Good win for Caledonia although the stat that stood our for me was the crowd numbers at 400. A considerably huge drop compared to the 1600 they had last week for the Sky game. A bit of a worry if it's only their 2nd game at the new arena.

Perhaps it being on a Thursday isn't the best idea? Weekends will surely get bigger crowds most of the time.

A bit of a worry if it's only their 2nd game at the new arena. dont pay attention to the number on livestats - they have always been fantasy numbers. saw a friend who was there when asked what the crowd was like - he had double that number - yes that's still half of last week but they are for these crazy day/time combos going to have to act like they are a new start (which in EK they are) and build and encourage a local fan base. IMHO if they don't keep building a local EK based fan base then these tips like 7.45pm on a Thursday night will struggle to reach even half capacity as tonight showed. i'm 35 miles from both Glasgow city centre and East Kilbride Playsport Tonight we were at the theatre in the city centre 7.30pm start and 45min after show finished we were home so we are not averse to midweek night but as a occasional spectator at BBL matches i will pick a weekend game over a midweek one. With the act at the theatre its one date so you do the midweek trip. Also any families down our way who went to weekend basketball at emirates with school age kids (and a decent number did last season) are going to struggle with 7.45pm tip on a Thursday in EK as you will not be getting home till after 11pm with school the next day. The first weekend games are going to be the ones that say how well EK is going. I hope it goes really well.

Scotland also had a big football game last night that took away from the crowd

Basketball crowds are so heavily family orientated that midweek evening basketball is never going to do well in UK
One of the reasons that it's hard to make European basketball financially viable over here

For a hired venue and semi pro players, yes European basketball can't be financially viable.

Travel costs and costs accommodating visiting teams also very expensive Especially in terms of British Basketball income

Do teams pay the accommodation costs for visiting teams? I'd have thought when travelling you pay for your own team? As for players, surely they don't incur any cost to themselves?

I think it’s a FIBA rule that the home team pay for their opponents (5 star) accommodation……..and also for flying in the officials.

Well Eagles have a sponsor that is a hotel and Gladiators owners own a hotel - so they are both of to a good start on controlling those costs if that is a requirement to provide for the visiting team.

Yes you have to assume there is a contra deal going on there with the hotel paying with hotel rooms in return for sponsorship benefits Not seen any of the BBL clubs sponsored by airlines yet though!

That's what I had read before Based on the home team having the opportunity to negotiate deals in bulk with a local hotel etc

Ah ok well you learn something new every day! Surely it doesn't have to be 5 star hotels though?! Most city's are lucky to even have one!
