It is amazing what they earn now. Reading the Jordan Rules book, there's a lot of talk about contracts and guys not wanting to be paid less than certain other guys, etc. In 1990 Scottie Pippen was getting $750k a year. A really good deal was something like $5M over 4 years. Even MJ himself was only on about $3M a year as the best player in the league. It obviously ramped up in the 90s and the book does touch upon a TV deal that massively increased revenue and wages, screwing over anyone who'd signed a contract not long before it came into force.
But even so, now guys are getting utterly ridiculous money, plus endorsement deals on top! Bradley Beal just signed a 5 year, $250M deal to stay in Washington and the pundits were discussing if it was a good move or not. Tim Legler said he'll be irrelevant now and won't get a championship, but Kendrick Perkins said guys should always go get as much money as they can and winning titles isn't the only thing for some players. For me it kind of gets lost a bit, I mean sure its more money but if you could get say, $200M and go to a better team, are you really going to miss the difference? What does $250M (plus what he's already earned over 10 years) get you that $200M doesn't?

Gobert traded to Minnesota, that shakes things up in the west. Be interesting to see how he plays alongside Towns. Will anyone get a rebound against those two?!With Edwards as well that's a great core and I expect them to comfortably make the playoffs.Utah acquire loads of pics and role players as Danny Ainge takes the Sam Presti approach to rebuilding, although they still have Mitchell but I wonder if he might get traded too?

So we've had our first look at the top 3 picks in the summer league. Delighted that Holmgren has impressed and looks good. As they said on Around the Horn, he's skinny but he's not going to be asked to bang in the paint or do things a stronger guy might do. And guys like KD and Reggie Miller are/were skinny and it hasn't mattered. So I feel very confident about this guy developing into a star.
Meanwhile Banchero outplayed Smith Jr last night to perhaps help justify going first. Early days of course!

Jeremy making friends in the NBA already
Playing a guessing game and Responded to the hint ‘russell Westbrook gets a lot of them’ with the answer ‘bricks’
It was definitely just shouting the first thing that came to his mind and I think it’s absolutely hilarious but there are people that are really not happy about it lol

LeBron has signed a 2 year extension with the Lakers, player option for 24-25 (presumably in case Bronny gets drafted and he wants to go play with that team). This all but guarantees he's going to pass Kareem for the scoring title. It may well happen next season anyway. His longevity and still being elite at this stage of his career is absolutely incredible.

Lebron has played 19 seasons so far, this extension takes him to 21 completed seasons and i agree with Sam he'll play 1 more year with whoever drafts Bronny taking his tally to a whopping 22 years! Unreal really.
If you google oldest goat who ever lived its 22 years. Coincidence? I think not

It's been done before but the lads who did it were shells of their former selves by the final couple of years. Dirk and VC spring to mind. LeBron is still a top 5 player or at least top 10. He may experience a sudden and sharp decline but it's usually pretty gradual, which suggests by season 22 he might still be capable of 10ppg or something. That would set all sorts of records for players over 40.

So Durant has agreed to 'move forward' with the Nets. Be interesting to see what happens now - hard to imagine it will be plain sailing. I think if anything, the Nets will look to move Irving during the season. A lot may depend on whether Simmons (a) shows up to work and (b) can still play at a high level. If he can do both, the Nets should be a very good team and winning often fixes other problems that may be going on.

I might try to watch a few Nuggets games depending on the start times. supporting a Western Conference side isn't good for an insomniac :-)

Yep it has always been and always will be a problem - especially when I was a Seattle fan. Nuggets should be elite this season with Murray coming back and the West not looking all that strong for once. I think the Suns are in turmoil and their window of opportunity is closed. That just leaves the Warriors, maybe Dallas, maybe Memphis - but I think Denver is more established and 'ready' than those teams to do some damage. And the Clippers IF they can stay healthy, big if.
With Holmgren lost for the season I'm eyeing up the Wenbanyama draft for OKC! Imagine him and Holmgren along with the other young talent already there, in say, 2025...holy championship Batman!

As a night shift worker I’m buzzing, gives me something to pass the time almost every night now, I’ve bought a tablet to watch the games on as well so I’m definitely ready

An excelent win for the Nuggets at Golden State tonight, going ahead in the first quarter and never trailing. A triple double from Jokic, with good support from MPJ and Aaron Gordon, and very impressive contributions from the bench, including over 20 minutes from the rookie Colin Braun. Jamel Murray wasn't playing, as Nuggets manage his return from his ACL injury.

A good win especially coming off an embarrassing loss to Utah, no one saw that coming! Unless the jazz will be better than expected.
The best game so far has to be Memphis-New York. Great drama and Morant had several spectacular plays. That guy is by far the most exciting player in the league now.

Another full schedule of games tonight, including the Nuggets home opener v OCK at 2:30 in the morning. Murray will play, so giving Nuggets a 10 man rotation.

Should be a Nuggs win but I did think the thunder kept up well with Minnesota the other night, just losing it in the last 2 minutes. It will be another long season but you have to love the young talent we have. SGA, Giddey in particular. Then Holmgren and another high pick next year. It's a really solid rebuild.
