Lord knows how Newcastle fans cope with their arena announcer. His manner of speech is like listening to nails on a blackboard.

I couldn’t go see em every other week. The new guy at Sharks seems decent.

It’s his cadence. It’s unbearable.

Not the finished article but Riders won quite comfortably in the end. Really like our energy and team-first ethos. Jackson showed why we re-signed him.

Well I don't know how we managed to pull that one off but great start to see my team win. That being said I felt Sheffield were the better team for 3 Quarters of the contest.
For the Eagles it felt like the game was a reverse meltdown as we started off bad and could barely hit a barn door. I know Steutel is the GB head coach but after 3 seasons I'm starting to question whether he should consider hiring a free throw shooting coach as every team I have seen can't seem to hit them? On top that we turned the ball over way to easily.
Meanwhile Sheffield were absolutely ferocious on both ends and was probably the most vicious I have seen the Sharks. I can see why some of the pundits have tipped them as favourites as they had the right blend of experience but also some exciting new additions such as Jefferies who was a nightmare at times to stop. Plus when they scored you could see they liked to express how much it meant to score buckets.
But once the Eagles got going in the 4th and somehow managed to stick around Sharks seemed like they weren't sure what to do other then rely on the refs for cheap easy buckets. Once that ruckass during the mid 4th Quarter (which I'm suprised no tech was called on either team for) you could tell Sharks were rattled.
As for the officials credit they called it on both ends but they were way to erratic tonight calling everything and anything. Anderson I'm not sure how many elbows he was throwing but I'm amazed he got away with it as much as he did.
Overall I'm glad the Eagles got a win but I can already see it's going to take some time to figure out what works best for this group as we looked uncoordinated at times. Luckily we still have the veteran experience of Defoe to fall back on although I'm not sure why Neighbour was not used at all since he was kitted up.
Interestingly Marc did not use a single time out in the 2nd half which was unexpected but whatever he told the team at Halftime it must have worked. However if he is only going to use Neighbour on a limit this season. Then we definitely need more players ahead of the ENBL campaign as I can see us struggling. I just hope Cole Longs injury isn't anything long term and that we can score another win this Sunday against Manchester and go 2 for 2.
Either way it's good to back to witness what I hope to be another exciting season.

End of the half and I couldn't see anything but a Sharks win. We couldn't hit the proverbial barn door and our free throws were appalling. Even in the second half I always had the nag in the back of my mind that we'd find a way to blow the win. I need to watch the game back as I really didn't think it was a 47 foul game. Refs were really picky and I hope that's not an indication for the future. Let them play, please.

i'd say the foul count was an indication of your game. 47 fouls at the tight game, just 32 and 36 at the two blow outs. Manchester did make a mini come back - then the game went back to what was expected given the different timeframes both squads have been built on.

It was ever thus in the last few seasons. No change there.

"...not sure why Neighbour was not used at all since he was kitted up." It was ever thus in the last few seasons. No change there. Exactly! While I understand we may not necessarily have the budget for a deep bench but if that is the case we need to have players that we can rely on at any time to play when needed. I not sure what Neighbours value is but we'd be better getting 2 or 3 cheap value players that will atleast be used and get minutes then just have someone riding the bench and constantly being injured. During the summer I went to watch the new Deadpool movie where they made a joke about Marvel making the actor Hugh Jackman playing Wolverine until he's 90. From looking at our recruitment year after year I began to chuckle to myself at the thought of the Eagles doing the same with Darius Defoe.

I thought Eagles were pretty good again at a very Sheffield-y Sharks team, made even more Sheffield-y by Jamell. Not singing on offence yet but plenty of effort on defence. Throwing two rookies straight into the starting 5 (especially at PG) there was always going to be some rustiness. Llewellyn was obviously signed to be starting PG and looked great preseason but we looked so much better with Spencer (backed up by the +/-). It was a victory for the British vets, JWH, Darius and Spencers defence.
