Have to agree. A very emotional coach but that’s about it. The Owners need to do what Lions did and hire a GM with experience in a high level club. And then a high level coach. To be fair to them Lions took 2/3 seasons to sort themselves out and get to a good level. They still had Vince the first year of 777 involvement. I think we will see Caledonia get better and better over the next couple of seasons. To be honest I think since they won the Trophy last season it probably will give him some breathing space for a while. I agree from the documentary he was quite sharp but I thought Murray was quite respected throughout the BBL. As for the owner he comes across a guy who seems friendly but also isn't afraid to make tough choices and you probably wouldn't want to get on the wrongside of him. The fact Murray won a trophy gives him some points especially since it can take some coaches years to win a trophy and some non at all. I think it depends as well on what your measuring success on as well. For some clubs winning a trophy might be a sign of success. Whereas for some it is you must win or atleast be in contention for the championship. The former Eagles coach Ian Macleod won us all but the BBL championship but when we were struggling to make the playoffs it was goodnight Ian. Although he did walk away rather then be sacked. I cant see the Trophy win saving. We all know they probably should not have made the final anyway if it wasn’t for the London game. Also the huge factor of home court advantage in a final. He is definitely respected as person who has been a great servant to British Basketball, but as a coach, definitely not. Caledonia/Glasgow have never been short of talented players, and seem to be able to draw some high level talent. But yet only have a trophy win to their name. The Owner came across well but clearly has no basketball knowledge, so needs to higher a quality GM. They do already have one but can’t comment on how good he is. If they want to compete in Europe they will need a new Coach. Whenever things start going wrong, Murray sits on the bench looking like a stroppy child. Compare that to Bozic or Schmidt, very cool calm and collected. Ian’s job was always going to be impossible following on from Fab.

Funny all this moaning about Murray, Caledonia are second in the league as we speak.

You are correct we are 2nd in the league and given the budget afforded Gareth anything less would be seen as a failure. Our form will not see us finish second however so we need to see a vast improvement. I suppose it’s all relative with the investment of the owners we rightly have raised expectations for both the men’s and women’s teams. On the men’s side we aren’t always the most attractive team to watch either which isn’t going to help put bums on seats

And how many teams are competing in Europe. Did you really expect Gladiators to go all the way in the Europe Cup? To be honest London Lions despite how stacked they are I don't think will win or go all the way in the Euro Cup since they are only in their 2nd season in it. I would argue that the Gladiators have done better then the Eagles right now especially since we have known talent as well and are in 4th. I have a feeling if the owners got rid of Gareth right now it would come across as an unpopular move and they'd be concerned about turning the loyalist fans against them. And given how we know Lions are running the league which is never going to change while ever 777 is around. Like most teams they might just be buying their time in the hope 777 either leave or get done for some sort of corruption and fraud. In that event they might be more focused on getting fans to the new arena and growing the organisation.

Funny all this moaning about Murray, Caledonia are second in the league as we speak. I mean thats hardly anything to shout about a 13-8 record, a couple losses and other teams win they are down in 6. They have lost to patriots twice in the space of a couple of weeks, with wins against the Giants. Sorry but I don’t rate him. Maybe as a mid BBL team coach but if the owners have these big ambitions they need to start showing it.

Like most teams they might just be buying their time in the hope 777 either leave or get done for some sort of corruption and fraud. In that event they might be more focused on getting fans to the new arena and growing the organisation. That’s kind of my point… I would say if the league keeps improving the way it is and the calibre of players keeps getting better, then also the level of coaching will rise. We have more teams then ever competing in Europe… albeit a couple in a BBL levels European competition. I don’t remember saying that I expected them to go all the way in Europecup… but please show me if I did. To be fair to them they were in a very tough group and did well to pick up the win against Anwil. London have done extremely well this season in the Eurocup but will be disappointed with anything less then semifinals. Paris or Bourg are likely to be the ones to win it but there’s to many top teams in the competition that it’s impossible to call. Anyone looked into Paris more? Over the summer they signed 5 players from the team that won the champions league last season and also got the coach!! 777 probably wishing they got Paris instead of London.. a team in a great league, great city, great fans and huge potential. Without the need for propping up a whole country’s League and 2 of their teams, and getting nothing but hate 😅. I don’t agree with Caledonia fans that are annoyed about the Scottish core being lost. Bunyan was OK as a role player but nothing more, and clearly bigger ambitions mean he is now out of the picture. Frazier struggled with injury’s the last two seasons he played and probably wouldn’t get many minutes now and that’s about it. Malcolm doing OK as a role player. Unfortunately with the talent pool in the BBL getting better, it may lead to less opportunities for some of the club grown players. We will see more British players arrive that are currently playing in Europe or from high level US college teams. I’d say Eagles are looking fair better than Caledonia right now. If you guys had a fully fit squad, which you haven’t had all season, you’d be doing a lot better. You’re only one loss behind Caledonia. I right Marc a lot higher as a Coach then Gareth. Interesting point you make about teams buying their time to see what happens with 777. Feel this isn’t exactly true Another coach that needs to go is Lyon’s. I’d rather watch paint dry then watch a Sheffield game at present.

The only issue with a higher level coach is they might then get successful and then go elsewhere. I know Atiba and Gareth might not be Pep Guardiola or Jurgen Klopp of basketball but they will most likely stick around. Whereas other coaches might do 1 or 2 seasons then move on if a higher offer comes on. I mean look at Ryan Schmitt for London last year nd the guy that won you 80% of the league afew seasons ago and then left.

Isn't Atiba part of the ownership group at Sharks? As Bigz says, he'll be around for a while regardless of how awful they are to watch.

Sorry was a bit vague in that statement, it wasn't a criticism of anyone moaning about Gareth Murray. I think there is some merit in that to be honest, just more that it's funny that they're in second. Because it doesn't feel like they should be for some reason. One thing's for certain, Timoney's fancy buses and posh packed lunches aren't having much of an effect.

Same fundamental issues for Riders, all season - gotta look after the boards.
I don't think the appetite is there to stretch the budget - have Allen getting the fans in with his performances and keep chugging away.
Still think be a top four finish plus Trophy group qualification mind (although that's dependent on Lions showing their Hyde side)

To be fair if the Gladiators are 2nd in the league doesn't that not make Gareth the favourite to be in charge of Team North in the BBL All Star Game? I mean I don't know how their picking the coach and what the divide is geographical although I doubt Caledonia will be in the South. If it was my decision on who should lead the North I would probably go for Ben Thomas of Cheshire.
