Bearing in mind that the Belarus government is aligned with Russia, and that Russian military hardware is operating in Ukraine from Belarusian territory, will/ can/ should Monday evening’s qualifier still go ahead? Presumably a matter for FIBA?

I remember a phrase, much loved by the political left, from many years ago, "No normal sport in an abnormal society". However the seemed to forget that when the Soviets invaded countries and tortured their own citizens.
No, the game should not go ahead, and Russia should be expelled from FIBA, and all other sporting organisations.

It wouldn’t be me flying out there. I wouldn’t want to be shot down by mistake.

I saw somewhere on Twitter yesterday that we have said we are not going which is entirely sensible, I did see FIBA say the game is going ahead but I would be shocked if that doesn’t change very soon

www.bbc.co.uk/sport/basketball/60515500The away game was confirmed as postponed the other day on the BBC website. As for the home game I haven't heard anything yet and don't think they are going to postpone if I'm honest. Maybe they'd have some extra security at the arena or something. The article even says who is in the team. Are players really going to travel in from Japan for only 1 game?

Ovie was pictured at a game at copper box earlier in feb - so don't think travel is that big a deal to him or an issue anymore with regards the covid rules. Also by time GB made the right decision that they were not going to travel even when FIBA thought it could be safe to fly in there, players would already be here for he training camp - been based in Newcastle a few days now.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but neither Myles or Ovie have been pictured at any of the training sessions

Correct me if I'm wrong, but neither Myles or Ovie have been pictured at any of the training sessions Well if they had came over now it would have been for nothing anyway since it's now postponed. That's ashame as I was really looking forward to it. I suppose one advantage of the Eagles Arena is it could be rescheduled for any time but when is probably the next question? In the other group game Greece managed to just beat Turkey by 1 point and are now top of the table.

Selfishly I hope its rearranged to a weekend or the June window, when I'm off work! Well the Eagles appear to have quite a few gaps in their schedule to fit the GB game on a weekend. But that doesn't mean to say the arena wouldn't be used for other events then either. Perhaps they might then also have more fans for whatever after party Howard was promoting at the GB vs Greece game. When I looked at Eagles fixtures on Google earlier it says we have 3 games 2 of which at home against Flyers and Giants TBA as well. I wonder when they will be slotted in?

So Priti Patel cancelled the visas of the Belarus team hence the game being off

Not enough money in European Basketball to trot out the usual "sports and politics don't mix" line evidently

There are legal implications of cancelling the visas, which could protect the BBF etc from legal action by the Belarus federation to recover financial losses.
Just remember that Corbyn would have had the, totally incompetent, Diane Abbott as his home secretary!

Selfishly I hope its rearranged to a weekend or the June window, when I'm off work! will be surprised if we dont see FIBA removing the aggressor and the accomplice from the competition till the war they are having is ended and resolved, so no games v Belarus. Time will tell. was clearly a not to be weekend for me - had booked 2 nights so could watch NBL game on the Sunday as well as GB on the Monday. Had an enjoyable couple of days - just never saw any basketball.
