Scorchers still find a way to win away from home despite shooting just 2 from 20 from the 3 point line!!!
Two best players on the court were from Scorchers
Wang is top quality
And Quincy Taylor showed his class as well
Eagles look very very mediocre

Well I'm honestly lost for words! Firstly well played to Surrey Scorchers and Lloyd Gardner. Eagles tonight were bad in the first half and at times careless on defence. As painful as it is to admit we didn't deserve it tonight.
After that performance as well I certainly expect this Scorchers team to pick up more wins over the course of the season. And for Scorchers fans I hope some home W's too.
As for Eagles I think I'm at a loss now for expectations. Whilst I certainly think we are a better team to watch then last season. I'm afraid it looks like we're going to struggle to get consistent back to back wins.
To be honest I had a feeling if we win tonight the wagon wheels might still have fallen off post international break. But if we can't put together a string of wins like Leicester, London and Manchester etc... then we ain't getting much out of this season. Achara summed us perfectly post game.
Again congrats to the Scorchers I'm sure there's going to be one great victory celebration on their bus home.

Newcastle need to change their guard Cohn. He just isn't an offensive threat. Not enough from the guard spots. the Surrey guards wm the game.

More likely the opposite Where is the real quality in the Eagles team?

Again a few dodgy calls from our friends in pink probably cost us the win but hey ho we are playing riders shouldn’t expect anything else really bbl is the same as the premier league so called bigger teams get those calls having said that well played nix pushed them all the way What do you mean "so called bigger team'? Lol what don’t you understand

Also technically given how inconsistent we are if it so happens to be our day I'm pretty sure we can beat Riders, Lions and Giants too.

The American import centre played 6 minutes. And that's with Defoe out hurt. You have to ask why was he recruited.

Congratulations Scorchers on a deserved win. Agree that Wang is quality, I enjoyed watching him go to work. Eagles woes continue. Darius's early injury didn't help but none of the guards shot well. No excuses Scorchers were the better team.
Teamnix I used to blame the referees a lot but then realized that many times I was wrong when I watched the game back. You came close which is to Nix credit.
IRF, you amaze me. When I started this reply you had nine comments on the thread. Not one was about your hopes for the game or how Riders fared during it. Did you watch it? You obviously weren't there or did you stream the Eagles game at the same time?
I give my team 100% attention when they play, win or lose. When I watch other games it's when Eagles aren't playing. I don't understand why any other fan would act differently.
You predicted a comfortable Eagles game even though it had banana skin written all over it. Then you once again come on here simply to pour scorn and mock the Eagles performance. Your form for this behaviour goes back many years. You are entitled to your opinion but your Eagles obsession is now troll like. It is not a good look.

Newcastle need to change their guard Cohn. He just isn't an offensive threat. Not enough from the guard spots. the Surrey guards wm the game. Quincy Taylor did whatever he wanted when being guarded by Cohn tonight. Pretty much every other opposing guard have gone at him and done well. Fletcher destroyed him in the first game of the season, was pretty chuffed for Fletch to prove that point to be fair. Scorchers came out wanting that game more than Eagles. You can't do that when you're as average as the Eagles are. Scorchers defended the perimeter very well and obviously did their homework on the Eagles. Odd to see Shelton sat on the bench for so long. He's been pretty ineffectual all season, so this maybe Steutel losing patience with him. He's a complete waste of an import slot at the moment, especially if Defoe is going to be out for some time. Having said all that, Surrey got the luck of the referee lottery tonight. Extremely soft call on Johnson when Ryan Martin went down trying to rebound, which resulted in free throws. Then the worst offensive foul call I've ever seen called on Johnson on the very next play essentially sealed the game. Such pivotal moments and the refs cocked it up badly, robbing us all of what would've been a good end to the game.

