I'm going to say Gladiators over Giants by blow out. Riders to beat Flyers and I going to say Eagles to beat Sharks. That being said I feel our game with Sharks and the Riders vs Flyers could go either way.

Anyway I’m gunning for a win by my Leicester Planters Glasgow Rocks to get the W and Sharks to pluck the Eagles feathers.

That has to be the lamest thing ever, to name the team after the actual sport! I suppose you do get football teams that are just literally 'Liverpool Football Club' or whatever, but you don't normally see it in basketball. How hard is it to come up with a proper name? Manchester Mammoths? Manchester Massive? Manchester Monsters? Ok they all sound a bit lame but how about Manchester Titans? Manchester Fire? Manchester Slammers? Anything has to be better than just....Basketball!

Can't see the basketball team based in Manchester winning at all. Suspect Flyers will win against Riders and I hope that Eagles beat Sharks as I can see Sharks being the team to beat in in winning the trophy!!

On the subject of tomorrow's games... I have no idea which one to watch from a neutral's point of view. I'm leaning towards Leicester-Bristol?

The irony about Surrey is that they a buying in to Surrey's heritage with using the 89er's name (I think) yet they play in green, where Surrey's colours are actually blue and yellow

Its not a tagline, its a team name - a brand, an identity. Fans will say 'who are we playing today? Ah, the Sharks! And tomorrow? Ah, we're playing Basketball tomorrow!' it just doesn't sound good does it. But each to their own I guess!

I actually say we're playing Surrey today, or we're playing Sheffield today, especially if I'm talking with people not overly familiar with the league. So each to their own.

Without wanting to take the thread off-topic, I wonder if the American-style names puts people off the sport. You don't see many teams in Europe adopting this style of naming their teams.

If they don’t have the possibility of using Giants, it’s a solid marketing move.
Lots of examples in MLS for example now where the emphasis is on highlighting the city or town rather than a nickname

What I mean is though, why have 'basketball' as part of the name instead of something else? If they don't want a brand that's fine, but then it's just Manchester, or Team Manchester or something. I just think its daft using the name of the sport as your brand name too. Perhaps if they were to follow football and call themselves Manchester Basketball Club, or Manchester BC - that might start a new trend!

But they're not Manchester Basketball Club. That name belongs to Manchester Swarm

They have to differentiate some how from City & United the two massive football clubs. Obvs they didn't get the Giants brand as part of the deal. Prefixing any sports team with "Team" sounds awful (American Naff). (Sorry Kestrel fans). As for nicknames,.... United, City, Albion, Hotspurs, Victoria (Northwich), Alexandra (Crewe) are all just nicknames from another era, when the clubs were set up.
