Well I thought they were getting to finals but Teesside dumped out at home by UEL Lions….71-62. Disappointing end to their season. Also with their crowds a loss of revenue. Lions will do ok next season in div 2 they have a good squad, if they sign a couple of more quality players who knows, Arron Smith looks a fantastic player who they signed in January and will do well for them next season.

I think they need a full time non-playing coach. Whether that is Hylands or a.n.other who knows. I see Charles Smith, formerly of your parish, is doing a kids camp there this week? I wonder if there are further developments in the works?
How do you think Mohawks will get on with recruitment Tony if Teesside go up? Easier or harder? It could actually help as Teesside may have to recruit from outside the area more.
At seasons end the amount of local players (Northeast) in each squad was almost identical.
Good for the area to have two big NBL clubs.

Good for the area to have two big NBL clubs. Charles Smith coached us for one season 3 years ago but didn’t continue as the club couldn’t agree terms with him (basically he wanted a wage) so don’t know if anything will develop with the lions. As for us most of last years team should sign up for next season,Steve is holding lots of tryouts next month plus we have a couple of players from the u18s who may step up, so lots of options for us.

Very pleased to see the Mens and Womens team from COB Rockets have qualified for the NBL finals in Manchester. An excellent achievement for the club.

Interesting quote from UEL head coach.
UEL London Lions head coach Roberto Fois said:
"We are excited for the opportunity to compete for a playoff title. As a team, we have cleared a lot of hurdles on our journey to this final and we now face the best overall team in D3, MK Breakers.
“The players and coaching staff are looking forward to the challenge and hope to continue their good form shown in the playoffs, by defeating the second and third seeds to be here.
“We believe this playoff run has shown we are worthy of being a promoted side but regardless we are extremely motivated to bring another trophy to the UEL/London Lions trophy cabinet."
He believes UEL are worthy of being promoted. But only 4 teams get promoted and they lost 3 regular season games. However, there is always the chance of teams dropping out of the NBL entirely so he’s signalling that UEL would want to be moved up if that happens.

Delighted to see that COB Rockets won the D2 Mens final, well dervered success for a great program, that is growing organicly and is providing basketball to many age groups in Birmingham, the club, lead by Kirk Dawes and rob Palmer, ther coaches, players and all involved should be proud of what they have achieved. CON Rockets should become of the the leading NBL 1 sides over the next few seasons.

Love that COB won, will need a big step up for d1. Westminster proved that this year. Have a feeling they have a fair bit more in the way of funds

Mohawks preseason build up has started…. It gives me great pleasure to announce our first two signings for the 23/24 season. Captain Acho Anyigbo returns who will be looking to pass on his experience to our younger players, Acho stills dominates on the defensive end of the court with rebounds and block shots. Jack Marsden has also confirmed his signature for the 23/24 season. Jack has the potential to be one of the best players in the league, his new job commitments took priority last season which meant he missed a lot of games and training but now with a steady timetable he is raring to go and get back to his best and help the Mohawks. Coach Butler says “ It’s great that these two have confirmed to the club, Acho is a great person to have around the club and is a huge part of our programme on and off the court, Jack earned a place in team of the year in 2018/2019 season and could easily play at a higher level but has committed to helping us succeed on our plan and get back to those amazing numbers that helped in get into team of the year. Both are exceptional players and I’m really looking forward to working with both of them again.” #proudtobeamohawk

Some interesting things to note.
Now there are four West Yorkshire teams in NBL 3. There was only one last season and barely enough northern teams to make up a North division.
Team Swindon has been replaced with Bath Basketball. This is not a surprise, Team Swindon owner, player coach and driving force behind both teams is the same person, Tony Wilburn from North Carolina. It’s good to see University of Bath taking basketball seriously.
Plymouth Raiders are back, adding a Plymouth derby match to D3.
It’s great to see basketball growing in the South West and in the North.

You wouldn't find two sides from the same club in the same division in any other sport, it leads to all sorts of complications.
