To be honest this already has me excited for pre season and I hope we announce out fixtures soon. I'd like to think if the Eagles are planning on going into Europe then surely for pre season we will be looking at facing some continental opponents as preparation as well.

I shouldn't imagine Neighbour is the exciting crowd pleaser everard was referring to... is he?

Or the return of Fletch ? That would be a crowd pleaser ! It certainly would be and again another reason why the Eagles need to do another Hall of Fame induction at some point. Although after googling Fletch according to Real GM it appears Fletcher now has a job working as the Director of player development at the Green Bay Phoenix which looks like a College basketball side if im not mistaken.

I reckon that Fletch is done with playing and living in the UK. He has had his time enjoying himself and now it's time to get a " proper" job. Good luck to him.

Tut. Green Bay is Fletcher's alma mater. Shame on any Eagles fan for not knowing that. Honestly! And yes, it was announced a while ago that he'd taken up some sort of player development role there. I'm pretty sure his days of urrrr pleasing Geordies are over. Plus everard said it was a big. Fletcher is rather small. UWGB men's basketball adds Rahmon Fletcher to Phoenix coaching staff

No way is he turning his back on that for another BBL job, barring a megabucks offer.

I've no idea whether it's a well paid job tbh but I'm pretty sure it means his playing days are over.

Larry Austin Jnr! Very exciting signing, and again, probably one of the best realistic signings Eagles could have made for a sure thing in the BBL.

Looks like Steutel's putting a premium on experience and players who have a proven track record.

Interesting, a new era for these players, welcome to the Newcastle Phoenix!!!
He'll definitely liven up the crowd and fill those few empty seats for you.

I agree as I said on the other page last night I would love to see him at Newcastle. We'll need his grit and determination to fight to the end it we are going to do well this year. Interestingly no new unknown players so far. I wonder if after last season Stetuel has decided to go for more of a roster that is known and familiar to the BBL. I suppose it makes sense if he is wanting to avoid last year's revolving door pattern.

We've got a proper sponsor for the first time in multiple (4?) seasons so perhaps thats part of it. I can still see some rookies coming in too but at least the pressure won't be there for them.

It really does seem like avoiding last season's recruitment embarrassment is very much at the forefront of the club's thinking this summer. Possibly too much so. Are Eagles planning to do any actual recruitment this off season? Or are we literally going to be looking at a squad comprised exclusively of established BBL players taken from other teams?

"One of head coach Steutel’s priorities during the close-season is to build a dynamic roster around a core of proven BBL players" from the Delpeche signing press release. So yeah there will be unknown players/rookies more than likely, but if there going down the road of a full roster churn (less Darius) again it doesn't seem feasible to do that with new to the league players given the extra games in Europe and embarrassment of last season.

We're looking good so far however I hope we don't end up looking like that London Team back in 2014 I believe that consisted of Zaire Taylor, Drew Sullivan and Alex Owunmi that looked like super BBL team on paper and then became a bunch of individuals.
