SASKATOON, SK - The Saskatchewan Rattlers , member club of the Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL), are excited to announce the signing of Canadian guard, Devontè Bandoo, ahead of the 2021 CEBL season. The combo guard will make his professional debut for the Rattlers when they kick off their season on June 7 against the Edmonton Stingers .
Bandoo joins the Rattlers after a stellar collegiate career that culminated with him playing his final two years of eligibility at Baylor University. In his senior year with the Bears, Bandoo was named the Big 12 Conference Sixth Man of the Year due to his impressive play coming off the bench. During the 2019-20 season, Bandoo helped the Bears achieve a school-record 23-game winning streak which earned Baylor a No. 1 ranking for five-straight weeks. In his final year with the Bears, Bandoo shot a team-leading 38.5 percent from three-point range and averaged 7.6 points and 3.6 rebounds during a shortened season. Over the course of his two years with Baylor University, the Mississauga, ON-native averaged 8.1 points, 2.8 rebounds and 1.4 assists. Prior to transferring to Baylor, Bandoo played two years for Hutchinson Community College in Kansas. The 6-foot-3 guard helped Hutchinson Community College claim the 2017 NJCAA Division 1 national championship, where he scored a season-high and team-leading 22 points in the championship game against Eastern Florida State College.
“Devontè is someone we are really looking forward to having join our team for the upcoming season”, said Rattlers General Manager Barry Rawylk . “In Devontè we have another weapon that can open up opposing defences not only with his impressive three-point shooting rate, but also with his ability to get to the basket. He will not only bring incredible athleticism and shot-making ability to our team, but he is also someone who will integrate nicely into the community. We are excited to see Devontè take the next step in his career here in Saskatchewan with the Rattlers.”

The 6’3″ sharpshooter was Baylor’s leading three-point shooter as a junior, going 39% from behind the arc. Bandoo shot 66% from deep in his first NCAA tournament appearance, a win over the prestigious Syracuse University.
“I’m excited to join the Riders organisation, and to be able to play with new teammates and coaches,” said Bandoo.
“We are looking forward to working with Devonte. He is an exciting, explosive player who can make plays in many different ways,” commented head coach Rob Paternostro.
“Devonte’s ability to shoot the ball off the catch or off the dribble from distance is really impressive and should be a welcome addition to our club.
“He had a very good summer in Canadian CEBL, where he was able to showcase both his playmaking and scoring against high-level talent”
Bandoo will look to suit up for the Riders for their upcoming BBL Trophy clash against the Manchester Giants.

Manna from heaven if he fulfils his potential. Will add to our 3 point shooting arsenal as well as bolster us in the back court. Great we finally moved to resolve the issue with Thornton. Exciting prospect.

Great news. I was worried the BBL Cup final could be a bit one sided. This should even things up a bit.

Looks like a quality player, and definitely the sort I'd like Sharks to sign. No doubt Rob has a plan, but he looks more like a shooter than a distributer from the stats so I'm interested in seeing if he takes good shots away from the likes of Whelan, Jackson and Loving... Another Canadian special for Rob - he must have good connections up there

Having watched the scouting video and read his stats this guy looks as if he could be a really important, versatile addition to our roster. Don't want to get ahead of myself because I thought that about Thornton, especially after his first game. Nevertheless, there's no doubting he looks very talented and my favourite part of the video report was the assists section. Makes me optimistic he'll do well for Riders.

Looks a high quality player. Big 12 sixth man of the year. The same award Jaysean Paige won a few years ago. He did alright in the bbl. Tarik Philip also a recent winner. Jeremy Sochan won it last year. Not an award that's just given out to anyone. His numbers in Canada are also favourable compared to all the other guys that have played ovet there and in the bbl over the last couple of years.
Basically, he looks like he could be an elite player in this league. Hopefully he is able to come in and do the business.
Be interested too see how we line up. Assume he will come off the bench on Sunday. But after that? Do they go without a PG or does one of Bandoo, Whelan or Jackson come off the bench.

Bit of a strange one in my opinion. Pretty good CV for this level I guess though I'm not entirely sure what to make of the CEBL. Certainly plenty of evidence to suggest he's a very good shooter but we weren't exactly light in that area anyway. Whelan has been probably the best in the league the last year and a half. Jackson is having an excellent season and is shooting north of 40% from deep. Loving is a bit streaky but he's a weapon when he gets going. Conner has been one of the most reliable shooters in the BBL for about a decade now. Kimbal's solid. Long story short we weren't lacking shooters. What we lack is a top drawer out and out PG and strength/depth at the 4/5 spots. And I'm not too sure this signing does a huge amount to remedy that. I'm thinking Bandoo might be a better scorer off the dribble than some of the names above but 2 assists per game doesn't suggest he's a brilliant facilitator.
We obviously weren't getting a ton from Thornton so it's not like there are big shoes to fill here. If this guy turns out to be a good player he should have some sort of positive impact on the team regardless. But I'm not convinced he's an ideal fit. Feels to me like we're adding to a strength here and not necessarily doing a massive amount to address our weaknesses.

He may not be the pure PG that would have addressed a weakness but he may well be an addition that improves the team and our ability to win games. If nothing else he looks like an exciting player we could at least enjoy watching on court and God knows that was lacking with Thornton. If he's a good defender then he will be better than Thornton, who seemed to let virtually everyone slip straight by him OR he'd foul them on the way so he then had to warm the bench. At this moment I'm just glad we have something positive to look forward to. We were struggling against several teams (partly because of injuries) but he adds firepower and a scoring threat that Thornton didn't have in the end. He was a one-trick pony with his drive to the basket but not much else. Bandoo will offer more I reckon.

He will have done it with a plan on how we make it all work
