Hi guys I wanted to get your opinions on what you think are the hottest BBL rivalries right now in the League.
For me I would say 3 that standout are...
-Eagles vs Rider (No Brainer on this one)
-Lions vs Patriots
-Nix vs Gladiators
I wondered if anyone would say differently or have any other ones they'd like to throw into the mix?

Nix v Giants goes back a long way I think.

The nearest BBL gets to local derbies are Nix v Giants, Flyers v Patriots, Eagles v Sharks/Gladiators and Scorchers v Lions, but that doesn't mean the greatest rivalries. Then there was Riders v Storm, Towers v Leopards, Eagles v Bears (OK not local but always great to get one over on Nick Nurse !)etc.
Having said that Riders games at the VMA are certainly the first to go in my diary each season these days.

The Nix/ Giants is a longstanding one. Jets used to really enjoy the short lived one with Mersey Tigers a while ago. The Nix/Rocks/ Caledonian one wasn't really one until we lost that final and it was featured so much in that documentary. The hurt still lingers on.

It was always Bears and Thames Valley Tigers back in the day. The Teddy bears v the Pussy cats as each set of fans would call the opponent. 🤣
Eagles not so much, as they were just coming good around the time we went kaput. But I do recall the quarter final at Coventry in, must have been 2003 maybe. A couple weeks earlier Jeremy Hyatt had been awarded and made, a free throw with NO TIME left on the clock (yep) to win the game and gave a big mocking salute to the fans as he left the court. So wasn't it great when Rodger Farringdon tipped in a game winner to send Jeremy and his mates home for the summer, complete with him catching sight of my salute, just like his one, as he slumped off the floor. 🤣🤣🤣 Fantastic stuff, miss those days!

The Nix/Rocks/ Caledonian one wasn't really one until we lost that final and it was featured so much in that documentary. The hurt still lingers on. I know they have the South West Derby (Plymouth/Bristol) and North West Derby (Cheshire/Manchester). But do these games have the same spice of an intensive rivalry? I remember the when we had a North East Derby with the short lived Durham Wildcats about 7 or 8 seasons ago. But those games felt more like a friendly then a derby as we usually dominated Durham and supported them as well wishing them success in all other games not against us. To me what makes a good rivalry though is when you really hate losing to a team. Like fair enough I think alot of fans hate losing any game let's be honest. But when it's Eagles vs Riders and we lose to Leicester. It definately does sting a little more then a loss to other teams. From listening to the Drew and Jay Podcast the other day and listening to what Marriot was saying about more franchises being needed. I 100% agree with that but of their was more franchises locally it would be cool to see more Derby's within a short distance of each other.
