These players shouldn't lose their qualities overnight Is there a pattern here? Conner Washington another type of player you need at your club But something tells me he wouldn't be same player with Eagles either tbh My honest thought IRF was that Corey was a downgrade on Cortez Edwards, he’s done ok but the bar was set so high previously But surely Johnson wasn't signed to replace Cortez Edwards? Johnson for us was a good quality player (and unless I'm not mixing him up with someone else) he vitally had a British passport? Exactly the kind of signing you need to create a deep squad You need at least 10 quality players who you are happy to give good minutes to I believe nowadays to challenge for the League Johnson definitely fits the bill for squad depth unless hes an import and I'm mixed up Canadian but with British passport isn't he To me every player is just a piece of the jigsaw

We were kings of the BBL once and will be again in a way one day their could come a day when the same happens at Leicester as well. Of course. But then we have to react of course. If we can.

Yeah Johnson is Canadian with a British passport. I think ideally he'd be playing 20 minutes a game but often ends up playing 30 minutes or more. He's a fine player but sometimes feels like the team is carrying him when his 3 isn't hot. Wes Person our SG is exactly the same. His defence isn't good enough to make up for his defensive defences if he isn't hot from 3. We're desperate for a player like Jamell Anderson.

The only thing I disagree with IRF on was getting rid of Howard. I would never disrespect a guy like that who has put so much of his life into Eagles to say get rid of him But he was old time 5 or 6 years ago I just think things should move with the times a bit Have others get involved more but keep him involved as well Eagles should be leading the way on and off the court IMO

Even in the worst performances I can normally find some good amongst the bad. Not this time though. In the first quarter we shot 68 percent, Giants 62. No d. By the end it was 45 to 60, still no d. Yes Giants played well but we made them look better. I am bitterly disappointed. I had real hope after the Lions game but cannot see us getting anything from this season now. I think it is a perfect storm of issues in the dressing room and coaching. We have enough talent in both for Eagles to be challenging for honours. I hope we can turn it around, we'll see.
IRF's comments about Paul Blake made me smile. Give ya heed a wobble man. Yes I stole that from a Newcastle United blog 😇

He often drowns out Jeff. Other than that I have no opinion. He's no Pete Jacques but does a very difficult job. Agree Eagles should be leading the way, they have before and will again.

So in summary……it’s a bit like Manchester United who struggle to replace Alex Furguson…… Eagles are struggling to replace Fab….

So in summary……it’s a bit like Manchester United who struggle to replace Alex Furguson…… Eagles are struggling to replace Fab…. But the thing is this isn’t their first season without Fab. They didn’t struggle last season, taking home 2 of the 4 titles - better than any other team in the league. For me that makes this season’s performance more perplexing.

So in summary……it’s a bit like Manchester United who struggle to replace Alex Furguson…… Eagles are struggling to replace Fab…. That kind of talent comes along once every blue moon. I don't mind waiting. IRF, I stand by my point, if anyone can turn us around it is Paul Blake. Since that article we have continued to win trophies and have built an amazing Arena and community organization. Sam and Paul Blake built an amazing team and are responsible for that. The on court product part of that team is lacking at the moment and needs to improve. Whatever is needed to fix that I have faith it will be found. If it doesn't it matters not. Won't stop me supporting and I certainly will not leave early or worse boo the team.

Slightly off topic, but talking about Paul Blake, I don’t think it common knowledge but he’s basically responsible for the current Sky Sports deal too.

We're talking about Newcastle being this amazing franchise, maybe they just had a real diamond in Fab and overachieved for 15 years.
As with the wheres the next Rob P coming from I don't think he's coming until Rob P is a shell of his former (current) self

Is this the first season that Dave F hasn't done the recruitment for Newcastle?
His work analysing the players to recruit was a major part of the sustained success Newcastle had.

Maybe Dave F will pop up on this forum and tell us as he did on Whatsbev. I won’t repeat the on court frustration above, but will moan about Howard. He’ll never be a Pete Jaques but why does he NEVER explain stoppages for controversial decisions when he’s right next to the officials ? Jeff does it every time from the distance of his desk in the rafters.

I don't know for certain but I don't think Dave was involved in an official way with the team recruited last season either. He stepped down at the of the 2019-2020 season and has been a part of the team doing amazing work with community programme.

As with the wheres the next Rob P coming from I don't think he's coming until Rob P is a shell of his former (current) self It is fair to say that some years we over achieved but to flatly suggest we did it for 15 years is just wrong. You don't win a clean sweep by over achieving. We won three. Riders have yet to win one. One day maybe. Be happy and enjoy the ride. LT, that would not surprise me at all. Baldereagle, I don't think he is allowed to make any comments about refereeing decisions. I am sure the refs threatened to stop a game in Sheffield unless Mike Shaft gave up the mike for doing just that. As for Saved and Uncle Jeff have they been invited? If not I am happy to contact both. 🤣🤣🤣I checked my post before sending it and spellchecker changed Davef to Saved😂😂😂. How appropriate, appealed to this old man's humour.
