A double good night for Caledonia, their WBBL team won as well at home to Benfica 73 - 52 in the Womens Eurocup. What a night, and what a way to make a statement at a club. We really need to get more people along to watch wonen's basketball. Small crowd at Playsport tonight, but they were all entertained.

Well I do not think many people would have expected that result. Great win for Caledonia against the defending champions.
66- 63 against Anwil Wloclawek
Shame the You Tube coverage was so poor buffering all the time..

Completely forgot this game was even on. Bit sad really how little attention the whole thing is getting on here.
Didn't read a huge amount into the win in Romania but this really does seem like a noteworthy result. Bilbao still look firm favourites to top the group, and only the winners are guaranteed to advance, but Caledonia are definitely in with a shot at grabbing second now. Pretty good chance it will come down to point difference.
Great to see a relatively normal BBL side beat a team of this stature in a competitive game. It gives genuine hope to the rest of us in a way that what Lions are doing right now simply doesn't.

Still recovering from last night, and we go again tonight for the women's game against Basket Namur Capitale.
This is the game video from last night - I understand that the live stream was quite laggy, but this version seems to work fine.

quite laggy is being polite - assume the fiba channel couldn't cope with what it showed as 4.2k people viewing this game live. Wasn't just in the arena the Polish fans turned up in numbers!
Was still watchable enough to follow along - was surprised how long it took the visitors to work out what was acceptable to the officials. So many offensive fouls by then in first half, but they seemed to adjust better in 2nd half Gladiators defence was in most of game great, just a few struggles on the low post cuts at times leaving a big man to dominate or force a foul - but despite being short handed they worked their way out of these personal foul issues. Fraser Malcolm is normally called out for his off the bench 3pt contribution - last night he needs recognition of the defence he brought off the bench to the game. I thought a big factor in the result as helped slow Anwil at key points in the game.
Did miss no commentator - at end of the game Gladiators went to line for a single shot - was that a T on the coach, a player or the bench when the time out was called by the visitors. Other than that followed most of the other calls ok without commentary help.
back to the feed - at least it didn't decide to throw in adverts in the final seconds and leave you guessing till they cut back to the game if a basket was scored or not as happened in the London/Paris broadcast. Came back to see teams getting ready for 2nd OT so knew Paris had not scored but no idea if missed shot or great London D.

Would class it as a successful first Euro trip for Gladiators. Great to see another British team holding their own in Europe. I feel this competition is where they should try again next season. A lot of room for higher quality recruitment in terms of Roster, and now with euro experience they should be able to attract some better players. Lets hope Gareth has gained some trust and the budget also increases.

I forgot just how short the 'regular season' was in the FIBA Europe Cup, can't believe it's over already. Caledonia finishing the regular season 3-3 on their first attempt is still a notable achievement. Looking at their group, Anwil Wloclawek finished above them with 3-3 too, so Caledonia came very close to progressing to the 'second round' of the season. I agree another shot at the Europe Cup would be good for them next season.
Personally I see Caledonia as an indication of where a naturally good BBL team (i.e not an exception, like London) sits in Europe. For reference, London finished 1-5 back in 2020/21.

Agree with the above. A very exciting time for Caledonia and experience in Europe is only going to benefit Murray & Co. For clarification though, London finished 1-5 in the second round of the Europe Cup, they were 5-1 in the first round.

In my defensive I've watched a lot of basketball since then.

made it to the amphitheatre on EK for a game for the first time last night - impressed: atmosphere in arena, feeling of close to the action, the additional facilities - all a step up on the old place and the ones before that.
As to the game - with two 7ft 1" starters in the Bilbao side, the normally decent sized Glas looked small. However they played big in the opening spell and kept the visitors out. Unfortunately the offence was struggling and we were left wondering when someone other than Palyza would find their range. Keeping it tight seemd the best way for an upset and a single digit HT deficit left some hope.
In 2nd half when got with 4 hope remained - however the visitors showed they had another gear and it was fascinating to watch their higher defensive intensity that basically suffocated Gladiators and then helped them to easy scores at the other end.
Obviously we all hoped for an upset win - but with the squad the visitors had, it was an uphill battle and not to be. Glad I was able to make this one though as made a refreshing change from watching two BBL squads facing up.
Never looked at the team lists till today, so didnt realise Bilbau had a player listed as ENG nationality - Sacha KILLEYA-JONES

Have been surprised London have not signed him (Maybe they have tried). Has played for the GB national teams a few times. Congrats to Glads on a positive Europecup experience.
