I was really sad to hear Sevenoaks Suns were withdrawing from the league for (at least) a year... especially as a former London Towers fan I know what withdrawing from the league for a year normally means!
I'm not totally surprised, despite being one of the dominant teams in the WBBL for years they were run on a shoestring budget even by WBBL standards. Until the last few years they played their home games in a private school's leisure centre with no seating, before moving to Surrey Sports Park... over an hours drive round the M25 from Sevenoaks itself. I just had a feeling this wouldn't end well, and that's before the recent 777 and London developments.
I must be in a somewhat unique position - supporting London Lions in the BBL and Sevenoaks Suns in the WBBL. As you can imagine I'm riding the wave of London in the BBL, but devastated by what's happened to Sevenoaks (at least in part) as a result.

WBBL does have very recent history of a team taking a year out to sort out finances and administrative matters - Sheffield Hatters. They seem to have done ok after their time out - and also have a next step of moving into the new arena with Sharks I guess Suns see their future where they are and not at Surrey.

Well Sevenoaks Suns is a basketball club. The women’s senior team is their most famous team but they’re not the club. It would be nice if someone stepped in to save the WBBL team and maybe rename them Surrey Suns.

Apparently there was talk about a proposed solution involving Surrey Scorchers - although I don’t know the details, but it didn’t work out. Let’s be honest, Scorchers probably aren’t in a position to take on a WBBL team. As you say, Sevenoaks Suns are more than just the WBBL team, so although a ‘Surrey Suns’ might have been a solution it would have been sad to see them separate from Sevenoaks. It’s all such a shame as I know pre-2020 Sevenoaks Suns were planning their own 500 seater community arena in nearby Swanley.

Looks like there's been a mass exodus from the Lions ladies per their last posts. It looks as if just Winterburn, Beckford-Norton and Snytsina have not officially left.. everyone else has had a thank you post. Still no confirmation if those three have re-signed

Someone has mentioned it's likely so they can upgrade the squad for their Euroleague qualifiers. Apparently (don't quote me on this) there is no limit on import numbers in the WBBL as it's never really been an issue, so Lions may just add a lot of imports around Winterburn / Beckford-Norton. They already had a good % of the GB national squad in the team so it's hard to see where they can upgrade on Brits

Perhaps having experienced life in the capital of England, they could be looking for a new challenge in another country north of the border??
