Yeah I think we do BBL a dis service if there was actual proper fourth tier type European competition we’d compete well against the Benelux clubs, Austrian, Scandinavians, and some of the less established Central Europe leagues I agree. Too often 'European Basketball' is regarded as superior to the British Basketball League, but it's not that black and white. Yes, there are some European leagues that are of a much higher standard than the BBL, but there are also some that are equal to and worse than. But I don't get what you're saying about if there was a proper fourth tier European competition -there is, it's the FIBA Europe Cup (behind Euroleague, Euro Cup and the FIBA Basketball Champions League), which I think about a third of the BBL teams could be competitive in if they entered. Your not wrong there and to be honest from what I have seen from the teams the Eagles have played so far I think it's only the 1st team we faced that I think were overly challenging for us. CSO Voluntari are topping the group but I didn't even think they were that great when we faced them. From what I seen so far in this league is it is very pot luck as to what your going to get. And clearly since it is an open league with no real qualification doesn't necessarily mean the teams you face will be world beaters. So you really never know whether your played the European BBL equivalent of Riders or Patriots which I suppose is exciting as you never know what to expect. Last night given our challenges and from reading the programme on Liege I expected us to be knocked out in the 1st Quarter. However by the end of the 3rd we were the ones knocking them to the canvas. Whilst I have never heard of the ENBL league before this season. Not only wouldn't suprise me if we enter again but if more BBL clubs don't follow suit in the future especially the ones with arenas like Sheffield, Nix and Caledonia etc... As from a business stand point if their is an opportunity to showcase more basketball at your basketball purpose built venue without running your team into the floor financially then it's probably a good chance to grow your franchise and the league on the continent.

Hmmm, almost certain Nix wouldn't be suitable for such a league, Sheffield and Caledonia perhaps. Nix play in a 1400 seat sports hall set up for basketball, doubtful the revenue would be suffice, could the midweek fixtures draw in full crowds? Even Caledonia aren't filling g their new place midweek yet.

Flyers proved it again tonight. It’s not a PROPER fourth tier competition because it possesses Italian, Spanish, German, Turkish and French teams whose leagues are way at a different level to the rest of Europe. They have qualified despite being as low as 10th in their respective leagues. It seems daft having a competition with such a large gap - albeit fair play to Anwil in Poland what beat the trend

Exactly and I think in terms of getting fans into Euro ball this could be a good way to test the waters and see if we can eventually create a culture where fans might be more tempted to come out for mid week games. Whilst I havent seen the Bristol games from seeing the away venues in the ENBL for the Eagles I thought CSO Voluntaris venue looked like a dump if I'm honest. Or an NBA 2K practice court as opposed to a proffessional arena. Going off that bases I can imagine their isn't much in terms of venue requirements or financials needed in order to play in this league. As opposed to the question on are the teams just not as strong in the league. I'm suprised no one has looked it from the other angle of maybe the BBL teams aren't as bad or as far behind as some of the European leagues after all?

Well seems like even when we win games we seem to try to make it as least comfortable as possible well done Eagles. I will certainly look forward to that huge game against Gora next month in a few weeks and a chance to make club history and qualify for the next round. Keila seemed like a good but also beatable opponent and I felt we had control for most of that game. But we can't keep blowing leads as Although tonight we closed out well we are eventually going to pay for it otherwise and we lost our grip twice in the game after being ahead by a fine margin. However having Josh, Larry and Scott back definitely helped reinforce our team and makes me even more glad we weren't in last week's Trophy Final since it has allowed the team time to recover. Hopefully Neighbour and Whitfield are back soon and we might finally have a full team again. Overall great play against a team that did alot of fouling on us. I was suprised the amount of taps the officials missed but Keila did eventually lose players towards end rightfully so. Apart from that the only other key thing I do think needs the be better is our free throws as we have been poor at those a lot and tonight was quite bad. But for now let's enjoy this win and the fact that we have destiny in our hands going into the final game of the campaign. For those wanting to see what stipulations the ENBL have put it at the bottom of the AI written like match report. www.enbleague.eu/I noticed Liege and Saliu are to playoff next Tuesday who we are tied with on the rankings. If Liege lose that I wonder if that knocks them out of contention?

A comfortable win in the end but we made it hard for ourselves again. Keila were decent and actually had the athletic guards with their Johnson and Kasemets (crazy he's only 21) to actually cause us some problems. They also made some defensive adjustments that really took Austin and Johnson's drives away, and sending Delpeche to the foul line. Their gym is horrendous though, even crappier than Bristols, professional basketball should not be played on multi purpose courts in 2024.

To be honest when watching it on YouTube it looked like a glorified sports hall. But one thing about the ENBL league is it gives you some appreciation for how far the BBL has come. Similar to the BBL I'm sure their a club in a domestic league trying to grow itself and like us they probably entered the league in order to boost their clubs profile. From watching it looked similar to when Lions when they were the MK Lions played at that small gym before the Copperbox, Leicester at the John Sandford Centre and Cheshire at the Northgate arena. They were small and glorified sports halls. Where as now most clubs are playing in basketball built purpose facilities and it gives you a sense of appreciation for our club homes now compared to where they used to be playing? And considering the Eagles, Caledonia, Nix, Sheffield, Leicester and Bristol (eventually) have their own basketball purpose arena. It wouldn't suprise my if more teams play in the ENBL league in future seasons in order to both test themselves but then use it as an excuse to get more basketball being played at their Basketball purpose facility. And as far as away venues go I think Keilas looked a lot better then CSO Voluntari that just looked like an NBA 2K shootaround gym.

Unlike the others listed, Phoenix dont play in their own basketball purpose arena. It's a mile away from the old Northgate Arena but the EPSV is stil a sports hall used for all the usual indoor activities. All the volunteers work Sunday afternoon to tape the lines out, set the technology to run the game, get the seats/ advert boards out and everything else. To be honest as a community club I cant see us owning any type of arena nor considering Europe. However I couldn't see us beating Lions either!

I noticed Liege and Saliu are to playoff next Tuesday who we are tied with on the rankings. If Liege lose that I wonder if that knocks them out of contention? The ENBL report does show that to be the case: Game notes Seriös Group Newcastle Eagles improved to 4-2, while Keila Coolbet dropped to 2-5. Marc Steutel and his men finished 2-2 on the road. They face a decisive game against Zastal Zielona Gora on February 13. The Eagles may advance even earlier if Šiauliai win at Royal Liège Basket on February 7 It also shows Bristol as having already qualified out there group.

Eagles are through to the ENBL playoffs with a game to play as Liege were defeated by Saliu tonight.
I hope we still beat Gora and can improve our standing but atleast now we have atleast 2 more games on our European adventure to look forward too.
It will be ironic if we drew Flyers in the next round.🥳🦅

As I read it we'll either play Bakken Bears or that other black and white team Juventus in the home/away quarter finals. Either way it should be a glorious exit from our first European adventure, or will it ?

As for EuroCup, I can't even watch that anymore. I have cancelled my TNT Sports subscription.

To round this out the final is tonight (YT live stream starts at 6pm) and it's Bakken (who knocked out Eagles in the playoffs and beat Flyers in the group) Vs Voluntari (who beat Eagles in the group). Definitely the two best teams Eagles faced in the competition.
