I've amended the groups in the first post now with the countries that have qualified (although only had to make one amendment from the original posting, changing Latvia for Brazil in the mens comp!)

I downloaded the Paris Olympics app on my phone for the schedule for when the games are being played and what time. You can even view other sport schedules as well (if known) throughout the games.

Ha, there really is an app for everything these days isn't there! Might get it though. Sodding work is going to get right in the way of the Olympics, but as I WFH at least I can have it on in the background!

Anyone go to the o2 tonight for USA v South Sudan? Massive shock in terms of the scoreline, and the fact Sudan nearly won! Would have been a thriller to watch I guess, although the 101-100 scoreline is unhelpful in convincing the UK ignorants that basketball isn't just a game of 'score score score and the winner wins by 1 point, 101-100'

But suspect that Team USA were playing in 2nd gear. When the actual games begin and these teams meet in the groups I expect USA to steam roll Sudan.

US didn't play any defence at all in the first half, and South Sudan couldn't miss, Shayok was deadly as he was against GB. Embid and Davies both played like they were trying not to get injured most of the game. White and Holiday playing most of the second half helped with defence. USA looked a bit lost when LeBron wasn't on court. KD didn't play at all which meant Bam playing minutes at the 4 which weren't very productive. The atmosphere was a bit weird/flat although I suppose it's because most fans were neutral, picked up about after half time when USA started pegging back Sudan.

I was also there and concur with D44. Yanks took the first half too easy and gave SSD the momentum and were lucky to manage to take it back….and even then SSD didn’t go away.
They made it to Olympics for a reason. Long, athletic and if they hit those 3s they will cause some trouble in France.
You have to remember though this is a warm up game. Let’s see when it’s for real.
The atmosphere was made by the excellent SSD fans. Such a shame They could not all in one area! A lot of youngsters were happy to cheer for USA but I noticed a lot of adults who like me came To watch the stars but had no skin in the game in regards to result.
In fact I was more rooting for the underdogs as is the British tradition!!
Tickets were stupid price, food and drink stupidly priced and our seats were reasonable distance to court but the disruption of people who cannot go even 10 mins without leaving their seats was the worst I’ve ever experienced at any sports event.

NBA stars playing next to no defense does sound about right like. Although according to this article apparently Anthony Davis is blaming poor London traffic as a reason for USA not being so hot. basketnews.com/news-209403-anthony-davis-blames-london-traffic-for-poor-team-usa-game-vs-south-sudan.htmlI mean if that is the case and they go up against France in the final then all France need to do is find a way to cause as much carnage on the roads in order to delay the US team coach arriving on time so they struggle to get into the rhythm of the game.

USA are going to be very hard to beat. They won all their warm up games including beating the world champions. LeBron is so dominant. I don't think I've seen another player like him at any level.
I wish there would be basketball internationals in London more often but I know this is just because the Olympics are in Paris. Who knows when we'll see something like this again.

Canada v Greece on Eurosport now. Caught some of France beating Brazil earlier, Wembanyama looked good.

Got to love South Sudan!
It was everything I expected it to be, frantic, showings of insane athleticism, erratic at times but they got it done. Made up for them.

Discovery+ channel showing all sports - I get it free with Sky but it only costs about 4.99 for a month I think. Recommend. Watched South Sudan beat Puerto Rica and USA defeat Serbia.

The +/_ in the USA v Serbia game was 0 when Jokic was on court, however the USA were well ahead in the 9 minutes he was on the bench.
I'd expect Serbi to finish second in their group, and to progress through the play off stages.

I unfortunately don't have Discovery but did tape Greece vs Canada in the mens game from last night and just watched it now and thought it was quite entertaining game with Greece almost making a comeback at the end.
Giannis was incredible but I think the Greeks were just way to slow to keep up with the NBA stacked Canadian team. And it was a very physical contest. As a neutral I thought it was a great game to watch.
Kind of makes me feel sad in wishing GB could match this level but unfortunately internationally. Hopefully the BBF watching these games will hope to aspire our GB team to be this dynamic. Although sadly I think we are long way behind this.
Whilst I like to watch a variety of different sports at these games I'm definitely going to try and catch afew international games where I can and hopefully the men's final which I believe is on a Saturday night in 2 weeks.

The women's game between Puerto Rico and Serbia was pretty good with PR coming back from 20 down but just falling short for the win. Bit of argy bargy in it too!

The standard of basketball across the tournament so far has been insane. Awful lot of good teams this time round.

Agree Bigz. The recent NBA playoffs I thought were excellent but this is Elite FIBA basketball and I enjoy the format more than the NBA. I'm always amazed at how the relatively small differences in rules have such an impact on the way the game is played and its really enjoyable.
With NBA rules Greece beat Spain....because Giannis would be largely impossible to guard. With FIBA rules hes the best player on the floor but its not enough. It is a team game.
Loving it!
