Regardless it's not lazy recruitment!

He could be a good fit. Not a rookie and known to Loving who used to play alongside him at college. Be interesting to see how he fares.

Played with a few guys with Riders connections. Including playing in the back court with Jonah Mathews in Sweden and their numbers are very similar. A year on from that Mathews now playing Euroleague. Suggests Jackson has the tools to be a very good player in this league.

Rob has a very good track record with recruitment. There have been some duds but very few in the last decade while he's been our coach. I'm pretty confident Jackson will be a very good PG. The question is whether he'll be a good fit within Rob's system. We shall be able to judge that very soon. That's an exciting prospect.

Not even close Geno standard. Massive step down, averaged 4 points in the 2nd division in Israel. Good for bbl but euro? Not so sure

Not saying he'll step in and be as good as Geno but I'd read more in to the 2 full seasons he played in Sweden rather than the 7 minutes he played in Israel.

I don't think there is any Riders fan who expected to get a like-for-like replacement.
....and as jumbo stated, those stats you are quoting came from one game.

Wikipedia didnt say how many games, i didn't look into it fully. Sweedish league isnt as good as the bbl.
I hope he does well but i wouldnt be surprised if a player gets cut to build around someone else

Is the Swedish league really worse than the BBL? I can't say I've watched any of it, but a cursory glance suggests that they've been going into European competition on a far more regular basis than we have. Borås Basket made the round of 32 in the Europe Cup in 15/16 as did Södertälje Basketbollklubb in the same year. Södertälje Basketbollklubb also played in the regular season of the Europe Cup in 16/17. I know absolutely nothing about the EuroChallenge, but the league also had regular contenders in that until the competition ceased to exist. I'm happy to be educated on the history and quality of Swedish basketball, but their (significantly) larger number of entries into European competitions in the last decade would suggest that it would at least be competitive with the BBL.

You sure do have some strange takes tallerman. A few months ago you didn't even think Geno was that good. Don't know whether you're just trying to troll Riders fans or something.
I think you'll find the Swedish league stacks up perfectly well with the BBL. If you take the completely non-representative Lions out of the mix, it might even be a slightly better league. Flexo has beaten me to it here but Sodertalje, Boras and Norrkoping have all had some sort of success at Europe Cup level over the last decade. There certainly aren't three BBL teams you can say that about.
This guy was a decent starter at a high level in college and has had two very productive seasons in a perfectly competitive pro league. No point mentioning the seven minutes he played in Israel or the 37 minutes he played in Finland last season. Spent most of the year hurt. He's been playing in Vietnam over the summer. No idea about the standard over there but the fact he's spent the last few months playing regularly would suggest his injury troubles are behind him.
Maybe what's going on at Lions right now is just making everything else seem underwhelming but I feel like it's been quite a slow summer in terms of quality new signings. Outside of London, I'm not sure I've seen any BBL club announce an obvious potential standout. On paper, I think CJ Jackson might be the best I've seen yet in fact. If you put Geno's CV two years ago alongside this guy's, you'd probably say Jackson's is better. Geno turned out to be possibly the best player I've seen in a Riders uniform so the chances of Jackson being as good are obviously slim. But if he's healthy again he really looks like a guy who should do pretty well in this league. And his numbers in Sweden suggest he's another all action type who could be capable of making a similar-ish contribution.
I've done quite a bit of moaning this summer but I think the club has probably made a decent enough attempt here at filling a very big hole. Unfortunately, it is still impossible to shake the feeling that we're a worse team now than we were last season. I'd really like to see us make use of that 5th American slot, even if it is just a cheap rookie on a student deal. And an athletic 4/5 is what I think we should be looking for. Assuming CJ works out we look fine at the guard/wing spots but the gulf in class between our front court and London's looks huge. Completely unfair comparison of course as they'll have spent many times what we have. But at the end of the day, if we're going to win anything this season we're probably gonna have to find a way to beat this lot.

I most certainly have never said Geno was a bad player, ive said he had his floors when comparing him to the german bbl where he has headed. Ive said quite often hes one of the best plauers ive seen in the bbl.
On dave owen website it lists vietnam as a semi pro league. Morakinyo williams from nbl1 was playing there previously.
Sweeden has some good times like youve mentioned, Jackson didn't play for tjem he played for the newly promoted team thats highest position came when glasgow were the champions of the bbl.
Again, i didnt say jackson was bad either i said he was good for the bbl but im not convinced for europe.
Not sure if you're misreading my posts because you want a troll on this board because im certainly not one

Don't know loads about the other minor euro leagues. But they had 4 Americans that year. 2 are now playing euroleague. And the other averaged 14/7 in the Czech league last year, albeit on a poor team, which is comparable with Genos numbers over there. So if they had what on the face of it are 4 elite level bbl imports and finished mid table would suggest the league is a decent standard.
Wouldn't worry too much about the euro campaign. Not sure anyone we could realistically sign would give us more than an outside chance of going through. As a bbl signing he looks...on paper...about as good as it gets for a non-Lions team

I don’t really care what anyone else thinks, I’m just happy to make up my own mind when I see him play, but I hope and think that we’ll all be pleasantly surprised.

He might be as good as Geno after all? How many assists did he get in the 7 minutes? That should confirm it for us one way or another?

Tonight we will hopefully get to see C J Jackson play for Riders. Excited to see the new guy on the block tread the boards. Last week Walker seemed to pick up a wrist/hand injury in the closing minutes but he played on so I hope that he's okay. Just for once it'd be nice to see the full roster available to play our opponents at the beginning of a new season.

Most, if not all, other sports are postponed or cancelled this weekend.

Think there's a Government meeting as we speak after which more guidance will be given re Sports events etc
So far I think some sports events have chosen to cancel
For example England Test Match cancelled today's play as mark as respect
But awaiting guidance for next two days
I guess it's never happened in modern era for anybody to really know the correct etiquette

Think consensus was Friday would be a pause for sport. But others have gone further.
Like I say many are awaiting more guidance I think
Sports received official guidance from the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport only hours after the Queen’s death due to a fear of leaks, leaving them with little time to plan for the weekend.
That has led to frustration among some as they rushed to decide what to do next. One observer told the Guardian that a key discussion among all sports centred around whether a one-day or longer suspension to mark the Queen’s death was more suitable.
Another said they believed that the majority of sports wanted to resume on Saturday, although they indicated that all would be mindful of the public mood over the next 24 hours.
It is understood the England and Wales Cricket Board is looking at options for the third Test at the Oval that range from applying to the International Cricket Council to extend the match by an extra day to cancelling it completely. However, it is thought that it is more likely that the Test continues at some point this weekend, with a suitable mark of respect for the Queen.
