Fortunately for Phoenix the GB squad just announced for the forthcoming games does not include Aaryn Rai. Obviously others named in the squad will give GB a better chance of winning but it does give Aaryn a good long rest to recharge his batteries and put up ever increasing stat lines for us.

I do find it a bid odd Quinn Ellis was selected given he's got a pretty serious injury currently.
I'm also a bit disappointed Mo Soluade wasn't selected but ah well!

I am very surprised Mo Soluade wasn't selected. I thought he had a good chance of being in the final 12. Only 2 centres, so Olaseni and Menzies are guaranteed places if they're fit. No Sharma, but with only one place for a naturalised player that's understandable. It's a tough call between Mackenzie and Phillip in my opinion. Mackenzie deserves to be picked but Phillip doesn't deserve to be dropped.

The only one that surprises me is Jamel Anderson. I thought he was injured?

Not played for a number of weeks now but no announcement of his recovery time ( nor his injury ).

I would take him over Menzies as the GB guards are good enough to keep Mackenzie and Philip out. Anyone know what’s happened to Okereafor? Seems to have fallen off.

I didn't know who that was to be honest, but I've just looked him up and he should be included. He should be chosen before Menzies but it might be worth having 3 bigs.

Teddy O was in Cyprus last season and is in Czech Republic this season. Surprised by his omission, probably the best point guard GB have, certainly been a difference maker over the years. If Philip is dropped in favour of SK-J we definitely need him. Maybe he's injured or there planning to try younger players. I don't think any of us really want to see Wheatle playing PG again. Does anyone know if Aryn Rai is national or naturalised player? It's a shame if he's naturalised as there's a lot of competition for that one spot.

He’s out for a couple of months atleast. The same with Anderson? He hasn’t played for a while and can’t see him getting a game so why include them. Soluade would be a good replacement. It’s almost like they know the final 12/14 they will be picking, and have just named other British talent to make up the 24!!!

I think for some of the missing names it is a case of are their better players in their positions as well as who is avaliable and wanting to play.
Josh Ward Hibbert is a great player for us and has earnt his place this window. Although at the same time it wouldn't suprise me if he was picked in order to give the host home venue a host player to cheer on and one which new people to Team GB might recognise from Eagles game they may have come to.
Although I'm going to the game live anyway it would be nice if this was televised even if it was on YouTube instead of the most likely behind a pay wall.

Final squad announced. Only 1 Lions player. SKJ is the naturalised player so no Philip or Kimball. Good to see Akwasi Yeboah back and Hesson coming from Japan which I'm not sure many expected.
Amin Adamu, BK Olomoucko (CZE) Dan Akin, Strasbourg (FRA) Jubrile Belo, Stade Rochelais Basket (FRA) RJ Eytle-Rock, Sheffield Sharks Myles Hesson, Toyama Grouses (JPA) Noah Horchler, Lavrio (GRE) Kyle Johnson, Caledonia Gladiators Sacha Killeya-Jones*, Surne Bilbao Basket (ESP) Luke Nelson, London Lions Jacob Round, Zamora (ESP) Josh Ward-Hibbert, Newcastle Eagles Carl Wheatle, Pistoia Basket 2000 (ITA) Patrick Whelan, Caledonia Gladiators Akwasi Yeboah, Galatasaray (TUR)
Some big selection challenges with many from our last group retired or unavailable. Although the starting 5 picks itself with the exception of PG.

I know it's unlikely but does anyone know if either of the 2 games will be televised anywhere? Probably more the away game against Czech since I will be watching the home game in person at the arena.

Anyone know if/where the games are available to watch free? The only place I can find it is courtside 1891 app which isn’t free, these games really should be free to watch to increase support for the GB teams and basketball in general.

I agree, the BBC just announced a deal for the WBBL and today the NBA but nothing for the national team?

I agree, the BBC just announced a deal for the WBBL and today the NBA but nothing for the national team? If GB Basketball offered coverage free of charge to the BBC they’d absolutely broadcast it, certainly on iPlayer and maybe even BBC Three. I know giving away coverage free of charge isn’t great, but I suspect they’re making next to nothing on whatever subscription streaming service it’s on, so might as well give it away for free to the BBC for the exposure. It’s a shame they don’t share this logic.

Let’s get real. Unless U.K. Sport or some other faction of the government commit to investing the £5M+ million per year to develop the national teams and player pathways, we will continue to be deluded to think we can compete.
Seems like shifting the deck chairs on the Titanic!!
