I was at the Derby vs Solent Kitking q/f last night. The Solent starting 5 is quality and they will surely be favourites for D2 South. High scoring 105 - 95 win for Derby in the end. Another great advert for NBL. The Kitking s/f line-up is going to be stacked.

I’d say they should’ve gone up as well as mk last year but then I remember they pulled their d1 team so they could look good in d2 against weaker opponents and I’m glad they’ve had to wait

Mohawks lost by 1 point to Teesside Lions in cup
Tees Valley Mohawks lose a thrilling game against Teesside Lions 70-69. Tees Valley Mohawks played outstanding and were missing 4 key players which showed the great strength in depth Mohawks have this season.
Dan Kesley top scored with 19 points, well supported by Lewis Butler 18 points and MVP went to Pat Markle who had 15 point but it was his defensive effort that earned him MVP.
Mohawks were up by 7 with 1.22 remaining but 8 huge points from Lions American B.Patrick got them over the line with a 1 point victory.
Coach Steve Butler says “ we were up against a division 2 team and should’ve won, I’m so proud of the team, we looked the better team today and had 4 key players missing which just shows our great strength in depth in the squad. I’m so proud of the players, we will now have the whole squad next week for our big league game against Tameside but the future of Mohawks is looking very exciting.”

Sounds like a good local derby game Tony - were you there for it? Were there many folk there? Don't know how many fans the teams typically draw these days but this had to be a good advert for both teams/divisions.

Teesside have about 500 fans a game so there was probably about 524 people there

Lions have changed venue for all games to Teesside university which holds about 450, I wasn’t there due to the wife been ill, we where missing 3 players and the visa for our American student had not been cleared, but it was just about full. |

It goes to show there's demand for basketball in the lower divisions, heck some D1 teams don't get that many fans at most games, so its good to see support at different levels. When you see people here commenting that there might be 'no basketball' when the BBL was going kaput....there's loads of basketball out there worth watching, people just need to give the NBL a chance, it's still good standard.

I watch a few NBL 1 games on you tube and the standard is good the top teams are only 3 or 4 players away from competing in the SBL |

Yeah I catch what I can on youtube as well, it's good they have such presentation now with commentary and everything. 20 years ago you were lucky if you'd see a dude holding a camcorder to film games at this level.
