Interesting that they are talking about Sam Dekker and his 3 year contract. Who's going to pay him?

An excellent final, only marred for me by the awful commentary. Nix did themselves proud and almost won the final. £ions just have so much strength in depth. Hoping that the issues with 777 are resolved very quickly and we have a BBL in the autumn.

Now begins the long wait to hear which players have signed or re-signed.

I haven't watched it yet but it seems Cheshire gave it a real go.

I mean, not unexpected to be honest and congratulations to London etc big shot from Dekker blah blah well done hope it makes your day.
Now onto Cheshire. Come back from what a 15/16 point deficit to tie the game, Rideau is literally everywhere coming up with huge plays, Rais getting scores, and they basically have London where they want them with 38 left. Hell of an effort to get to that point.
Enter Ethan fucking Chargois. Not only is it against any basic Defensive principle (and indeed specifically cheshires) to not help off on the strong side of the offence, he's got the leagues best player (not MVP, but the best player in the league nonetheless for me) stood in one of his favourite spots for 3 in the corner. What do you do Ethan? I know, I'll go over and help Maceo Jack who hasn't even been beaten by Matt Morgan at this stage and leave him wide open. In one of his favourite spots.
Honestly? I'd make him walk home. Not back to Cheshire, back across the pond. You want to see a guy wholl be working for Fedex in two years there he is. That defensive play has absolutely burnt my head out. Utterly stupid. Cost them the game because if that's tied with 6 or so seconds left Im certain Rideau would have found a way. Horrific.

Well, as a neutral this was certainly the best game for the final but also a game of 2 halves for me.
In the first half I thought Lions were going to out to do what I expected them to do which make Cheshire pay up hard and it looked like it was going to be that way.
But in the 2nd half Cheshire showed once again that hard work and grit that got them the credit they deserved by running Lions all the way and taking it to the wire and played smart in being crafty and frustrating the Lions players.
After what I saw in the boxing last night I genuinely thought we were set for another exciting sporting comeback. But towards the end of the game I similar to Leicester in last seasons final with free throws.
I felt Nix once they came back missed an opportunity to take the game but by missing to many FG's down the stretch. I felt they had atleast 4 or 5 stops against Lions where they followed up short.
But whilst I know the Nix will be hurting I think they can certainly hold their heads high after this season and regardless atleast they still took 1 Trophy home at the end of the season. Its a pity they got rid of the Cup and we didn't get to see 3 straight finals between these teams.
As for Lions congratulations for the win in the end. Whatever happens with 777 I hope the Lions are somewhat able to recover and enjoy this moment for now and we don't soon see the BBL playoff and championship Trophies being sold on Ebay next week in order to pay the bill.
As far as finals games go I'm glad it was a competive match up in the end.

If there's one thing which will be most welcome with 777 going pop, it's these pair been taken off commentatory. Tell me about it. I understand the London connection and all but they couldn't have been anymore London biased if they tried. Would have much preferred Dan Routledge or someone who could atleast have been a little more neutral. On the production side of things today apart from the commentary I thought the interviews with those Tik Tokers and Eastenders guys were a bit missed placed during the action. And I felt at times the cameras did miss key areas of play as well. But I suppose at the same time I was trying to appreciate it whilst we still have it. As after the 777 dust is settled who knows what sort of production if their is any will we have next season? I would hate to see things go back to the BBL TV days where the games were a £1 but consisted majorityly of London Lions or Worcester Wolves matches.

As I said recently, this whole 777 charade has just been for the benefit of one club, London Lions.
Their successes feel hollow due to the manner with which their success has been gained, it feels more like a Panto with 777 as the main villains and us as the gullible fools who initially bought into the 777 hype train despite warnings from someone who at the time came across as a mouthy troll but in the end dunkster was proven correct.
I'd like to see the BBL get back on track but there needs to be safeguards in place to prevent a repeat of the shameful circus that happened since 777 came in.

