Is that what happened? I could see the Riders bench complaining numerous times to security and Dan Black about something. The lady next to me though a fan had said something to Coach Rob 😂 Yep. They literally complained about the NOISE. I was sat in amongst it, there was no foul or abusive language. Just friendly banter and noise. A PROFESSIONAL SPORTS TEAM COMPLAINED ABOUT THE NOISE IN THE ARENA. Not used to it in the Morningside Library bless them.

Eagles beat Riders Riders bench complain about the fans happens every time Never any other team never happens when riders are winning The flashpoint was started by Thomas bodycheck on Green : After that it was all Green and Asberry. everyone else was trying to calm stuff down. Nail on the head. Asberry shouting at the disabled section under the basket was very classy too.

To be clear, THE NOISE FANS WERE MAKING WITH THEIR MOUTHS. Not abusive, not swearing, just because they were too loud.

Much easier to go at the old fella sitting with his wife in the wheelchair.

Ah how I miss games like this! What we'd have given out from the Bear cage if someone complained about noise...😂 And it would have continued on into future visits too, the ridicule would have been merciless! Love a bit of argy bargy as long as it doesn't go too far. Players or coaches bitching was like all our birthdays coming at once! One of my favourites was Tony Garbolotto losing it, getting ejected then not being able to open the door to leave. 🤣

Ah the memories. We had a guy playing a bugle, a guy with the loudest 2 finger whistle you've ever heard and a guy with the loudest voice you've ever heard... just imagine what someone complaining about the noise would have endured! But curiously thats one thing that I never saw happen!
You think of some of these big boisterous European crowds with their horns and clackers and drums, oh my. 😃

Love what Rob P and his team bring up here, always competitive.

Class act. Not one complaint.
Mine are tongue in cheek. Best team won.
Don't like Green. Asberry I'm not sure of yet.
Eagles might not be able to play much better than last night. I think we can.
We have the makings of a really good team. Hope Rob can keep most together for 2 seasons.
They will only improve together.

Riders moved the ball better and were generating what I felt was slightly easier offence. Eagles relied on the hot hand a bit, didn't feel sustainable.

To sum it up in a short sentence Rider’s definitely showed a lack of maturity and experience Whilst Eagles were totally opposite.
Oh and Ricky McGill was on fire….
Still can’t stand The poor man’s Rico Alderson Someone tell him to stop letting his daughter do his hair.

Anyone know whatever happened to Rico? There's nothing on Google to dhow him going on to play elsewhere after the BBL. Just seemed to disappear.

The noise at Vertu Motors Arena must not translate on camera. It never sounds especially loud to me when I watch streamed games. About the only thing I notice most of the time is the MC saying 'defense' in a rather monotone voice.
Didn't think the refs did a particularly good job of refereeing the actual basketball in this one. Quite a lot of questionable calls in my estimation, most notably the phantom foul call on the McGill missed layup that had the commentators and just about everyone else scratching their heads. I thought they handled the WWE stuff ok under the circumstances though I did think Austin was a little lucky to come out of it scot-free.
Clearly a lot of people quite enjoyed the 2nd quarter nonsense. I thought it was all a bit ridiculous. You like to see players playing with passion but that's not really what this was. This was two individuals with very large, evidently very fragile egos putting those egos first, to the detriment of their teams. Green was clearly fouled on the loose ball collision with Thomas but his reaction was ludicrous and his foul on Asberry, after the whistle on the following possession was every bit as bad.
As for Asberry, he's just a bomb waiting to go off. If he's going to run his mouth and try to get under the oppositions skin, as he clearly loves to do, he's got to show a lot more maturity and a lot more composure when they eventually retaliate. If he completely loses his rag as he did last night, he's just going to end up shooting himself and his team in the foot. Big job on our hands managing this guy. He has the talent to be really good but he also has the potential to be a massive headache.
As for the actual basketball, disappointed we didn't come away with a result. Neighbour ejected, Green ejected, Johnson on three fouls... Felt like there was quite a lot working in our favour going into the second half. I'm becoming a little frustrated with the way we're using (more like *not* using) our bigs this season. There are a number of quite soft centred teams in the league this year. Teams that don't have much size/strength/depth at the 4/5 spots. In Bridges, Idowu and Walker we have three physical bigs who can all bully guys around in the paint and are all skilled low post scorers. But we don't seem to show much interest at all in getting them the ball in the right spots.
I'm no coaching genius but if you've got a guy who can get his own shot in the post and is shooting 90%(!!!) from the field on the season, I feel like you probably ought to be making him a pretty big part of your offense. Three shots Bridges attempted in this one, in 24 minutes. Meanwhile we have Jaren Holmes making just barely 30% of his 3PA and a paltry 39% of his 2PA, and he's leading the team in minutes per game and shot attempts. Nothing against Jaren... he seems like a hard worker, good teammate, general good egg. But I'm not convinced his play so far is meriting such a large role on the team.
Long story short, I feel like we need to have a bit of a re-think about the way shots are being distributed on this team. It feels a little sub-optimal to me at present.

The BBL feed does a really bad job of translating the noise at the Vertu. It was very loud in there on Friday night, I've just watched the game back this morning and you really don't get a sense of it at all. Not having the commentators in arena has a big impact on this. I can think of lots of Sky games (where the broadcast team are in the arena) over the past 2 seasons where the noise has come across well. With even Dan Routledge and Ant Rowe were missing timeout calls etc because the couldn't hear what was going on.
