This was a great advertisement for div 3 Tees Valley Mohawks had another narrow defeat this season but this time against Tameside Vikings 78-71 which came down to the wire and had the crowd on the edge of their seats. The packed out Middlesbrough College saw an incredible game of basketball, the crowd were treated to high flying dunks, incredible three point shooting and outstanding team basketball from both teams. Coach Butler says “ the crowd were amazing, the best ever atmosphere at a game for a long time and I can’t thank them enough. It’s such a shame we couldn’t get the W for them but Tameside are a really good team. “ Mohawks American Ennis Thomas top scored with 25 points well supported by Dan Kelsey who had 20 points. Mohawks would like to encourage the same crowd to turn up next week against Manchester Swarm. Coach Butler adds “ we got things to work on but I thoroughly believe in these guys and we will get over the line soon and then everything will come together. Once again we were missing Acho, Jake, Liam and Travis but that’s not an excuse, it just shows we have a very solid squad that will battle right to the end of the season.” #proudtobeamohawk #middlesbroughcollege

Tees Valley Mohawks win 104-52 against Manchester Kings at Middlesbrough College. A great team effort with 6 players in double digit points but it was the defensive effort in the first half that put the game to bed early on. Ennis Thomas top scored once again with 17 points, well supported by Lewis Butler, Dan Kelsey and Pat Mackle with 15 points also Jake Butler 12 and Jack Marsden 11 points.
Coach Butler says “ the first half was very impressive, second half our defence lapsed a lot but overall I’m very pleased to get the W and we played some very good basketball today.” #proudtobeamohawk

104-52, ouch. That is a huge disparity in talent right there.

104-52, ouch. That is a huge disparity in talent right there. Manchester Kings only had 8 players and no coach, we had 11 players and our American Ennis Thomas has settled in nicely and just a phenomenal player.

Convincing win over a very young Surrey team, I can’t see anything but mid table for raiders this year, bath were good patriots will be better

Derby day this week with Pats V Raiders. If Raiders don't have TES back it's not going to be pretty, gutted I'll miss it!

Disappointed with Thunder - last season was poor and off to a 0-4 start this season. Dunno what's going on there these days, since I moved up north I don't have my finger on the pulse as I used to, but this feels like quite a slump, they were always one of the better teams most of the time!

I think the issue isn't necessarily thunder but everyone else. In the last few years the top end of nbl1 have become a log better on and off the court and thunder haven't which in turn has made them worse. Zaire is still a very new owner and is learning on the go, he's just sacked the coach and become head coach again. He needs to either do it full time or research and invest in a genuine d1 coach, which will mean paying them also. It's much harder than it looks but he's building a big junior programme which is essential for any semi pro club

I think Thunder's success (or lack thereof) is mostly a case of recruitment. Last years team struggled and arguably we've gotten worse. Elijah Maynard and Bode Adeluola are good pickups - but most of the recruitment appears to have come from Thames Valley Cavaliers' bench and Sussex Bears. There's some quality but it feels like the team is missing one or two starters that would elevate them. I fear without that, whether it's Zaire coaching or anyone else, Worthing are going to struggle.

It is always interesting when the boss fires the coach and installs himself as coach instead. You'd better get results putting yourself over as the best candidate like that, otherwise it will just look like you're not willing to pay someone and that can make your outfit look quite amateurish.
