Hi I got the BBL newsletter where they had a competition going to win £310 worth of prizes which looked like tickets to a final and NBA 2k24 if your complete a survey.
I completed it and filled it out thinking it was a survey to do with the league. Although what started off as a generic basketball survey. Then ended up asking me questions about my phone provider, household income and other random marketing like questions.
I dont know if it is just me or if anyone else who did it found it a little odd for them to be asking questions not related to ball. I wondered if anyone else felt the same?

I stopped doing it at that point. I'm not really sure I'm so desperate to win 2k24 as to tell the league all of that unrelated personal information.

anyone who has read some of the material circulating on the efforts to buy Everton will not be surprised at the survey. Some of the explanations on the investments in football teams was to get access to huge fanbases and contact lists and develop sell ons in areas nothing to do with football. ultimately making more from the cross selling than from match day attendance as you have a limit of say 50k in the stadium but many many more on the contact lists to market and sell to

As soon as they wanted my e-mail address, I ducked out.

I expect you'll start getting a lot of possibly unwanted stuff from all sorts of places.

I thought it was typical market research questions. Knowing things like your age, your income, number of children, etc helps brands understand their audience better. They'll use all this info to better target them and perhaps who else to target. I suspect some of this information might be used to attract certain companies to advertise in the YouTube coverage too. No one is being forced to complete the survey if they don't want to. But I didn't think it was anything outside the ordinary.
