A funny one from London this weekend...A member of the crowd shouted so loudly after a bad call that the refs though it was the bench at gave them a technical, turns out it was Luke Nelsons father! The T was reversed That's is a funny story. đŸ˜„ Imagine the amount of crowd techs and ejections you would have given at the Eagles during some of our glory seasons. It would probably take an hour just to get through a Quarter.

Another week, another game Giants should win comfortably where they make heavy weather of it through static offence and too much hero ball. Just stop after stop in Qs 3 and 4. That said, a nice change to see them win with good defence, although Sharks were poor apart from Nelson. Something just feels not right in Giants offence at the moment. Feels like Fletcher and Williams still haven't gelled and both want the same space - one to shoot, the other to drive. Think Vince has a big decision for next year as the team might be better with one or the other. Similarly, Green remains an very good player in this league, but has lost some of the bite and edge that made him standout at the start of the year. Wouldn't be surprised if he's sat on a good offer from a league like Hungary or Poland and playing just hard enough to not get injured. I think before Vince has to worry about decision on team - whoever is really pulling the strings in the background needs to makes some decisions and sort the funding. Was saying to someone the other day that it is weird watching a giants home game as can look just like a local league game with the players sitting right onto the court and no advertising boards - and could they not just have one less row of seats and leave space for boards like all other BBL games do. Then noticed on the game there that there shirt is plain as - just says Giants, no sponsors on the shirt and realised that will be why no boards in front of the team benches - no sponsors to put on the boards I now assume? and what with the awkward placed black cloth on the scorers table - I assume that on the LHS of the table is something like a BE log they want to cover up and just have the words Manchester visible? wee presentation things point to bigger things not in place in the backroom still and would be worrying more about that first than who Vince needs to decide if gel or not for asking back for next season. Hopefully they will have the structure, sposnors and all backroom stuff in place and build again soon.

Tbf it’s year one for Vince and he has a track record of attracting finance, so fingers crossed on that front.

As has been alluded to by others, I think off court matters are perhaps what's most important for Giants at the moment rather than on court. I actually think Vince is doing a decent job, considering they're (as an organisation) a bit of a rudderless ship. They've got a good core of a team there and it probably just needs a couple pieces around the edges to have a really good team. I'm slightly more worried by the thin looking crowds and lack of any noticeable sponsor logos. A BBL club really should work in Manchester, it just needs the right ownership.

Is there any clarity on who the ownership group are and what's actually going on? End of last season players weren't getting paid and that nutjob fantasist Jamie Edwards seemed to have the club teetering on the edge of bankruptcy with unpaid tax bills etc.

I'd imagine they've invested in this pretty stacked team to try and show what is possible in Manchester from BBL standpoint. I would say it's only going OK so far.

Totally agree that a club can and should work here with the right infrastructure and ownership. If the club is being propped up by the league and Aaron Radin is worth his salt, then he should be finding a buyer for them. Feels in 777's interest too, right? They grow this league through better competition, and that means investment. Glasgow are on the right track with Steve Timoney, and Manchester is the right next market with the infrastructure in place, and a sports mad population. I recall Vince did a really broad ranging interview with the BBL Show where he talked about this being a three year project, and that some of that was as much about building the club's place in the community and attracting finance. They've made some small steps, but it does feel like there's so much on their doorstep - massive fashion brands like Boohoo and Castore; huge businesses with a track record of sports sponsorship like AO and AJ Bell. Easy for me to point out, harder to secure, but doesn't feel like rocket science... He also made very airy allusions to someone pump priming the wage bill for this year which a lot of folk speculated was the Turkish lot from Plymouth. Just as likely to be the BBL putting him in there to stabilise and sell as others have suggested. Very interested to see what's next - and just hope it is a club continuing to exist. As for on-court - the team just feels less than the sum of its parts right now. They're a couple of solid bench role players short (of the Conner Washington, Fraser Malcolm or Blake Bowman level even), and the main guys look increasingly tired through workload. Stand by my comment on Dirk and Rahmon though - they want the same space on the court and it hasn't clicked.

I guess they're probably starting from scratch with Giants as far as their community programs are concerned. For me this is the most important thing to get right if they want to emulate the succes in Leicester and Newcastle. Sponsorship and everything is that bit easier once you've got bums on seats, you can't do that consistently without a vibrant community scene.
It might be a bit harder in Manchester, as there is an already established, if fragmented, basketball scene there who might not like someone else trying to get a piece of the pie. Everything that happens to do with youth basketball in Newcastle, Gateshead, South Tyneside, North Tyneside and Northumberland us under the watch of the Eagles. If Giants could achieve that, they're on to a winner.

Of all the BBL cities Manchester looks like the most attractive for an investor. Excellent venue, big sports-loving city, good club brand with a bit of history, and a strong squad that’s maybe 3 players off being a very good team. If I was a billionaire buying a world famous football club in Manchester I think I would want to buy a little basketball club as well.

If I was a billionaire buying a world famous football club in Manchester I think I would want to buy a little basketball club as well. already been there, tried, failed and moved on plus any spare change MU have after sorting out their stadium, their squad and their debt will be passed to their women's side. Adding a loss making, time consuming medium term project (I use those words based on the LDN project) wont be on the radar.
