The British Basketball League All-Star Game 2024 takes place at the Copper Box Arena in London on March 17, 2024. Tickets can be purchased here: www.britishbasketballleague.com/2024allstars/And the vote is now open! From today, fans can visit the British Basketball League All-Star voting webpage and pick their favourites for the North v South teams starting fives. They can select one centre, two forwards and two guards per team, and there is no limit on how many players from one club can be picked in the starting five. North: Caledonia Gladiators, Cheshire Phoenix, Manchester Giants, Seriös Group Newcastle Eagles, B. Braun Sheffield Sharks. South: Bristol Flyers, Leicester Riders, London Lions, Plymouth City Patriots, Surrey Scorchers. Voting closes on February 15 at 7:00pm (GMT), and the players with the most votes will be selected to start in their respective teams. The two top-performing North and South coaches in the League will be chosen as the head coaches for each team. These coaches will have the responsibility of selecting the reserves next month, with one selected from every team. www.britishbasketballleague.com/all-star-vote-2024/I've not made my selections yet, but I'm quite impressed with the voting process and website interface.

Impressed with the interface, although a lot of the stats looked wildly inaccurate e.g. Jamell is listed in the system as averaging 8/3/1 when the BBL Stats page has him at 15/4/3 for the season?
Anyway, my selection below to get us started!
PG: Jordan Johnson SG: Maceo Jack SF: Aaryn Rai PF: Tajh Green C: Ethan Chargois
PG: Matt Morgan SG: TJ Atwood SF: Teddy Allen PF: Conor Morgan C: Josh Sharma

Not massively impressed by the voting page. When I voted on my laptop I could not even see or rank player stats (admittedly, I just looked on mobile and I can now at least see stats).
A few Scorchers players listed in the wrong positions as well.

Is anybody seriously bothered about an all star game

Is anybody seriously bothered about an all star game I'm quite interested in the women's All Star game depending on who's picked. It makes sense for the women because some teams have one or two good players. For example Durham Palatinates have Harriet Ottewill-Soulsby and Janika Griffith-Wallace. They usually play with a team of students and about 2 players on the bench. It'll be interesting to see them play with a stronger team.

Is anybody seriously bothered about an all star game I think it might attract a casual fan who is curious and I might pop it on for a look or even watch the game if I got nothing better to do that day. Although for current league fans probably less so however I don't blame the league for trying something new I suppose. I'm just gutted we lost a serious competition in the Cup for this. I had a brief look on the votes as well. I'm sort of tempted just to vote all the 12th man off the bench players just for a laugh. But will probably have a serious vote at some point.

There is a danger fans will vote for rival teams players, to give their own players the weekend off.

Is anybody seriously bothered about an all star game I don't think we're (serious fans) necessarily the target audience of the All-Star Game. I think this is a showcase event, deigned to attract new/casual fans and attention for the league (for example, a full 6 hours of live coverage is scheduled for Sky Sports that day). And for that alone I think it has a purpose and am happy to see it on the calendar. I'm also rather looking forward to it myself. It's something a bit different and should be a fun day out. Also an opportunity for fans from across the league to get together. Does it have the importance of the Trophy, Championship or Play-Offs for me? Of course not. But I think I'll still enjoy it and all the events happening around it. I know I might be alone here, but my one criticism is that for this type of showcase event I'd have preferred a return of the British Basketball All-Stars Championship. There was something I really liked about getting to see all almost all the teams in the league play in a one day event.

I'm with you on this (we maybe a minority) but the All Star event had the makings of something really interesting and exciting. If you ignore some of the gimmicks and focus on the fact we got to see all the teams together in an exciting fast paced event..and in this case before the season, i think it was great. If you are looking to diversify the product i thought this was the way to go rather than an All Star game, which could have the possibility of being a bit of a damp squib due to its lack of competitiveness and (hopefully not) the lack of buy in from players as it doesn't quite have the prestige that a more established All Staff event would have, i.e. I'm a Lions player who is playing a shed ton of games this season and i might 'pick up a little knock' prior to the event and in turn give myself the weekend off to rest and recover. I really hope it works but i'm staying on the negative side of skepticism.

If I'm spending money and time coming down to the Copper Box I'm there to see my team play in a competion that means anything. So enjoy a day out but its a no thanks from me.

Not the voting system I was expecting. Seems to leave the door open for a South side packed full of Lions.

Not the voting system I was expecting. Seems to leave the door open for a South side packed full of Lions. It does. But it’s a fan vote, so if it goes the way of the coach & player of the month voting I think it’s safe to say that probably won’t happen. I too thought it would be limited to something like 2 players per team or something though.

I thought the All Star game was meant to be atleast one player from each team was going to be selected. I didn't realise it was going to be decided on a fan vote system?

They might use the fan vote to select the teams but not let the fan vote entirely pick the team. They might be able to make the squads from the two most popular players from each team.

I believe the fans just vote for the starting 5s, no? Then the coaches pick all the reserves - one from each team.
On the subject of who the all star game is for, there’s a good Josh Steel video somewhere where he explains how the NBA all star game has been an excellent vehicle for the league to market itself to partners and sponsors etc. Hopefully this can be the same for us.
I personally have a small interest in which scorchers player(s - but let’s be honest …) gets picked. I’m not entirely sure who will be buying tickets to this though. Hopefully a decent number do show up because otherwise those partners/sponsors etc won’t be impressed.

Didn't the BBL used to have an All Star game decade's ago. It would have been way before my time. But for anyone who used watch ball then what was it like and does anyone know why they scrapped it?

Is anybody seriously bothered about an all star game I wanna see London lions at full strength taking it seriously vs the best of the rest of the league if I’m honest. I think the rest of the league would get a spanking.
