New article from Broadcast Sport with a little more insight into the BBL's in-house production efforts and other things... www.broadcastnow.co.uk/production/behind-the-scenes-of-the-british-basketball-leagues-transformation/5186473.articleMost interesting for me was this bit: "Now that this production team is in place for the British Basketball League, it wants to offer it to other sports. Garnes explained, “We are putting in the foundation blocks for a production company, so anyone can come to us and say, ‘we want you to produce our sport."
Are they a basketball league or a television production company?! I'm all for being ambitious but I think they're getting ahead of themselves with comments like this. Also, it's interesting that they name the likes of The Hundred and Formula E as who they aspire to, two relatively new sporting organisations who have become recognised leaders in just a few years. Anything else of interest anyone want to highlight?

I’m a huge Formula e fan but does anyone else even know it exists?
Even the ones that do don’t take it seriously.
I wonder what point was trying to be made there?

Well if they're looking for more to do, how about doing the commentary etc for ENBL?

I'm a huge fan of Formula E too, and I don't think we're alone... www.broadcastnow.co.uk/production/formula-e-becomes-the-worlds-fourth-largest-motorsport/5186502.articleIn the world of motorsport unless you're Formula 1 you're a minority, but Formula E's worldwide fanbase has grown and grown over it's 9 years in existence so I can certainly see why the BBL might aspire to be like it. Even in the UK it now has every race live on Eurosport, Discovery+ and Channel 4 Sports YouTube channel, with out about half of the seasons races live on actual Channel 4 itself (and delayed highlights for the remaining races). Personally I'd be really happy to see the BBL with the quality and reach of coverage Formula E has achieved in just a few years.

Well if they're looking for more to do, how about doing the commentary etc for ENBL? Unless the ENBL asked them to, why would they? Why would they support a rival league, especially at a finical cost to them. I believe the way ENBL coverage currently works is that the host team has a responsibility to provide coverage (of an agreed quality), without commentary, for wider distribution. I think it's the same rule for the FIBA Europe Cup. That's a completely different situation to Euroleague and EuroCup (and I think FIBA Champions League) where the coverage is produced centrally by the league. All Euroleague and EuroCup coverage is produced by IMG out of Stockley Park (West London) and then distributed around the world. All the host teams have to do is provide access to their arena.

I wasn't suggesting they should do it for free. Are they a rival league? It's a mid week league. Having 4 teams playing in Europe is a good look for the BBL.

In which case if the ENBL asked the BBL to do it I suspect it's exactly the sort of thing they're interested in. Maybe me calling it a rival league is a bit strong, but I have found it interesting that this season the BBL hasn't acknowledged a single BBL teams European efforts on it's website or social media platforms.

I think you were right the first time. I don't think like a wannabe US sports mogul, but they are direct rivals. The advert for ENBL says something like "don't stay up till 3am watching the NBA. Watch your local basketball team in our exciting new league." It's not too different to 777 Partners saying they want the BBL to be the second biggest basketball league in the world. As ridiculous as that might sound to us they are both trying to create a professional league, and to do that they both need the same teams. They can coexist for now but there will come a time when there can only be one.

thats nonsense the premier league and the europa league aren't rivals. The BCL is more like the equivalent of the Europa League. Euroleague and EuroCup are the equivalent of the European Super League if that was allowed to happen. The FIBA Europe Cup is like the UEFA Conference League. There is no equivalent of ENBL in football.
