Jeez, what is it with this franchise? They part ways with Steve Nash and are replacing him with...Ime Udoka. Yep. It's like they enjoy the chaos or something!

Tough one, he’s a very talented coach and was very well respected. He was always going to get a good job but I didn’t expect it to be so soon, and I agree it’s probably not a great look him joining the Nets circus but people will stop caring by all star break I bet

Well he's now been suspended for at least 5 games but similar to Udoka in Boston, it's hard to see Irving returning to the Nets now. They are clearly vindicated in their decision not to give him an extension in the summer. Nothing but trouble and seems to get worse every year.

A very comfortable, 25 point, win for Nuggets overnight, with the starting five all playing under 30 minutes. Bones Hyland was the star off the bench, with good contributions from Demarcus Jordan, Ben Brown and Christian Braun.
It's good to watch a team focused style of basketball, where the players involved work to help each other play better.

Yeah just watched the highlights of that game, what a great game winner by Fox! He must have been 40 feet out! It's funny how sometimes the most non-descript of games like Magic v Kings can turn into one of the most thrilling of the season.
Bucks off to a great start but also Cavs and Suns (who I may have misjudged in saying their window was closed!) Funny how the Nets are suddenly winning with Kyrie gone!

Just been reading on ESPN about the race to the bottom for Wenbayama. I didn't realise that the Pelicans will get the Lakers pick, so they must be loving how badly their season is going! Imagine Zion and Wenbayama on the same team!😱
Also amusingly, Utah, the team that looked like it had been designed to tank, is proving way too good to join this race, but they got Minnesota's pick and they are looking dire right now. What great irony if Utah wound up with the pick despite having NOT tanked!
Speaking of Minnesota...I fear Chris Finch may be on the hot seat if they don't start winning soon.

Jeremy playing point guard for the Spurs tonight, like he’s literally bringing the ball up every possession and then guarding Steph Curry and Poole at the other end, it’s not going well unsurprisingly, but a fantastic learning opportunity for him and shows the confidence Pop has in him

Big poster dunk for Jeremy, had 9 assists in his last 2 games

I think the point is he's doing enough to get minutes and stay in the league. So many draft picks don't make the cut in the end, it looks like he is going to. Playing for Pop is also probably the best thing that could happen to any rookie. Who you want drafting you? The Knicks so you can play at MSG? The Lakers for the glitz and glamour? No, guys who are serious about their game want to go play for Pop and have the best chance possible to develop into decent NBA players.

I see the NBA has brought out a load more trophies mainly named after people from the dim and distant past. I mean seriously, they have brought out 6 divisional trophies and a leagues best record trophy. It just seems very pointless and try-hard, like someone has gone "oh my god, we must get trophies in place to honour all these people!" and they mean nothing.
The NBA has never operated like the BBL has where the best record in the league is seen as anything special. It merely guarantees home court advantage throughout the playoffs and that's basically all it is seen as good for. Even on Around the Horn today they were very dismissive of it, saying only 2 of the last 10 teams with the best record have gone on to win the championship, which is obviously what matters to them.

An excelelnt game between Portland and DEnver overnight, with Denver winning by 1 point after been 10 points dows after the 3rd quarter. The winning shot was from Jamal Murray, whose still returning to full fitness after his ACL injury. Back to back two time NBA MVP Nicola Jokic scored over 30 points and was on assist short of a triple double. Was also good to see Nuggets first round pick Colin Braun get plenty of minutes and make a big contribution to the win.

But I noticed they lost by 1 to Dallas as well a few days ago! I guess splitting two close games like that is probably fair. I like what the pelicans are doing too at the moment. Good to see new teams emerging as contenders.

DEnver had a 3 game losing streak, so the win at Portland was needed. They have been struck quite badly with injuries and illness this season, with several players missing games due to Covid and injuries. The Western conferance seems to be very close this season, with no stand out teams, at this stage.

Just noticed NBA games on Christmas Day

The NBA always plays on Xmas day, this year the NFL will have games too.
It would be impossible in the UK as everything is shut, and no rail transport on boxing day, even if they weren't on strike!

For some people the season begins at Christmas but I disagree. You look at the standings now, how different will they be in April? Not massively. First part of the season is where you see who the best teams are going to be. For example everyone thought the Pacers and Jazz would suck but we've seen enough now to know they are pretty good. Injuries or a huge collapse aside, they'll both make the playoffs.

Another slew of trophies being named after past greats has been announced, headlined by the Michael Jordan MVP award.
Now that one I do agree with. I was wondering what they were going to do to name something suitable after MJ. I wondered if they were holding off due to his ongoing involvement in the league but this is the right call. Ok, Kareem was a 6 time MVP but he played 20 years, Jordan played 14 I believe, including the 2 in Washington. He was injured for practically an entire season early on in his career so not counting that one in the total.
So yeah, makes sense to me and is an appropriate honour. The rest of them are more 'meh' but I guess it's nice. Olajuwon getting the defensive player trophy is quite nice. Wilt for rookie of the year? Maybe, he had an outrageous rookie season but I might have went with Tim Duncan to keep it modern. Duncan was unanimously selected for the award so it would make sense.

The reason they gave it to MJ over Kareem has nothing to do with his longevity it’s because Lebrun is about to surpass him in points in the regular season and they’d look stupid for giving an MVP award to someone in 2nd place.
These awards lose their meaning being named after players imo

Might be that too. Or might be that Kareem has a reputation for whining and being critical of the league. I always thought it was a nice touch having the finals MVP named after Bill Russell, but yeah there are so many trophies now all named after people, it definitely feels quite hollow.
