Definitely the end of an era there. Vince was a BBL great. Be good to see him get a job elsewhere.

Very surprised its happened mid season when London were doing well considering the amount of travelling and games they have faced. Be good to see Vince back. A real animated character of the game.

I'm shocked. Not that it's happened, but that it's happened mid-season.
When Vince sold London Lions to 777 Partners he said he'd remain with the organisation in two roles - Head Coach and Head of Basketball. Today's announcement, and the comments from Vince himself, sound like he's not only leaving the Head Coach role but the London Lions organisation altogether. So I'm guessing that perhaps the Head of Basketball role ceased with the introduction of the new GM this season.
If that's correct, I'd go as far as to say it's a travesty for the London Lions.
I've said before I wasn't convinced the Head Coach role was right for Vince, saying at the time that they'd have been better making him the GM and recruiting a new Head Coach. They got things the wrong way round in my opinion.
Vince knows British basketball like very few others. And he probably knows London basketball like no other. He's an extremely valuable asset, maybe not as Head Coach, but an extremely valuable asset none the less. If he's completely left the London Lions organisation then this is a huge mistake.

Vince was Lions through and through and huge figure in British basketball but he wasn't a good enough coach to meet the new owners vision.
Real shame if he disappears forever but London could really sky rocket now

Nah, I'd bring in Vince in a mentorship role to help Gareth. I think Vince has good knowledge and it would add a wealth of experience to the organisation.

Little story about Vince - Id never really spoken to him in any depth before and it was around 4 and a half years ago my mum died, I get a message request on Facebook from him saying how sorry he was to hear the news and wishing me all the best.
Hes had his colorful moments (give me someone in the BBL as long as he has who hasnt), but that was pure class.
The game simply wouldnt function without his like, indeed he really did graft to make it work as best he could (warehouses and shopping centres in MK) and I really hope he does find his way back into the league somehow. Has certainly made the Ldn franchise what it is today.

I am shocked and not shocked at the same time. What they achieved in Europe this year deserves huge credit, and generally they’ve looked a more cohesive team this year compared to last, but results recently have been poor and I’m not surprised the owners probably want their own man in, although I can see it being an American with no experience of Euro basketball which would be a mistake imo, pleased for James Vear though hopefully he gets a decent crack at it because I think he’s a very talented basketball coach

Maybe we'll see Vince in a more central role in the BBL organisation in the future, he's certainly got the experience and knowledge of British basketball for it. Assuming he's still on good terms with 777 Partners that is (which it sounds like he is). Having said that, he's 60 years old, maybe he's looking for an early retirement with just occasional consultation work here and there.

I'm shocked especially at this stage in the season but I suppose with big money comes a bigger demand for success so I can understand why 777 may have wanted to get someone with a stronger coaching pedigree at the helm from Europe or the NBA leagues perhaps.
I even remembered them saying on the BBL show afew weeks ago Drew and Jay dropped in Robbie P's name since he is probably the strongest coach in the BBL right now. I doubt he would leave Leicester though.
Love him or hate him you had to admire Vinces passion for the Lions and London ball who has been with this club for decades. I doubt he would go to another club outside London if I'm honest. If anything I think Vince deserves and would do well stepping up to corporate role for the franchise possibly. What ever he goes on to do I wish him good luck with.

I've got a lot of respect for Vince and everything he's put into the Lions over the years. Like Bigz said the BBL has really been reliant on individuals like Vince giving their heart and soul to the game. I'm a little confused about the change. I get that results haven't been as expected but I'm not sure what else Vear is going to bring to the table. If you want a change in results now why not bring in the big name now. Otherwise just let Vince ride out the season 🤔

Sad to hear this news. He is synonymous with Lions. Concerned that 777 won't stick around the way Vince has for Lions.

No real shock in this really maybe the issue of timing. This lions team maybe arent as good individually as last season and a better coach is needed to get it to work. Leicester are miles ahead

Leicester are miles ahead The shock for me is he's left completely. I could have foreseen him being put in a director of basketball type role or something else back room (or front office, theres a lot of places isnt there....) related - but for him to step aside completely is a real shocker for me, Lions is basically his life work after all. Sam Neter made a great point on twitter though - his departing statement makes reference to it not being the end. This new investment was put in with the intention of 4 new franchises. Is there anyone better to get one off the ground the way hes grafted with Lions over the years? I always said the BBL would never return to Liverpool barring a huge outside influence coming in and making it happen. Well, Vince is a scouser and one hell of an influence. Could it happen? Who knows...
