The scoreboard issue was particularly confusing because there was no commentator. This is quite a new league. I don't want to be too critical, it is a good start and it has a lot of potential. The picture was really good but it could do with a commentator.

Got to admit I didn’t see the game, but how were Newcastle up 4 points after Q1, up 8 points after Q2, up 10 points after Q3… and then lost the game?! Can you have a really good and really bad opening game at the same time?! Green fouled out on a very silly tech and things turned very badly after

Pretty sure the whistle on Eagles' final possession was for a lane violation on Delpeche. I think it was a technically correct call but I'm no refereeing expert. I suspect we'll be hearing from Forrester about it on Sunday. The on screen scoreboard generously awarded the two points to Eagles anyway and showed them 94-92 up for the remainder of the game.
Is McGill playing blindfolded this season. Can't seem to make a shot from anywhere and chucked up some absolute garbage in the bits of this game I saw. More of the same from him Friday please.

McGill has been very poor so far this season. Hopefully getting back to being fully fit, it's still early. I remember his last stint in the BBL with Raiders was similar. He's going to have to accept being backup to JJ and Austin going forward though, I can't see any other option is we want to be competitive. Can't fault his effort (and his willingness to chuck bad shots up at the end of the shot clock) but his shooting has been miles off.

The picture was really good but it could do with a commentator. I've said this elsewhere, but the ENBL request the coverage is provided (by the hosts) without commentary. It allows local commentary to be added on top, if available. That's different to Euroleague/EuroCup where the coverage is produced centrally by the league with English commentary (which can be removed and changed if a local broadcaster wanted to). Back to ENBL, maybe Newcastle will provide English commentary for it's home games and provide the feed on their YouTube channel.

Okay - I wonder what, if anything, happens next? Seems pretty unprecedented for the league to make a comment on a specific call!

Okay - I wonder what, if anything, happens next? Seems pretty unprecedented for the league to make a comment on a specific call! To be honest mate I don't think much would happen other then some small compensation if we are lucky. Just watched the game now. I can't believe we were so close to securing a win and let it get away from us after a huge 4th Quarter meltdown. When we forced Salui to 2 back to back timeouts I generally thought we were going to run away with it. But as we all know sport can be cruel and we failed to capitalise on this one. Hopefully for the next game at home on Halloween we can secure a win and atleast we didn't embarrass ourselves. Given the size of that team I'm impressed we managed to even run with them as it looked like Dwarves against Giants to begin with. As for the feed situations like the above certainly made me miss having commentators and I hope for our games at home we atleast have someone commenting on the game. It was frustrating trying to get whether a tech, review or unsportmans was called.

Why acknowledge it if you're not going to do anything about it? And if you're going to review that decision what about every other contentious call in a game?!

To be honest I would love to see the BBL officials put out a statement like this. I reckon their'd be almost one every week. 🤣 On another note speaking if Europe what is going on wit Bristol right now? We've talked up the Eagles, Glads and the Lions but not heard much mention on what the Flyers are doing?

Delpeche was in the paint for more than three seconds. That part is pretty cut and dried I think. What advantage was gained and when he 'attempted to leave' would appear to be the points of contention. To me it seems like a badly worded rule that's too open to individual interpretation. A bit like the handball rule in football. I suppose what you would say in this instance is that it was a pretty quick whistle and, in clutch situations, that's probably a call you really don't want to be making unless it's completely unavoidable. I don't see there was a need for the league to put out a statement about it. Particularly a factually incorrect statement. It's hardly a Liverpool/Spurs level cock-up. To be honest I would love to see the BBL officials put out a statement like this. I reckon their'd be almost one every week. 🤣 If you believe everything you hear about basketball refereeing, there should be a handful of statements like this made about every game. If you believe everything you hear about basketball refereeing the sport is terribly officiated at all levels, all over the world, week in week out. Personally I'm a bit sick of refereeing being made the story of damn near every basketball game that's ever played. It's all become rather tiresome in my view.

Bristol haven't played a game yet - their first is tomorrow night. The ENBL scheduling is a little all over the place, some teams haven't played a game yet, whilst others have played 3.

Congratulations to Bristol who coped comfortably in Bulgaria to get their first European win. Greene was dominant. The gym looked smaller than SGS.

I think ENBL is very much a 'gateway' league into Europe. Something teams experiment with, with the possibility of one of the Euroleague or FIBA leagues in the future. Great to see Bristol get a win.

The gym looked smaller than SGS. Lovely building isn't it. Would look right at home in Chernobyl. Not to piss on Bristol's bonfire too much as a comfortable road win is obviously a nice way for them to kick off the competition. But that was hardly a step up from the BBL was it. Probably the worst team in the group I reckon. Quite a broad cross section of teams in the ENBL. The best sides are good enough to have deep runs in Europe Cup, potentially even win it. The worst sides really aren't very good at all.

Good win for Eagles against Brno, although I don't think Brno were up to much. Attendance was a bit lower than usual, but still pretty full and a good atmosphere.

Away win for Eagles against Latvian side Valmerias who didn't really seem very good. Some good stuff for Eagles, some not so good stuff.