Aside from the fact they were wearing grey, I thought the game was refereed relatively well and if anything it favoured Cheshire. The level of physicality allowed is always going to allow players that defend as aggressively as Austin to be effective. Teague was regularly able to use his size to bang with Loving and anyone else that got in front of him. Not that I thought the post moves were necessarily fouls, but I've definitely seen people get in trouble whenever there's a hint of size difference. Perhaps if our defenders threw themselves to the ground like Neighbour has done in recent games, we might have gotten a few offensive fouls!
I must say I'm getting a little concerned about Thornton. The half court offense is significantly better when he isn't on the floor and as far as I'm aware he didn't come on at all in a tight 4th quarter. I know a point guard needs time to find their feet but he's been with the team since the back end of September. If he hasn't figured out the offense yet, will he ever? Not that I'm calling for his head, but we need to see more from him if we are to be a genuine challenger for 2nd place.

Your form for this behaviour goes back many years. You are entitled to your opinion but your Eagles obsession is now troll like. It is not a good look. Mac I wasn't at the Riders game. I don't live in Leicestershire any more so getting to games not so easy for me So watched the sky game which was Eagles I followed Riders on livestats so can't really comment on the game. So above I'm not trolling. Just commenting on the game I could actually watch last night I was hoping others watching the game might join in a bit tbh And I think my comments on that game were fair comment I'm not mocking Eagles. Just giving an opinion. Last night although Scorchers clearly were desperate for the win. They didnt play great themselves. Their 3 point shooting was shocking If not the game wouldn't even have been close Achara himself said after the game there's not many other teams Surrey could have beaten tonight playing like that Drew Lasker interviewing Steutel after the game questioned the lack of energy and effort from Eagles at the start of the game? That's kind of unacceptable. Steutel didn't disagree but couldn't explain it - saying the team had trained well all week It's hard to find positive stuff to say about Eagles after watching that performance tbh They didn't perform - and the player who got fouled out for something like the 5th game in row for Eagles (Donovan Johnson) although he contributed stats wise last night is such a loose cannon? Even after being fouled out it looked like he couldn't stop having an argument! Routledge was keeping an eye out for a technical at a time you really didn't need one The point guard Cohn looked like a back up point guard at best to me All just honest opinion above Scorchers showed glimpses of promise. Obviously Wang is a great player. But they will need to improve a lot as well if they aren't going to be bottom two all season IMO As I said above Scorchers shot 2 from 20 3 pointers and still found a way to win somehow Eagles 3 point shooting wasn't that great either. 6 from 19. Not great but would have been good enough to make a difference v Scorchers last night all other things being equal I also think the performance from Eagles impacted the crowd as well. It didn't look at any stage like an Eagles crowd fully engaged in that match Maybe its just how that came across on Sky? Finally, just to say it really makes no difference to me whether Eagles won or lost last night. I'm not here to mock them. Just wanted to enjoy a game from home last night (which I did) and talk about what I had seen. Which I did I totally agree with you - if you are watching your own team play you focus your comments on them Riders v Sharks on Sky next week. I will be able to comment on Riders instead On Last night's showing more personnel changes are needed at Eagles or else it's going to be a long season for the fans But being brutally honest there's not many real quality players to build around based on last night. You played like an bottom two team IMO Sorry how I came across above as this wasn't meant to be a case of kicking a dog when it's down I know I've done that plenty in the past Ps Scorchers still badly hit by injuries - so maybe more is to come from them in time?

You are sounding like dybdyb an old poster on whatsbev A sharks fan who always blamed refs when his team lost Unless you think someone actually bribed the refs I think in BBL you just have to take the rough with the smooth There's always going to be stuff you could disagree with both ways

That sounds worrying re Thornton It was never going to be easy replacing Geno - we all knew that though! Rob won't keep someone hanging around long he doesn't trust to use

I completely agree with you about Thornton warming the bench in Q4. Twice Washington lost the ball with weak passes yet our American import wasn't deployed. It was telling that the coach didn't think he could make a difference in a VERY tight game. I am really hoping we can sign someone who can help in the low post now Walker's out. Last night showed how vital that is for future games. Adekoya and Nelson-Henry can't shoulder that burden alone for the rest of the season.