I didn’t watch either but congratulations to Lions / Man City and well done Nix/Arsenal for pushing them all the way. Both leagues need to share resources more evenly however, to prevent these yawnfest cheque book teams dominating our sport. Happy summer everyone !

having watch the coverage of the women's playoff final in real time, so glad I decided to go off line at 4pm when the football started so I could later watch the men's playoff final with zero knowledge of how it went.
Just finished - wow what a fightback from Cheshire, thought they were going to complete a finals double - then Sam hits the dagger. With 9 seconds left, hoped this would be the time for Cheshire to get a corner 3 on the buzzer - and who knows what momentum into OT would bring. Was not to be. Ref Williams seemed to be signalling nothing to look at on that final shot - so would love to have seen a repy of it from closer than the original view from opposite side. Not to be as game over and showing the joy in the winners.
Well done for a great end of season game - hope we have a 24-25 season with a tighter championship than this year plus a Trophy and a Playoff final as compelling as this year. Oh, PS, feel free to scrap the all-star and bring back the Cup.

Yes I deed, Dunkster has the last laugh. Question is, who in their right mind will step in to fund what will clearly be a league with a very damaged reputation. It will take several seasons to put this behind us. Very bad situation for British basketball

Well that was something. Inviting a 'celebrity' guest who used the words I hope London smoke these bums live on Sky Sports Low point of the season for me. Inexplicable how that was allowed to airpn Sky Sports.

What a great game! The boys from Ellesmere Port went toe to toe with the elite and went out swinging. Can’t say much more than that. You couldn’t ask more from the actual basketball. 777 however seems to have completely screwed up the coverage. Couldn’t get the score board to work properly, the big video screen was just show in coverage, no foul info or individual scores anywhere.
Rideau anf Rai both more worthy Decker as MVP but we’re on the loosing team by inches

Watching the game as a neutral and also irregular BBL viewer I thought it was good entertainment. I've seen Lions play on TV a few times this season and they actually seem to suffer with having too much depth in games sometimes. They get up a decent lead, rotate in another set of quality players...but who are not necessarily in the groove and it allows the other team to come back.
Cheshire were far more enjoyable to watch but I felt they shot too many 3s trying to get back into the game until they realised they didn't have to and got back into it anyway! I agree with Bigz that it was not the smartest move to leave Dekker in the corner but for me there was more than the hint of a foul on Rai's final chuck surely? In the NBA that would be reviewed to death!!
The whole story of how the London Lions have got to this stage does somewhat taint their wins but its not the fault of the players or their fans. I would also say that there is something in the fact that they have forced other teams/coaches to really step up their play to try and compete. Credit to Chesire but also others.

In terms of teams stepping up to match Lions I agree and disagree with that. I agree in a sense of more teams might have decided to tackle a European competition this season because of Lions and 777. But at the same time I also feel like teams have also rolled over and accept they've been beaten against Lions because they are to heavily stacked. If yesterday's game had have been just a regular season game would Nix have clawed they're way back into it as hard as they did? In Cheshires case probably yes given how hard they fightback. But for others teams once they go down like that the white flag goes up early and teams who don't have the resources or bodies just chalk it up as a loss. And from the games I seen this season at home the only ones I haven't enjoyed have been the Eagles vs Lions matches because Lions ran away with it so much to the point where I was bored. Another thing I noticed is the British basketball Facebook page has some fans ripping the Lions and the league for the 777 connection. Which makes this victory look like a tainted win for the Lions.

Its kind of bittersweet to see the celebrations - nice to see what it means to the players and the fans cheering - but you wonder how any of them don't have a clue what's going on behind the scenes or that this is the farewell. Commentators don't seem to be mentioning it, talking about Dekker's 3 year deal and so on as if this is going to just carry on. They were discouraging questions about the elephant in the room.

My thoughts after another enjoyable day at the O2 yesterday...
Firstly the game - a much more entertaining game than I thought it would be. I have to give my respect to Cheshire... there were a few times I honestly thought they were going to do it again, beat London on the biggest stage. I wrote them off at the beginning of the 3rd, only to be left thinking at the beginning of the 4th they might actually win this. But with 9 seconds remaining and the game level, a killer 3 pointer by Dekker followed by panic from Cheshire, the game was done. Great atmosphere in the arena from the Cheshire fans, the London fans, and the neutrals (95% of whom were unsurprisingly cheering for London).
Secondly the event itself. As I said, another enjoyable day I can't deny that. But as someone who has attended this event ever since it moved to the O2 I was left thinking this year was no different to all the others - same presentation, same attendance, etc. Which would be fine if it wasn't for the fact the league has had millions and millions of pounds invested in it over the last few years. When people say the league has nothing to show for the millions recently invested in it I think it's a valid point, and you don't need to look any further than this showpiece event as an example of that.
