An entertaining game but Bears finishing was consistently better, and a 5 point deficit flattered Eagles tonight. They've now got a mountain to climb in Denmark, but then again are there any mountains in Denmark ?

Free throws and 3 point shooting did for us, very poor. An enjoyable watch and Bakken were pretty comfortable until the end. Eagles threatened an unlikely comeback but Bakken saw us off. 5 points is nothing in the grand scheme of things but the away leg looks tough.

Well that was both a historic and also a fun game to watch in my opinion. Tonight we took on the Champions of Denmark and we managed to somehow push them all the way tonight.
We might be down by 5 points but given how I thought the game was about to get away from us I will take that. Let's be honest given Bakkens pedigree we knew tonight we weren't exactly going up against a team that was mid to bottom of their domestic league. Going into game one I was worried we could end up being 10-20 points down.
Since now we have seen what they can do I hope we can somehow learn from the tape and come back stronger. Or atleast continue to go down fighting.
I think what hurt the Eagles tonight if I'm honest was poor free throw shooting and having not played for 2 weeks we looked a little out of rhythm which led to quite afew missed opportunities. That being said by the 4th Quarter with our resurgence we looked like we were starting to come out stronger towards the end.
To me the difference maker at the end was definately JJ as him forcing that turnover towards the end in the final 2 and a half minutes was what helped us cut the defecit to 5 and rattle the Bears.
I think with it being 2 legs I got the impression both teams were feeling each other out towards the end and playing in order to still be alive come the 2nd leg. And given we're now back with a full squad and playing BBL games I like to think once we have played a couple of more games we will go to Bakken and play even better hopefully.
Either way I look forward to the next game in 2 weeks and think for our first season in the ENBL as a team we should be proud to have made it this far. Yes it given we are away I think Bakken are clearly and the favourites and were better tonight but the Eagles to win the next game by 6 points isn't exactly out the realms of possibility.
And fun thing I learnt to tonight is the winner of this tie will play the winner of Flyers vs Saliu that could set up an all BBL Final 4 clash.

Well today's the day. Eagles@Bakken with the winner going through to play either Bristol or Saliu in the final 4.
Eagles need to win by 6 if they want to be the team that makes it through. After the first game in Newcastle I believe this game can go either way but it depends which team for both sides turn up.
Eagles need to shoot better free throws, capitalise on open opportunities and stop Bakken getting easy open opportunities on the 3 point line. As for the Bears they will be wanting to avoid foul trouble and take advantage of being on their home court.
My money would be on the Bears for this but ofcourse I will be rooting for Eagles. Whatever happens though I'm glad we have competed in this ENBL competition and believe our team have done us proud representing us and the BBL in it. It's certainly made a one sided BBL season more fun.
Let's go Eagles! 🏀🦅

Gutting - was level at regulation time but had an awful overtime spell to lose

Devastated. Stinking final couple of minutes in overtime swung the tie and fairly comfortable in the end for Bakken. Incredible third quarter, some of the best basketball I've seen this season.

Brilliant game - I thought it was all over at half time but Q3, the last 2 min of Q4 and the first 2min of overtime were a revelation. So many if onlies ! Gutted at the end but Bakken experience/home advantage finally caught up with us.
Despite the loss, the Eagles can return with their heads held high - it's been a brilliant first European adventure !

This was an excellent watch and we came so close in regulation. Not to be though. On checking the stats I see we had 19 more shots and Bakken 26 (!) turnovers. So a bit disappointed with that. Okay, very 😤. Still it was quite a ride, hopefully one we can take again.

To go further in Europe I think Eagles need a higher level centre. No disrespect to Defoe who is incredible to be a starter at his age, and Delpheche is a decent BBL player, but BBL level is their ceiling. I thought Neighbour was disappointing against Bakken. I would like Neighbour released and replaced with someone who gets stuck in more.

yeah. because getting ‘stuck in’ is a requisite of a high level basketball player.
He’s a stretch 5. His job is to hit shots. when he does it’s great. when he doesn’t it not. Getting ‘stuck in’ has nothing to do with it.
Eagles lack of production from the wing spot (and spotty defensive efforts) is what has restricted them this year. Even then they are still 20-9 over their last 29 games in all comps after a 3-8 start.
That has to be the first area to upgrade (if they are able even to retain the guards who have performed so well against bigger budget enbl teams. Mcgill may well be on a few shopping lists).

Just watched the game back now and holy moley I did not expect such an emphatic game or for the heartbreak at the end of it. Certainly game that seemed like a tale of 2 half's.
At Halftime things looked so one sided I was prepared and ready to turn the game off come the end of the 3rd Quarter. After a shaky start from the Bears we started to get into a hole and weren't really testing them much and missing easy buckets and letting them run the show.
The fact Drew and Alex we're constantly talking about the aggregate from the tip seemed irrelevant as up until the 4th Quarter I didn't think much of Bakkens 5 point lead until the final period.
But in the 3rd quarter surprisingly the comeback train that came rolling in saw us go on to play probably our strongest quarter all season. To think if we had have started the first 2 quarters like that we probably would have been in a different position.
Once the game went to overtime I was in complete disbelief but felt we had shown improvement and had shown we had learnt well from the first game against Bears 2 weeks ago. In the end credit to Bakken Bears for the win and showed their experience of playing many a European competition shine through.
Although the one thing that did frustrate from the Eagles perspective during overtime was our free throw shooting. To begin the OT period we looked set and had our chance to put the game on the backfoot when Ricky and Taj went to the line. Had we made those buckets and cared for the ball a little more in that period I reckon we could have seen this one through and be in the final 4.
But overall for our first European experience I feel our team certainly did themselves, Newcastle and the BBL proud. For us to even make the playoffs to begin with I thought we had achieved well this season. But to take on a team like Bakken Bear champions of Denmark and push them all the way to the finish was outstanding for us. If you take out the overtime technically we did beat them by 5 in regulation time.
I hope tommorow night against the Sharks we are able to get back to BBL business and not feel to disheartened by this result as we should be celebrating and hope we look to enter this competition again next season.
Well done and hardlines Eagles! 🏀🦅👏

Agreed Neighbour just doesn’t cut it, isn’t mobile Enough and doesn’t get enough rebounds that he should for his height Yeah he's by far their biggest player. He should be able to play as a traditional centre. I don't understand why the coach lets him just stand at wing. He would be more effective in the key. His shooting isn't all that.
