So although there's still 3 more games to go until the Quarter Finals a loss today will essentially end this season's Europe Cup journey for Lions. And to make it even more interesting, the same applies to Bakken Bears too. So it's essentially win or go home for both of them. Bookies have Bakken Bears favourites to win by 5 or 6 points. But they also said the Russian's would win by 20+, so what do they know!

Fingers crossed I think Lions can win this game, Certainly the best chance for win other than the home fixture against Bakken anyway, Hopefully Reese is back today

And as I said before, Lions need a win to have any chance of making the quarter finals (short of some kind of miracle). It'll be interesting to see if Reese is back. And if Vince is coaching solo again (which I suspect will be the case as they've travelled direct from Russia for tonight's game).

Neither team playing well in the first, feel like a broken record but 13-4 in rebounds after 1 quarter is just not something you can have happen every game like it does and expect to win
Combined 0-10 from deep for both teams too

Bakken miss 2 free throws, get the offensive rebound and then fouled on a 3 point shot
Is there a vomit emoji on here? If not can we get one

Not a great game, Bakken seemed to get a bit of rhythm in the third. Lions deficiencies at this level clear for all to see.

Although the stats don’t really support it, it certainly felt like this game fell apart for Lions in Q3.
I’m a little surprised Vince only really utilised 6 players in a very deep, very good, squad. Surely they can’t all have been carrying some kind of injuries?!
And what exactly happened with Reese? He appeared to walk out of the arena with only 4 fouls forcing Robinson to make a, what looked like, unexpected entrance into the game with a few minutes remaining.
As I said earlier, Lions need something exceptionally impressive to get to the quarter finals now… I’ve not done the maths but I think it’s something like needing to win all 3 of their remaining games, winning my some considerable margins, and needing other teams in the group to loose.

i just assumed he fell foul of the Technical/Unsportsmanlike foul rule - as one of the refs did seem to point the hall door out to him asking him to leave. with no commentary and not fully concentrating on the game not sure what prior calls were but did get impression they called his final one as a U.

Quite possible, as you say, that's the problem when there's no commentary. Thanks to the onscreen graphics I know he got an unsportsmanlike foul earlier in the game, maybe he got another and that's why he walked out.

What can be done to improve the fortunes of our teams in Europe?

What can be done to improve the fortunes of our teams in Europe? Good question. But lets not lose sight on the fact that getting to the second round (essentially the top 16 teams in a 32 team competition) in their first season shouldn't be considered a failure either. But yes, what can be done to get Lions, or any British team, to at least the quarter finals of the FIBA Europe Cup next year? I hate to say it, but maybe a new coach? I say that with a lot of respect for Vince. And I certainly wouldn't want him to leave the organisation, there needs to be a role for someone with his almost unrivalled experience and knowledge of British basketball within the London Lions... I'm just not sure head coach is the one.

Given the players on his roster I think they ought to be dominating the BBL - they have had some success but if those players were under Rob Paternostro's direction I think we'd see a London powerhouse which would be capable of a clean sweep of silverware.

Agreed. Lions budget is reportedly 2 or 3 times more than the next closest BBL team, and their performance should reflect that. Don't get me wrong, I still think they are one of the top 3 teams in the BBL this season... but they should be unquestionably the top team. And so I'm left thinking the coaching team aren't getting what they should out of them, in both the BBL and Europe. So that's what I'd change. I actually said on here (well, the other place) when the new GM was announced that personally I would have moved Vince into the GM role and instead invested that money on recruiting a new head coach. That would have been better all round in my opinion.

I know that all teams are suffering with covid related problems but I do think this run of losses for the Lions is extremely difficult to be overly critical of, their schedule has been absolutely ridiculous and I have said it before but the BBL need to do a better job of accommodating it because everyone should be behind what they’re doing in Europe

The run of 3 home Euro games in a row starts tomorrow, Lions aren’t going to qualify but hopefully they can get at least one win
On a separate note I’m sure anyone who plans on going already has their tickets but just in case there is someone selling a ticket for all 3 games for 25 quid on ticketmaster, just noticed it and thought it worth mentioning

Awful start, turning it over and not rebounding, luckily Bshcesehir started badly or this could be ugly already

It's looking pretty ugly already, 24-38 at the half

Much better so far from the Lions, at least making it interesting
