I won't be offering any congratulations to the smug-faced Riders if they win today. Their domination of the BBL truly delights no one other than their own over-stuffed fans. Where else could you win multiple trophies yet still not sell out their arena? Even a jetwash wouldn't be enough. The best result for the growth of the BBL and British Basketball as a whole will be a Linos victory. I've taken a piece of the plus 9.5pts handicap. Stuff them Linos! Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha TWIT !

Wow I just watched the final now on record what a game! I thought London were going to steal it but in the end come crunch time Riders held their nerve and took care of business.
As a neutral I throughly enjoyed it and it was an odd game with London being the better team in Quarters 1 and 3 whilst Riders controlled Quarters 2 and 4. Was almost routing for Overtime at the end of the match. That 4th Quarter once again was what ultimately costed the Lions but atleast they showed up to this final.
All I can say is congrats to Leicester. Rob and company as well as commiserations to Lions. Hopefully next season my Newcastle Eagles will be at the next final as todays game from both sides really set the bench mark for where all team and the BBL wants to be at.

Likewise many congratulations to Leicester from the North East. I think that’s the best team Rob has ever produced and, ultimately, a great team beat a collection of talented individuals in the form of the Lions team. And Paternostro won the coaching battle hands down against whoever was coaching the Lions.
Ultimately Leicester won the game off the bench. Their starters were -31 but the four 2nd unit players amassed an amazing +45. Rob’s genius was to find a unit which worked and to run with it - hence reduced minutes for Loving and Whelan who struggled despite stellar contributions over the season.
In comparison London got next to nothing off the bench. Kelley picked up quick fouls and the coaching rotations seemed all over the place to me.

Thank you Spacejammer and Baldeagle, I’ve always said that Eagles have fantastic supporters, probably the best in the league, Their comments showed plenty of class despite their own side having a disappointing season, They know how much hard work goes into making a successful team. Can’t believe how much bitterness is being posted especially on social media towards Riders victory, Plymouth seem to be taking it very hard.
As for the game….for most of it I thought Riders were pretty poor compared to their usual standards Lions played out of their skins in parts of the game and couldn’t have gave any more, Apart from Kelly who for me was garbage and let his emotions get the better of him.
As I predicted…..Riders win in front of a hostile crowd…..So glad the constant booing for the whole game by Lions supporters helped…
Remember guys Defence wins Championships…….

In a crowd of 8000 there must have been loads- were there blocks allocated to each set of fans?

Could someone please explain what role and input the Lions named coach and assistants had on the day? The time outs were not taken by the coach or assistants, and he nominated head coach was almost as lifeless as a manequin on the sidelines.

Live stats says 10,000 so who knows. I saw 8,000 tweeted by a Lions fan.

You've expressed exactly how I feel about the game. When our bench were initially playing I was quite nervous that we'd slip further behind in Q2 but the opposite was true - we settled into our stride and took control. That was quite a courageous decision by Rob and it paid dividends. It showed we could claw back from Lions any lead they might achieve and we had to do it all over again in Q4. It was a great final and finale to the season. Perhaps the basketball was scrappy at times from both teams but it lived up to the billing and hype. Reese, Tawiah and Williams were excellent. If Reese returns next season to Lions then with a good coach that team will be very tough to beat. Against the best defence in the league he was unstoppable for most of the game. Ward-Hibbert showed why he's such good player with close guarding and his all round energy on the court. That was despite a season of injuries where he missed a lot of games. I'd love to see him back with Riders.

I hope we see a resurgent Eagles team next season so we can return to the terrific rivalry our two clubs enjoyed in the past. I've always thought the reason we loved winning against Newcastle was because they set the benchmark for years in terms of skill, competitiveness, energy and team work. They crushed us in a final at Coventry with phenomenal defence. I don't recall anyone being bitter or sour about their success and domination of the league. They set a high benchmark for others to aspire to reach. Under Paternostro Leicester set about building a squad that could compete with and, ultimately, beat Eagles. It took several years. Isthaturinal is right when he says to enjoy your successes because who knows how or when fortune's wheel will turn? So, I look forward to having great games against Eagles in the future. I can't recall fans of Newcastle accusing Leicester of being 'smug-faced' etc. There was always a respect and admiration between both sets of fans and the players. Just don't want Eagles to get too good too soon! That's spot on I would say the reason Riders are so strong today is having to build a squad capable of competing and beating Eagles in the past That wasnt easy and took time. We've since built on that further. Eagles dragged us upwards Eagles certainly didn't ruin BBL when they dominated it!!

Agree with Baldeagle's summary. Lions had the talent to win but Rob had the nouce. Reece's lack of control is the reason he is not in a better league. I thought Tawiah had a decent game. The least said about that final play the better. For Riders, Nelson-Henry was a beast in the paint but it was the team game that won. Definitely one to watch again. Riders, keep humble and enjoy the ride.
Really disappointed in the negativity. Eagles had a collection of haters when we were dominant, I suppose it goes with the territory. Maybe Solly should change his name to Salty? Blueskies99, your reaction while understandable is offensive and one I am surprised hasn't been moderated.

Prior to the final play our player made an awful pass when all he needed to do was hang on to the ball to get fouled That was potentially worse than Lions messing up that final play they got as a result of the silly pass tbh Luckily Lions didnt punish our mistake! The game basically ended with two silly passes in a row

The last few seconds was a bit disappointing as someone who is more or less neutral and wants nothing but success for the BBL. I take any opportunity to defend the BBL, and that sort of thing is unhelpful, but it was a blip at the end of a very exciting and competitive game. It exposed what everyone knows; the Lions's weakness is their head coach, or lack of.
In terms of numbers of fans in the O2. I don't know how many there were but there was a lot. The arena looked great, the seats looked mostly filled, and the atmosphere sounded fantastic.

According to the announcer in the arena, 11,000 were in attendance for the WBBL game (a new record for a WBBL game) and 16,000 for the BBL game. The atmosphere was fantastic, maybe the best of any BBL game I've ever been to, so that's really positive for the future of the game in this country. There was dedicated London/Leicester seating behind each bench... but believe me, 90% of those there where were supporting London (somewhat obviously). I have to give credit to the Leicester fans though, they might have been outnumbered but they certainly turned up. They looked great in their red play-off t-shirts too. Meanwhile Lions fans (including myself) were left having to wear merchandise from previous seasons with the old logo and colours. Embarrassing. I did notice the electronic advertising boards were saying London Lions jerseys are now available from the online shop... so I tried the web address given, and it doesn't work. Again, embarrassing. I really hope they get the merchandising together ahead of next season.
