Hi guys does anyone know if the BBL will be on Sky Sports again next season? I like to think it will be and I know the season only just recently ended although I remember immediately after the BBL playoff Final last year they said they were coming back the following year as they had the contract renewed.
Unless I am missing something I wondered what might be happening with this?

I know the Fixtures we only announced last week but given all the hype about triple viewing figures and the change in formats.
I'm baffled as to why we haven't had any announcement on whether the BBL will be back on Sky next season or if the teams competing in Europe will be on main stream TV aswell?
I suppose I could understand before the fixtures were announced why their was no news. Although now it's been over a week since the fixture release and 3 weeks until the start of the season I would have expected them to announce the TV schedule for which games they plan on showcasing.
I'm also hoping BBL TV remains the same so I can continue to follow the Eagles away matches as well.

I will probably subscribe to Euroleague TV again because I don't have any confidence any of our sports broadcasters will pick that up. And I have no idea how we can watch ENBL.

I'm pretty sure last season they had the TV coverage from the very beginning of the season in September? And with all the boasting about viewing figures I would have thought the same would have happened again. I noticed some of the Eagles home tips are at 19:45 including our first game against Sharks which made me wonder if that was possibly the first televised game of the season. Now I have a feeling that maybe we are just experimenting with tip times or something. As for Europe, the Fiba World Cup starts tommorow yet once again not a single match anywhere on the TV scheduling not even the later stage games. Given some of the minor sports they show on TV I'm surprised they couldn't get a few games on Eurosport or TNT but hey ho.

Scorchers have just announced one of their games has been moved to Friday at 19:45 - I had assumed it was a TV coverage thing ... but if so, very peculiar nothing's been announced yet.
Tbh the start of this season feels like a bit of a mess.

I think every game apart from the 3 finals were on Friday nights last season. To be honest I wouldn't mind clubs trying a Thursday night slot possibly as it would clash with less football except for Champions League and Europa league.

Hi everyone, I'm back from my annual summer break from these forums. Regarding the BBL on Sky Sports, some of you might remember I have quite good knowledge of/contacts within the media and broadcasting and from what I've heard the BBL will be back on Sky Sports this season. Nothing is confirmed yet, wait for an official announcement for that, but it's my understanding that the first game of the new season - Newcastle v Sheffield on Thursday 14th September will be live on Sky Sports. I believe it'll be scheduled on Sky Sports Mix - which only requires a standard Sky subscription. Not sure about Sky Sports YouTube, but I'd take a guess that it will be. I'm also hearing Thursday nights are to become 'BBL on Sky Sports' night (not Friday nights as per previous seasons), but again wait for that to be confirmed before it's official. In terms of BBL coverage this season we're going to be seeing a lot of changes, but that'll all become clear in due course.

Thursdays eh....I like it
Fridays often clashed with some form of football or rugby or even other BBL games!
Saying that there is still lesser European football on Thursdays (although not on Sky)

I wish it hadn't taken them so long but I think it's great and perhaps a different night might work out well or just as good. I wonder what other games will be scheduled for tv this season.

Have a look at the league’s fixtures… there’s generally only one game each Thursday night - those will be the Sky games.

Aaron Radin just confirmed this on a livestream on the British Basketball League YouTube channel. Worth a watch if it's still available.

I wonder if their going for Thursday nights as well in order to drum up more viewers from current BBL fans. I mean considering that a lot of clubs tend to play on Friday night and as an Eagles fan. If the Eagles were playing in the non Sky game on the Friday at home then I would usually record the Sky game and watch it the following day. Whereas if you put it on Thursday night as the only BBL game on. Then it means asides from the 2 teams facing off as a neutral spectator I'm more likely to tune into it Live unless I have something else on that evening.

With an additional TV timeout each quarter (who on earth asked for that?) the chances are that Thursday night games will still be going on by Friday night. Lots of grumbles at Newcastle last night about how long the whole thing was dragging on, mainly from the very younger fans we’re trying to attract…….
Time to think through that one again?

Sounds like a game to record and watch back later. The dragged out nature of basketball is definitely a barrier to attracting fans to the venue.

It's one of the reasons I prefer watching NBA matches on record rather then Live. As with all the time outs I can just fast forward and it keeps the game flowing.

I can think of only benefits to moving the BBL on Sky Sports to Thursday. As you say, it’ll likely attract more existing BBL fans to the broadcast as there aren’t any other games to go to/watch on YouTube as was previously the case. But also there’s generally less live sports on a Thursday night, and more people are at home, so that should attract a few more viewers too. It’ll take a bit of getting used to, but I think it’s a smart move. As for the additional TV timeout per quarter, that was asked for by Sky. Or at least to make the coverage more appealing to Sky.

See below comments from Mark Woods on X/twitter.
Replying to @markbritball Aaron Radin reveals one game a week on Sky Sports on Thursday or Friday nights and suggests the BBL will appear on a couple of regional outlets in the USA.
Test show was hosted by ex-athlete turned broadcaster Jeanette Kwakye ---- Details emerging of BBL’s new broadcasting which had a low-key test on YouTube tonight - NBC regular Todd Harris is the presumed new lead voice of the league with a commentary line-up which will be heavily North American-accented. ----- Also, as documented by @shieldsbrief , BBL adding 90 sec TV timeouts - which will add to concerns from some clubs over impact on family audiences of later finishes.
I really hope this is not the end of Dan Routledge, he is the best basketball commentator in my opinion and he has a fantastic knowledge of British basketball at all levels.

Oh dear. Don’t get me wrong, I love a bit of expert analysis with an American accent, but as a Brit I really don’t want my BBL commentary to be exclusively North American and as someone who’s been around the game for a long time I think the historical knowledge of the British game that people like Dan bring its them is a real plus point.
