Well it's international break time so I thought I would make a thread for the upcoming Team GB matches.
11th November 2022 vs Serbia at home 19:00pm in Newcastle.🇷🇸
14th November 2022@Latvia 17:30pm 🇱🇻
In the previous window before Eurobasket we were defeated 72-57 @belgium and 87-70 against the Lativians at home in August. Although I imagine this time since its during the domestic season the squads for all teams will differ slightly.
Go Team GB! 🏀🇬🇧

GB without Ovie and Hesson 😭 Luke Nelson struggling for form somewhat and Teddy recently returning from injury. Could be a chance for other to step up perhaps, could be a disaster
Confirmed Serbia without Micic, Guduric and Lucic (Euroleague fixtures) and their NBA players (obviously).

According to Fiba Serbia are ranked 6th best in the world and there national team is nicknamed Eagles. Which is ironic as this will be the first time I will be going to the arena and not wanting an Eagles win. Whilst I doubt it I wonder if any broadcaster will televise it for free. It would have been a treat if the Sky Sports production were able to televise this game as a one off.

Probably our weakest 12 for some time on paper. No Hesson or Soko is a big blow. Serbia i think will handle us comfortably, even without their euroleague/nba guys.

Interesting that in other threads comments are made about Lions struggling in the PG position and that the ones they have are not really up to the job. However the same players are still confirmed as in the 12 representing GB tonight. Hmmmmm, but where are the alternatives ready to step up and replace out of form regulars.

Is this game available anywhere to watch? Only on FIBA’s Courtside 1891 streaming service (awful name for a streaming service by the way!). A subscription is required.

Is this game available anywhere to watch? I am watching on Bet365, you need to register and have money in your account. I have £20 in mine and you can withdraw it anytime. I also have a Google Chrome extension call fullscreenanything which lets me view the normal small viewing window as full screen, which I then cast to my TV. Hope this helps.

Well it was a good atmosphere tonight but sadly not enough for Team GB. To many turnovers and a flat 3rd Quarter was what costed us tonight.
Although the Serbians clearly showed us why they are the 6th best team in the world for basketball. Whilst they didn't have their top players they certainly had a good mix of fast guys as well as well built bigs that were difficult to defend which made it a challenge for Team GB.
I would have liked to have seen more of our newer players mixed into the 2nd half so I could see more what they can do. But they're were some strong performances from Nelson, Olaseni and Williams. And great to see Mockford back out and hopefully back on court for the Eagles next weekend to.
On to Lativia now I suppose. Perhaps without Portzingas maybe we might be able to steal a victory in that one.

Very close - a few empty seats in north stand, and plenty of noisy Serbian fans

I wouldn't have put Carl Wheatle a my choice of a GB point guard, obviously the coach(es) though he was a safer bet than Van Ooustrum with his 40+ caps.

Van Ooustrum was awful when he played and Dwayne L-O not much better. We've been really struggling to fill the void left by Teddy and Tarik Philip not being fit for the last few months. It's rather unbelievable we are becoming (somewhat) spoilt for choice with bigs but struggling for a PG.

It's just possible that not only are some of the "name" players not as good as their reputations suggest, but that they are not very good playing in a team together.
It's also possible that GB actually need better coaching from a coach and assistants who are used to building winning programs.

It's also possible that GB actually need better coaching from a coach and assistants who are used to building winning programs. If that is the question then who would you have take over and would they accept the mantle? Bearing in mind that GB has no NBA players and gets minimal backing from Sport England and UK Sport it can be difficult to build a winning programme. The problem for GB is even when we win games such as qualifiers and friendlies at the main events such as Eurobasket and the Olympics we tend to get massacred once teams bring in their NBA players in the summer. Unlike a domestic league team a coach can be limited to who they can have based on citizenship. And as highlight through constant criticism of Basketball England and lack of organisation such as the last window when our qualifiers ended up also being our pre eurobasket warm up. Then it's hard to blame just the coaching staff alone. Plus again not every player can or even want to turn up for GB sometimes which is similar to all countries. However no matter the result I usually always admire and sometimes feel bad if we lose for the players who do show up and dedicate themselves to the programme. Although that being said getting selected to play for your country at any level or in any Sport should always be considered a huge honour regardless.

It's also possible that GB actually need better coaching from a coach and assistants who are used to building winning programs. The coaches are all volunteers. What exactly do/would you expect when our players aren't as good as the opposition. The first choice 8 of (mostly) Philip, Nelson, Hesson, Soko, Olaseni, Okerafor, Clark, Mockford are/were a very good team to a point. Excellent victories in qualifying for EuroBasket. Not surprised we're struggling with so many of those players missing and Clark now retired.
