Serbia gave it their best shot and almost managed to beat the USA. This Olympic competition has had many amazing contests. I still think America will win gold but France on their home court will believe anything's possible after beating Germany. Games like tonight shows why the UK should try and get international Bball on TV more. It would be nice if they were to show Eurobasket and the Fiba World Cup on TV more especially when you have NBA stars playing on those teams and exciting match ups. I suppose during the games im going to try and make the most of being able to watch before its back to Courtside 1891 please sign here. I agree with this. This kind of FIBA international game must be more enjoyable to the average British sports fan than the NBA.

One of the best games I’ve seen in a very long time. Serbia were superb. Brilliant basketballers fuelled by a national pride and a basketball savant in Jokic.
Anyone who thinks the US won just because of Curry though needs to go back to basketball basics.
He was brilliant but Lebron (and I’m generally not a fan of his) once again proved to be the driving force. Hats off to him. Another player I don’t like much is Embiid but I’ve never seen him Play so hard or move so quickly on defence.
This is why we need to be in these events as team GB and get more games like this on TV. It’s a far better, more Watchable product than the NBA.
Gutted for Serbia and Jokic. What a player.
The USA really need to reconsider how they build their teams though. Need a 8 man rotation of stars and then a few more Derick Whites.
You don’t need 12 All Stars to win Gold…..in fact without Kerrs experience it could cost you gold trying to play them all.

Absolutely gutted yesterday, what a massive shame. Pesic mistake was staying with Micic in the fourth who looked frightened. Avramovic would have had the balls to make a play and maybe even forced an extra stop on the other end of the floor. Avramovic is a better player than Micic. What a missed opportunity that was.
Come on France. I cant decide if they have a better squad to get it done. They have much better inside presence, with Lesort, Yabusele and an seldom used Gobert. They have shooters in Cordinier, Batum, Fornier. Will the crowd be a factor, I hope so. It will be the first time the crowd will be against them since the 2010 Final (too often these arenas are full of nieve NBA fans), and that seemed to get the best out of them that day.

The France Germany semi before that was incredible too. Again Germany making a similar mistake with having Obst sat for far too long in the 2nd half when the rest apart from Schroder couldnt make anything.

Yes absolutely, I feel the same way about the EuroLeague as well. I had friends who don't watch basketball who were engrossed in last night's game and asking lots of questions, wanting to know more. People think basketball is only the NBA and the time difference makes it really difficult to follow. I think games like last night show the level of quality that's in the EuroLeague and the tip off times being UK friendly, as well as the games being generally on a Thursday or Friday (not prime football times) will add to the appeal. There's also the added bonus that most sports fans in this country will be familiar with a lot of the clubs competing, you wouldn't have to explain the importance of Partizan vs Red Star or Olympiacos v Panathinaikos to a UK audience. It would be an important gateway to growing interest in this country.

I agree, last night match felt like a bit of a Euroleague vs NBA with the exception of a few NBA players like Jokic and Bogandanovic. The way the game start it came across like an NBA style of game which was all shoot and little defence until the USA realised they needed to change their tactics and adapt and play some D in order to win. European players like Giannis and ex european NBA legends like Pau Gasol have criticised the NBA for lack of defensive and said the Euro leagues are tougher. After last night's match I'm beginning to see their argument for this.

Not sure that's enough to take them past USA though.

Looking at how well nations like South Sudan, Puerto Rico and Japan have done its made me question where the GB national team is in terms of progress. I hope they one day get to make the Olympic stage again but unless something drastic happens I can't see that stage being Los Angles 2028. Unless we qualify and they send a team for the 3x3 anyway.

I did once have hopes of a full basketball tournament in the Commonwealth Games, but I am sure that is not going to happen. Whilst Australia, Canada and New Zealand clearly love basketball they don't have much interest in the Commonwealth Games. GB are miles away from being contenders to qualify for the Olympic Games tournament. The only thing we might qualify for is EuroBasket, which is good, but it doesn't have that NBA Vs Europe aspect.

To be honest at the moment I sadly don't think theirs even going to be another Commonwealth games anytime soon let alone one that has proper basketball being played as well. I did enjoy the Gold Coast Games of 2018 for the fact it gave the BBL players we all knew an international stage to play on but the competition was to 3rd rate for Fiba or the big nations to really care for it. As for GB and Eurobasket we usually have a good run in qualifying but then every time we get to the big dance we get pummelled. Whether this new federation can change this remains to be seen but I would expect one of the goals would to make Team GB competitive enough to win 1 or 2 group games at the next Euro basket. And try to see if they can get the GB games televised on terrestial TV as well.

Well the French are putting up a brave fight but so far this game is going exactly as I expected. USA have clearly come to this game determined and switch on compared to the Semi Finals.
Seems like they can barely miss and are being allowed way to many open looks and second chance rebounds. Whereas France although their not out of it yet definitely don't seem as coordinated offensively as what the Serbs were.
In my opinion the only way I think France can beat USA is for USA to folding in on themselves. If somehow France can keep it close enough so come the 4th USA get to complacent or have a classic 4th Quarter meltdown then maybe they could pinch it.
Although beginning of the 3rd will most likely determine whether USA are going to run away with it or if France can push them all the way. I hope France can mount a comeback though.

Still think LeBron deserves to be MVP. He steadied the ship at key moments. Curry was excellent but James steered the ship throughout the tournament.

How many times? Seriously, how many times?
There is clutch and then is Steph Curry clutch.
Paris is in a state of shock at what we have just seen.
