Hey there
Is there any news on whether sky will be extending there rights deal for another year or a new TV provider coming in? TNT/DAZN?)

As it stands, the NBA is currently without a UK television deal.
The previous Sky deal was a 1 year extension that expired at the end of last season. Interestingly NBA.com no longer directs to Sky Sports' website as it has for the last few years, so that would suggest there might be a change of broadcaster coming.
Some history... after BT Sport dropped the NBA in 2018, Sky's 4 year deal was announced just a day before the season started. As said, last year was a 1 year extension, announced early on September 28th.
So there's a precedence for this being done last minute. I'll guess that TNT Sports might be the frontrunner if Sky are no longer interested. Or maybe DAZN are looking to do something similar to what's it's done with the NFL (becoming the home of NBA League pass in the UK, as it has with NFL Game Pass), with traditional television converge still available elsewhere. Regardless, I suspect the NBA are looking to include some FTA coverage too - maybe the BBC again, or Channel 5?
Basically, watch this space, we'll know very soon!

Great thanks, yes it wouldn’t surprise me if DAZN did Something similar like NFL GP although I hope not as that has not been brilliant with them versus standalone previously!
Hopefully we get FTA & Paid (Id prefer TNT as I only have Now TV) not sure ill pay for league pass this year, it annoyed me that they used to show the score on the short highlights even if you had scores turned off (I told them a a bunch of times on Twitter and they just ignored me!)

Loads of sports post highlights videos and include the result in the thumbnail image. I did notice Sky might have taken some notice... they no longer include the final score in the thumbnail on their Premier League highlights clips via Sky Q this season. But they do still do it on the same clips via their YouTube channel. Back to basketball, to give some credit, the Euroleague don't do it with their Euroleague and EuroCup short highlight clips on YouTube. And neither to the BBL to be fair.

Ive seen on the digital Spy forums someone saying that TNT could get the NBA UK TV rights this season from SKY, Id be quite happy with that if it is true they did a decent job last time I thought, could also link up and drive the NBA to bring back a london game at the O2 as they covered that well when they had it last time, they on demand content for NBA was better too, anyone heard anything…?

Much preferred BTs coverage over Sky, I'd far rather just have the full American feed streamed over than what Sky tried to do by chopping in their own UK studio (I have no interest in a bored looking Ovie Soko stating the bleeding obvious over and over) although Mo Mooncey is very entertaining. I'm sure the old BT coverage also only had adverts between quarters and not at every single timeout, although I could be wrong.

Yeah I don't think the NBA needs UK studio analysis, although we don't usually get the American ones either, even on League Pass they don't usually share that, you just get to watch the halftime entertainment from inside the arena and then a few stupid features of players telling us their favourite donut flavour or something. But generally, the people watching NBA (especially live) will be real fans who already know what they're looking at, so not really necessary to have studio analysis unless its the real thing from the States. Anyway, I'd still recommend League Pass over any channel, especially if you'd be paying especially for the basketball. £73 with a Singaporean VPN this year remember!

As a SKY sports subscriber this is terrible news. I think I will be looking at getting League Pass for the first time as its cheaper than the TNT packages. Good that it is accessible via at least 2 platforms now though. It is a shame the NBA do not see the value in getting a handful of live games plus a weekly highlight show on free to air as well. A lot of people on this forum will have got into basketball due to the limited coverage that was available via the BBC,ITV,C4 at one time or the other....

Speaking as a NBA/EuroLeague subscriber, it's a way better deal to do it this way. I scrapped my Sky/BT Sports bundle and can now watch whatever game I want to, rather than what Sky dictate to us. For less money too, win/win for my situation. I appreciate others may watch other sports, but I don't have time for that!

I'm the same, although I happen to get TNT sports as part of my package at no extra cost, but I don't really watch it (especially since they dropped PTI and Around the Horn, much to my annoyance!) I've been League Pass for about 10 years now, and the best bit is you don't have to watch the full game if you haven't got time. Various highlight packages on offer and sometimes you just want to see how a particular match finishes if it was very dramatic, so you can do that too. I love the start of the season, I dip in and watch a bit of every team to see how they look from the outset but obviously can only do that by watching highlights, along with 1 or 2 games in full.

As I said earlier in this thread, I had suspicions the NBA was moving to TNT Sports in the UK. I agree with everything you've said. I haven't seriously followed the NBA for many years now, but as a Sky subscriber it was nice to have access to it and watch the occasional game. I get all the Euro Cup coverage I need from EuroleagueTV, so don't and won't be subscribing to TNT Sports. I've just got back from holiday so apologies if I've already missed something, but I'll be surprised if there's not more news from the NBA regarding UK coverage in the coming months. Last season they started to experiment with some free to air coverage on the BBC, and they'd be mad not to build or at least continue that. You only have to look at what the NFL have achieved in the UK with their mix of free to air and subscription coverage over the past few years, it's frankly baffling the NBA haven't done something similar (until the end of least season). So is suspect some free to air coverage will be announced, but maybe not until later in the season. If not, shame on the NBA.
